We've used Sheridan Brothers in the past and were very pleased. Not this time. Some of our items were damaged, and when I reached out to the owner and our salesperson about compensation, I got no response. I sent more than one email, and no response. Did not put boxes in the right rooms, and didn't treat my items / boxes with care. put heavy boxes on top of light boxes, etc. Overall made a stressful day far worse. It was such a bad experience, I blocked out the other bad things they did that day. It's taken me so long to even bring myself to write this review. I moved in the spring. It's been a year since we have moved but we can't stop talking about how well this company did for us. The guys who did our moving were very concerned about the protection of all our properties. Everything was wrapped and packed and protected. When unpacking the truck they checked every box and placed it in just the right spot. When done we thought we would have a pile of boxes to put away in our basement, but they were already put away. If you are moving you need this company! read more

Downside: Other crew members were very negative, popping off about how much this job "sucked." It made the whole experience a downer. Because of reputation and recommended by St Johns community, we used Sheridan Brothers to move my parents from their home into an independent living apartment. The two guys were on time, asked questions and were pleasant. We had asked to move two area rugs into the garage of the home as we were not bringing to apartment. At the apartment after moving everything in, one of the crew said we made a mistake and brought the area rugs to apartment when you wanted them in garage. He said because it was their error, he offered to get rid of them or take them back to house. I said ok, no problem, take them back to house. In the final hour of our move they were requested to do another move so they were anxious to leave. We were over our time and price quoted. I understood that and paid the new quote. We were very pleased with how it all went. But then, we get back to the house and no area rugs were returned. After speaking to whoever answers the phone, they said they would look into it and never called me back. A few weeks later I call and speak to a man. He emailed me back and claimed that I said to get rid of the rugs. We work with a social worker who works for Lifespan who witnessed the conversation about taking rugs back to house. We both have contacted Sheridan via email since I was told that I said get rid of the rugs. and not heard back regarding a resolution. Very disappointing. read more

They damaged the ceiling in the house we bought. They claimed they would fix it. It took a lot of calling to get anything done. After 3 visits over 2 months the hole was patched however the patch was a different color from the ceiling. Further follow up with them resulted in a nasty response saying they patched the hole they are done. I can't understand why they would want potential customers to know if they do damage that they will not return it to what it was before the damage. read more

We were disappointed with the delivery end of the move. Several of our items were badly damaged in the move, and the fault was unquestionably the company's.We bought the insurance, and frankly, the loss was so clearly the fault of the mover they should have paid without insurance. I have been corresponding with a claims person for over a month. As far as I can tell her job is to never pay any claim. I will probably file complaints at both ends with the BBB, but don't expect any satisfaction This company represents itself of one only two decent long distance movers in the area. My advice is to try the other one I have given up getting satisfaction. My advice is to use a mover associated with a different van I mine. In the end, the claims person compared a very expensive mid century modern table to a piece of junk offered on line by a maximum cheapo furniture retailer. I got no satisfaction. In particular, they moved a very large, heavy, marble table from my house to my new 2nd floor apartment which was a challenge; I didn't know if it was possible but they did it!! Lots of pros and cons for this one. David came to our home and went through the house making lots of notes. He sent us a quote with a range of about $2000. The final bill ended up being a little less, so that is a plus. when the packers came, they worked efficiently the first day but with a few inconsistencies. For instance, they removed all the glass from the curio cabinet but left it all in the china cabinet. They also packed with a twisted sense of humor. My stand mixer was packed in one box, but after unpacking all the kitchen boxes we have found so far, no bowl or beaters have been found. Also, many boxes were so incredibly heavy! They must surely fail OCSHA standards. we could not move many of the boxes ourselves. The packers were surprised by the amount of stuff there was to pack; poor communication between the person doing the quote and the actual workers? The biggest issues were with the actual moving crew. There was a lot of complaining about the amount of stuff to be moved. we had a very large house and 35 years of stuff!. there was grumbling and complaining about how often they had to climb the stairs and how many boxes there were. Also the amount of furniture. But the biggest surprise of all was at the end of the move when the leader presented me with the bill. I had made arrangements to pay the bill at the end of the month at the office. the leader was not aware of the arrangement so he called the office to confirm. all checked out, no problem there. the surprise came when we went to pay at the office, the bill was $2000+ LESS than the bill presented to me by the mover! what was that all about! read more

