Fabulous internet cafe in Ely. I spent time here one morning while my female cousins were getting massages at Pebble Spa and again later in the week when we all were doing laundry at Ely Speed Wash across the street. My first visit I enjoyed a house baked scone and the second visit I tried one of their breakfast burritos. Both were good choices, but if I had to repeat, I'd go with another scone. On their menu, they also offer quiche, muffins and a variety of danish. The coffee is self-serve once you order and they give you two regular and one decaf to choose from. If you add sugar to your coffee, they had the real thing, plus raw sugar and a rainbow of artificial sugars to choose from. I got a grin that the ice cream they offer was a small town company back home in Illinois. They serve, Prairie Farms. Which is based in, Carlinville, Illinois. It was nice to see that they support a farmer owned company. Front Porch does have a fabulous porch that almost wraps around the entire building. It is great for relaxing on a beautiful day. Pets are welcome with well behaved owners. Only thing that disappointed me was, I did not visit them on a Monday. Monday is the day, Seniors get a 10% discount and we all like to save. Staff was what you'd expect from a small town coffee shop, it was extremely friendly. Everyone knew each other, yet they made out-of-town folks feel welcomed as well. read more

This is a busy, touristy coffee shop on the main drag in Ely. Headed for the BWCA the crew I come up with has been stopping here for years. Small-ish shop with a big wraparound porch there's usually plenty of seating. The coffee here is good; fair trade organic variety. I've not had anything foofie, just plain coffee and a real good blueberry muffin. Visiting Ely? Definitely worth a stop. read more

Best place to get a cup of coffee or depth charge in Ely! Every time i am in town I stop here. I grab a depth charge and monster cookie. They have a large area to sit, kid friendly with tea sets for kids to play with or draw in the play area. They showcase local are and gifts. Have a great small menu of healthy coffee shop food. The coffee is great, hot and not bitter at all. For locals they hand individual mugs on the wall for re use. You need to experience it yourself but this is an original community meeting place with the right atmosphere and offering. read more

In town for a few days for hiking. I always love to try the small town coffee places. This one did not disappoint. Much busier the second day I stopped in but still efficient making a wonderful mocha. They had lavender syrup which I'm obsessed with. Love the large wrap around porch seating. However the true reason i always stop is a fantastic collection of bulk teas for purchase. Ely is charming and The Front Porch exceeded expectations. Everything you could want in a cafe. Fair Trade coffee in real mugs! And I had one of the quiche options. Very good. There are other hot options, wraps I think, and pastries and beautiful cakes. Also tea, gifts and cards, nice tables and the awesome front porch. They were even open before the posted time of 7 am. Good blend between the chocolate and the espresso. While the inside was a bit noisy, it's because there was a healthy bit of traffic going through. The porch seating was perfect. Stopped by for breakfast and had some great scones and muffins. The goodies are far better than what you get at most coffee shops: light, crumbly and not overly sweet. Also the quiche I had was pretty good, very eggy but nicely cooked and flavored, and they have a pretty big selection of teas. BF was happy with his espresso and that doesn't usually happen other than at Starbucks and in Italy. Service is good, wi-fi is free and the place is comfy. Best in class for independent coffee places Up North...have spent time chilling here each time I've been to Ely-and it's so nice to just chill and get away for an hour or two with a book and the awesome porch. Love the chicken wild rice soup and iced coffee...lots of desserts to choose from as well. They sell pb and J roll-ups or cheese melts for the kids-which was great to grab on the go. One word comes to mind. Adorable. But not adorable in that patronizing way that you tell your friends that their kids are the cuuuutest ever, but truly and totally adorable. Visited Front Porch Coffee and Tea on several occasions during our short visit to Ely and enjoyed myself each time. What's not to love about delicious baked goods, an array of coffees and teas, each one seemingly better than the next and cozy couches, nooks and crannies to enjoy said pastries and beverages in? A cappuccino from here was better than Starbucks - by far - and kept me going for a long drive home. Quick service. The ice cream selection was small - but I had no problem enjoying the delicious caramel cone. This is a wonderfully quaint coffee and tea shop. In cold weather you can sit by a fireplace. My husband and I are visiting from out of town and this coffee shop is a gem. There is outdoor seating on the porch where we sat with our dogs. I am a Starbucks fan and the Front Porch Coffee & Tea's beverages and their food items far outshine Starbucks' items. The staff is always professional, pleasant and very helpful. Jen waited on us yesterday and today. She was professional, pleasant, and patient while my sister and I placed our order. She patiently talked through options, with the goal of making sure our order was exactly what we wanted. They have non-dairy milk options which is wonderful. I enjoyed a turtle mocha latte with almond milk and a spinach/ dried tomato quiche, other family members enjoyed peach/apricot smoothies, a frozen latte, a bacon burrito and cheese/ham quiche. What a cozy place to hang out! Just what I expected after driving down the main drag in charming Ely. Homemade baked goods and friendly people. Latte's and quiche were good, although re-heated crusts are never the best the second time around. Still, a good choice to warm you up on a below zero day. Comfortable place with wi-fi in Ely. I was running low on Verizon data so this was the perfect place to grab a late lunch. And it was Senior Day (10% discount on Monday's) and... My boyfriend and I came in and each got a vanilla latte. They are obviously very proud of their coffee because the total was $12. I added soy milk to mine and both of us liked our coffees, but they were way overpriced. We later shared a bagel; it was good but nothing special. The ambience was great though and I'd still recommend the place to someone for that reason. read more

This is neat little local place. The coffee and pastries are comparable to Starbucks, but the interior is really quaint and unique. However, I'm going to have to give a low rating here due to the fact that they require you to make a new purchase after every thirty minutes of free internet. Bottom line: if you're just here for a cup of coffee or a snack, then I'd recommend this place. But if you need to study or do anything that requires a connection to the internet, you'd be much better served going somewhere else. read more

The coffee is good, the service is always friendly, and the selection of food is varied and delicious. The quinoa flakes with "the works" is a great breakfast choice, as is the quinoa cup. I have eaten more almond croissants here than I care to mention. read more
