Since we made about 90 kits, she figured it would be best for us to deliver them to an organization that assists those in need, and she found Foothill Unity Center. Foothill Unity Center is a multi-service agency that provides services to individuals and families in need. Founded in 1980 by Josephine Anderson, the center has become a source for food, health services, and crisis assistance to thousands of low-income families in the SGV. The place is clean and spacious and the staff were friendly and gracious for our donation. It felt nice to do something good for others and give back to the community. The security guard on duty was an absolute doll - polite, friendly, and respectful. He made our day as much as we made his. They accept donations of any kind and you can drop off during business hours 8 am - 4:30 pm Mon - Fri. You have to be sure you call them back when they call to confirm if you are going. Last time I changed my number I forgot to give it to them. So when I went for my appt they told me they gave it away because I never called them back. They were able to give me a voucher for a haircut at a barbershop. After I got my haircut I was able to get some groceries without waiting in line. They give you a good amount of food. We even got eggs.

This is a great place to come volunteer if you're in the Pasadena area. It's located near the…read moreintersection of Pasadena Ave & California Blvd. Parking can be a little difficult since it's all street parking, but if they allow you to park in their driveway, then that's a win for you. My team dedicated a whole morning to cook a meal for the young patients here and their mothers. We decided to go with a Mexican meal because most of the families were Hispanic. We cooked a variety of enchiladas, with sides of rice and beans. And for dessert was a healthy fruit salad that we chopped up by ourselves. They provided us with the kitchen space and tools to do the cooking. Majority of the cooking tools were worn out, so next time I definitely want to donate some new ones to them. There was a kitchen in the front house and a back house, but both were very small. I suggest having a maximum of 6 people in each kitchen at a time, or it will get a little compact and chaotic. We had to take turns because we had a total of 25 people. During our downtime, we got to enjoy the property and interact with the families. I love what the Ronald McDonald House is doing for these families. It brings me absolute joy to volunteer and provide any aid that I can to our community. Our workplace is making this a once a month activity, but I definitely see myself coming back more often than that.

They need money, time, efforts or anything else you can give to help. The house shelters families whose kids are sick and receiving treatment at the hospital across the street. It helps families be near their children as they have operations, skin grafts, appendages mended, or cancer treated. Motel, hotels and inns within the area are neither cheap or as close. I started with Delhaven Community Center, in the early 80's when I was about six years old…read more Delhaven, along with the Seal family; supported by loving volunteers, quite honestly saved my life. The programs and staff (family) provided me a safe environment, where I was loved and taught values; even when my personal and emotional issues no doubt tested their limits. The level of dedication and personal investment is frankly beyond words or belief... It is very important to note that Delhaven started as an after school activity center; if I recall on TUES & THURS; and has since grown to include programs too numerous to list. In fact, I was one of the original founding members of their "Voyager's Club"; focused on children and families that had special behavioral issues/troubles at home. Most of Delhavens programs are themed on the idea of by working together, supported by volunteers, giving life-long opportunities and experiences to persons of all ages... I like to say thanks to the many people involved in supporting the center; and shaping it over the years... (2017 marks their 45th Anniversary!)

I love Girl Scouts, and I love this council. Everyone is so awesome and helpful here…read more I hear now and then about people who have a hard time finding troops and here are some tips. My suggestion is going directly to your daughter's school and asking someone in the office if there is a contact person for the school and scouting. If that isn't a help, talk to your daughter's teacher, he or she may know who the girls who scout are in the class room. Talk to the parents about their leader, they might be able to help you figure it out. Even if the troop is "full" if they know you are willing to register and help out they might be more open to adding more girls. For the benefit of the girls they attempt to match girls who are at the same levels so they can grow together. It's also easier for leaders, especially if they are new! If you're having a problem getting your daughter into a troop consider leading. You can work together with parents and all take turns,remember every parent needs to register as well as complete a background check. On that note Dads are also welcomed to be co leaders and I have met some amazing dad's involved with Girl Scouts. Please consider volunteering you will have so much fun, it's so worthwhile and families that scout together will be pleased to find themselves closer having something so worthwhile to reconnect with.