I had never hired movers before and this was an awful experience. The one mover was stoned, the other kept taking smoke breaks. They gouged a hole in the wall and now there's plaster coating the corner of my couch. Then when I called they were confrontational and argumentative as opposed to just taking a couple hundred bucks off of the cost of the move. Someone commented from the company. I had actually spoken with them before posting a negative review to give them a chance to show me excellent customer service. Sadly I'm still unable to recommend them. We had already handed in our keys and our perilous landlord was difficult, I just wanted them to take some off of my bill but they wouldn't do it. read more

This was my first time using movers, and I was a bit disappointed. While most of the guys were very nice, they complained several times that we had packed our things into boxes that were "too small" and there were too many of them. I understand that for movers who can pick up big, heavy boxes with ease, having many small boxes is less convenient than fewer big ones. But, I am disabled and couldn't physically handle the bigger boxes during packing. If this is such an issue, it may be a good idea to offer a set of guidelines or suggestions to customers; this being my first time using movers, I was actually worried that the few big boxes I did use were too big/heavy and had no idea that small boxes would be a problem. In addition, the original crew arrived late citing an "issue with the truck," which was not a problem and totally understandable. However, they apparently chose to bring a smaller truck than originally planned, then appeared very frustrated that they wouldn't be able to fit all of our items in the smaller truck, and insinuated it was our/my fault for having too much or not correctly listing the inventory of items to move (which I did). I have also been very upset to find that most of my durable plastic totes/bins now have cracked and broken lids. Yet again, this is understandable but disappointing. Overall I'm glad I used a moving company and I'm sure things could have gone much worse than they did, so I'm thankful that the crew made it happen in the end. It just would have been nice to have gotten thorough the day without feeling like I was being blamed for having done something wrong. I would at least consider a different company in the future before I used this one again. read more

We ended up calling Sheridan Brothers after our other moving company had rude employees. They we're able to move my roommate on the day she needed. Movers were very personable and friendly. They asked when they had questions, they asked, and overall they were professional and helpful. I will be calling them next time I move for sure. read more

Worst company ever!! Moved in march 2018, there was a lost box. Manager jennifer told me to file a insurance claim. so I did. After then, she never responds to any of my e-mails, voice messages, or my phone calls. After about 2 weeks later, another guy at the office finally answered my call, said the claim has been processed so just wait. That was back in April and today is ! July 5th!! Hahaha I called in today to check the status of the claim since it has been too long. they said they cant find my claim. It is Thursday today and told me to wait until the next Monday to track it down cuz they are very busy. So irresponsible. I will update their response. read more

These young men moved us out of our home of twenty-eight years without an incident of breakage or loss. We had approximately 150 boxes and furniture pieces large and small. When we moved out of our temporary residence in August, we checked with them to move us to our newly built townhouse. Unfortunately we checked in to reserve a time that turned out to be a bit too late to move us as they were already booked. When you find the right mover, or contractor etc ....plan ahead as far as you can so you don't have to use a less qualified company. A lesson that's hard to learn at any time in life. read more

This was my first experience with professional movers and I don't think I can ever go back to not using them for all future moves! I submitted a request for a quote online. I received a response the next day with prices and details (at the time of writing this, it was $120/hr for a weekend move with 2 movers). They called me 2 days before the move date to confirm all details. On the day of, the movers arrived 15 mins early! Rob and Cisco were professional, friendly, prompt, and frankly, total beasts at moving everything. I was speechless at how fast and careful they were. I hope I can request them for my next move. Used them 6 months ago and the crew they sent was awful. They spent the entire time complaining about the fact that they had to move stuff, and making fun of my home and things. Also jammed my scooter into a snow blower, in the garage, putting a huge gouges into it. I moved again this week and tried to use them again because I didn't think it was fair to judge a whole company on two employees. I asked for a different crew and the two guys who came out were great. Friendly, careful, efficient. They only broke the arm on one chair. My problem this time? I was quoted $360. The 3 hour minimum. I also have an email quoting $360. They were done in 1 1/2 hours and I was charged $405. When I called to ask why it was more than I was quoted both on the phone and in email, because I obviously didn't go over in time, I only used 1 1/2 hours of the 3 I paid for, I was told that the weekend price was more and they quoted it incorrectly. BOTH on the phone AND in email?!? That seems awfully shady. They literally admitted they quoted me one price but just charged me another price anyways. That means a quote means absolutely nothing then, and they can just charge you whatever they want to. I wish I had not given them a second chance and just learned from my mistake in hiring them the FIRST time! read more

Mike the owner told me he wasn't concerned about my mothers move. Disgustingly rude!! They are thieves at best! I would NEVER deal with this company. They are not professional...don't take responsibility for their workers and hung up on me when I asked what happened...things were broken, missing and packed like a 2 yr old packed them. Nothing was packed together...boxes were gone through in storage and thrown in Sheridan brothers boxes. These people are horrible. The OWNER Mike Sheridan hung up on me because he didn't want to explain what happened. They don't even deserve one star. What owner hangs up on a customer when they are asked what happened??? Rent a pod and pay someone to pack it...that way no one can steal and damage your things. Horrible horrible company. We choose Sheridan brothers to move our 3 bedroom house based on glowing recommendations from numerous friends and family. It was a terrible experience. The movers arrived late and were INCREDIBLY slow. Mind you, my husband and I had moved all our boxes and kids toys the day prior so all that was left for the moving company was our large furniture. It took them ELEVEN hours to load and unload; I was quoted 6-8 hours. We moved 19 miles. The crew sauntered to the truck, my 6 year old walked faster and carried heavier items the day before. In addition, they chose to move our large bedroom dressers with our drawers intact. But they flipped the dressers upside down, so many clothing articles fell out when they moved them and were strewn down the hall and sidewalk. No explanation on why they would flip them. My children are young we had a swing set and basketball pole that we broke down into pieces. Those required a second trip. On the second trip back, the crew decided not to latch the truck door. During the drive to our new home, the truck door came open and the basketball pole and backboard flew out at oncoming traffic; causing a serious accident with a dump truck and mini van. The truck had to stop during this time to file a police report and I had to fight with management not to pay for the hours the crew was delayed. I made multiple attempts to call the management company, with no return call over the billing for this move. We're still working through reimbursement for damage to our furnishings. This was the first time I hired movers to move to a new house and my friend used/recommended Sheridan so I booked them, and I couldn't have been happier! Sheridan was so profession, kind, and quick to deal with - from getting a quote, to booking the day and time, to the actual moving day. I had a few items (a couch and a mattress) that I wasn't bringing to the new house with me so they even carried those out to the dumpster in my former apartment complex so I didn't have to worry about it. As frustrating as the moving process normally is, I was not stressed or concerned on the day of. All my furniture, boxes, and electronics were moved so quickly and with ease to the new house with no issues or scrapes. I will absolutely be using Sheridan again if I ever have to move and will recommend them to everyone! read more

Office staff was polite and efficient with getting an appointment set up. Dave came out on time and was courteous and professional. Gave us an estimate with options depending on how we wanted to do things. Office staff called the day before to confirm the appointment. Moving Day! Foreman called before they left the shop and the crew arrived on time. The 3 guys were all very professional, moved quickly. They laid down blankets on the floor at both places since it was wet outside. They were also careful and nothing was damaged. Blew my mind at how well they packed the truck. We certainly could not have used the space so efficiently if we did it on our own. Unloading was hassle-free. Basically just told them where to put the boxes and furniture. Very good experience. Based on some other reviews, I was very nervous to hire this company, especially since they charge by the hour (with a 3 HR minimum) for local moves. That said - I had a great experience. The move out and packing of the truck was done within 45 minutes. I did have all the boxes labeled, stacked and ready to go, and the furniture pulled out into the front room so that may have contributed to the expediency, but they were efficient regardless. I saw the truck, it was packed very well, with moving pads on all furniture. When it came to the move-in, they were great about being careful with fragile boxes and putting things in rooms according to their labels. About 50% of my boxes had to go in the attic (not air conditioned and up two flights of stairs), and they didn't complain once. While definitely less efficient than the move-out, they were still done in a little over two hours all in. I wasn't charged a penny over the initial quote since I was under the 3 HR minimum (fine with me, I'd rather overpay and be done quicker have the process drag on and on). I'd use them again for sure. One small issue - I had trouble getting some info on the front end - confirming how many men were coming, a time estimate based on the very thorough accounting of items to move. It took a couple of very direct emails to get the information that I needed, but in the end it worked out fine. read more

Had these folks help me move from my 1 br apt in the city to a 2 br in canandaigua. Every step of the process was smooth and pleasant. I had a good feeling about this company right from the get-go. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was professional and they put up with me changing my move-out date at least twice. The day before my move-out they actually called me up to let me know a slot had opened up in the early morning and that I could have it. This could not have been more awesome! The two young men they sent were professional and hardworking; they worked almost too fast! All of my belongings were in the condition they were in previously. I thought the price was reasonable. We asked David & Jennifer if a 2 day move could be separated so we could prep our current house for sale. When the great team of 6 guys with 2 large trucks arrived on a frigid snowy day, they started by prepping the house so they wouldn't make too much of a mess. Then they filled the 2 trucks in about 4 and a half hours. After a quick lunch break, They emptied the trucks of 150 boxes and several large pieces of furniture. These guys worked extremely hard in difficult conditions and remained great to deal with the whole time. Every time I turn around I find more damage with what this company has done. It has less than a year and they only followed through on one thing. This past weekend I discover 3 of 4 legs to my bed were not attached. The movers hid them under one of the drawers. I had to take most of the bed apart to fix it and purchase the parts that they did not leave behind. I have spent double the amount on replacing things than what I paid them. I now need to bring in a carpenter to fix my hand made large roll top desk. The list is endless. So many things were broken furniture chipped, mattress folded in half. This is long overdue! We worked with Sheridan Brothers on 7/15/16 when we moved from an apartment in Gates to a house in Ogden. Prior to the actual move I was really happy with the communication with the office staff. They immediately called me back with a quote when I requested one, which is more than I can say for other places I called. They were quoted to start at noon and they actually called at about 10am because they had finished early somewhere else and were able to start early with us. This was so appreciated because it gave us the whole rest of our Saturday to unpack. Two young men came to do the moving and I was so impressed with how quickly they worked..they even drove to my parent's house and picked up some extra furniture for me there. Between the two pick ups and unpacking at our house they only took about an hour and forty five minutes. After a nightmare with different local movers last year these guys were a breath of fresh air. They were careful with the furniture and with the walls of the home and apartment. The pricing was fair and straight forward. Most of all, they were polite and treated us with respect. Honestly other moving companies wanted to look at our place first, but I didn't have time for that. Sandy was "on spot" with the truck size, amount of time needed, and number of guys!!! She was extremely helpful and very friendly. I think I read of review where it was hard to reach someone in the office. That is a very false statement. I actually had several conversations over a two week span and always immediately spoke with someone. Our movers were John, Allan, and Roberto. First, I must say that they were VERY respectful!! Greeted us with their names and a hand shake (also ended the job with the same!!). It was a very snowy & windy day and that didn't stop them from getting the job done. I was freezing watching them go in and out of my house. They worked hard. They were lifting those boxes, couches, tables, etc., with care and I had zero damage. My realtor recommended Sheridan Brothers to move my daughter from one apartment to another. Office staff was very helpful in assessing my needs and confirmed in a timely manner. The three man team arrived on time and were very friendly and efficient. They were done within the timeframe promised and were very professional. I had an issue with what I thought were missing items and they did a great job working on that with me. In the end, the items were found in storage and never were part of the move. Heard about them from multiple local realtors. Used them today to move from a 3 bdr town home in W. Henrietta to a home pittsford. The office staff were great. This morning 3 guys showed up exactly on time. They packed every piece of furniture with care. We actually had quite a few pieces that needed to be disassembled and a few tight corners. All of my furniture was in perfect condition at the end and there was no damage to any of our hardwood floors or walls. They were very professional, and even got done early! NEVER!!!! I tried to schedule a move the lady on the phone told me that at this time they could not schedule me due to the move being out of their range and the size of the unit. The company is down the street from my unit and the items would have been delieverd to the 19 Ward by the airport. Never mind, I see their trucks in that area all the time, that was the reasoning for me calling. I figure that they were a good company to use. She than went on to say she put the move in for 5 room and I was not approved. I'm very comfused on how I was not approved for the move. What is this a credit card application? Worst possible experience. Showed up at my house with a truck that was too small and then had a second truck come pick up the rest of my things. Got to Florida and realized the first truck that was too small was delivering my things. This meant that they got to the wear house and unloaded, repacked, and disassembled most of my things causing them to be broken or have hardware missing. Of course the person that delivered my things didn't take them apart so he had no clue how to put them back together. Lots of damaged and missing parts. Water damage as truck leaks in back corner. They don't really seem to care as the general response is that we had full coverage insurance. read more

I have used this company twice before without any issues. However this last experience with them overshadowed any pleasant experience I previously had. Most people probably won't read long reviews so I will spare you of the details. I had an appointment this past Saturday between 12-2pm, only to have the movers show up at 9am the next day since their first job took them too long. The movers that actually showed up to my house were extremely hard working and amazing, but their work was unfortunately overshadowed by the company's inability to schedule or do proper estimates for moving jobs. I booked this appointment over a month in advance to be sure I would be moved out that day. This was COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Not to mention after explaining to the owner Mike what happened, he proceeded to say that it was our fault/problem and we were hung up on. I'm not sure how someone stays in business with that kind of customer service. If you want reliability, I would highly recommend looking elsewhere. read more
