I am very disappointed with the products and customer service experience at Sherlock's Carpet and Tile. We had laminate flooring installed in our home a few years ago, and we are now having issues with it warping and bubbling in certain areas. Kelly was assigned to help us , and it was a major letdown, everything was passed off as "water damage" even if the area in question was nowhere near a water source. Her explanation was that once there's water damage in one area that can impact the entire floor. No workable solutions were provided or attempts to actually help us. The "water damage" was also determined from a number of pictures that I, the customer, took. No one from Sherlock's or the manufacturer actually came out to look at anything. The flooring is supposedly covered under warranty for 20 years for most issues. It was a long drawn out process that resulted in nothing. Very poor business practices. I was told I could buy a new floor if I would like, like I would invest any more money after this treatment. I truly had hoped for more. read more

Please be advised of this company I am writing this with you, because I am receiving text messages from Mr. Marty Sherlock just about every other day at least once a week harassing me and asked me when I'm gonna make a payment. Yes!!! I am aware that I do owe a balance however, I do not think that is appropriate for Marty Sherlock to be contacting me via text on a regular basis . He even called my phone one time and ask me why did I post on Yelp !!!!!! I am currently in the hospital. I am very sick. I sent him pictures of me in a hospital. He does not care. I am 100% sure that he does not contact all of his customers. This is harassment!!!! and I am going to file a police report. The work was not even completed . I called and I spoke to Noreen and made a payment over the phone. I asked her who can I speak to in regards to Mr. Sherlock's behavior she said that I would have to speak to him. Therefore I am using this platform on Yelp to advise people not to ever work with this company they are inappropriate unprofessional. have no empathy for customers. He threatened to take me to court today if I did not make a payment . He has no compassion. For customers , I lost my mother I sent him a picture of the obituary. I am now currently in the hospital. I sent him a picture of me in the hospital. I got food poisoning, and a blood transfusion. Mr. Marty is so inconsiderate he lack compassion for his customers . The subcontractors that he hired left us all over my house. They broke my daughters bad. They left my house in a complete disarray. They did not pull back any other furniture. They left dust all over my garage from cutting wood . At this point, I should counter sue him for cleanup cost, and for the cost of replacement of my daughters bed Mr. Marty, I'm sure you're going to read this because the last time I posted on yelp you called my phone . If I could rate them 0 I would. Ordered a custom RUG - nothing crazy, just a rug. Was told no more than 2 weeks. 3 weeks passes - we have to call to find out status. We were told their binding machine was broke. They said they'd call us the next day with an update. A week later, we called again, we were told their spare one broke down and it was in the repair shop - but they'd call us back the next day with an estimated repair date. We call three days later - were told our rug was moved to the top of the pile to get bound. That was over a week ago. We called back last night, they told us they would call the next day with an update. We got our update call today - only to be told that they lost our rug, and they need to reorder it! Only offered to knock $100 off the price - but we had already paid in full for the rug. We ordered the rug on August 26th. Today is October 12th. Their lack of empathy and communication sickens me. I don't know how this company has been in business very long. When you run a business you COMMUNICATE. I should have never had to make 1 phone call. I should have been called at least every couple days with an update. DO NOT do business with this joke of a company. read more

Well, I hesitated to write this review, but now months later and am having trouble with my flooring. It's worth mentioning that when we received original quote for multiple rooms and flooring installation back in January, I was comfortable with the timeline and quote I received. The installation took days longer than originally quoted. At the end of the second workday, they removed a toilet in our basement, and left without putting back in. I had to put my daughter up in a hotel, because obviously you cannot occupy a space without a working toilet. They did all the cutting inside the house, leaving dust everywhere. Our televisions, laptops, stereo, etc were covered in dust without any warning or apology. When trying to contact Joe Sherlock during the installation, he's on vacation!! To add insult to injury, when the work is finished, the original quote I was given, was not honored and I was charged almost an additional $2,000. I was so disappointed with entire process. When I reached out to Joe, he basically made it about me, and tried to justify every single additional charge. Mind you, because he was on vacation, I had to wait weeks to hear from him. Now....months later, the flooring is buckling in the basement and Joe has not returned any of our calls to remedy this. Life is too short and there are too many honest reputable companies to work with. Don't waste your time. read more

We have just had the entire second floor of our house recapeted. We could not be happier with the final results nor the sales service that we received fromTom Ullsperger. The work was done in two phases which allowed me to paint two of the rooms and the Sherlock installers deserve high praise. They were on-time, effecient and cleaned everything at the end of the day. This included making small batches of the old carpet and padding for disposal. We did do a number of competitive price comparisons and they offered the best price for the entire job. This is our second purchase from them (the first was about 10 years ago) and when in the market in the future we will again return to Sherlock's Carpet and Tile. read more

I had Karndean vinyl flooring installed. I think the flooring itself was a good product (or maybe not!?), but installation was poor. After the planks were installed, there were gaps everywhere. Such an eyesore. Also, it started lifting at the edge (near the walls), for which the installer did come back and fixed. I used to have laminate flooring and I had no such issues. I've been wondering if it's because of the product, or the installation. I suspect the latter. I am redoing my bathroom now, and will need to buy tiles. But I'm not going back to Sherlock. read more

You may not want to waste your time with this company. We visited the store and were quickly greeted by a sales rep....that was the best thing that happened. Issue #1 - We decided on carpet and scheduled a measurement. We called the sales rep back asking that he bring some additional color samples only to find out that he didn't write down the brand and color....we had to go back to the store and reselect so he could write the info down. Issue #2 - The sales rep was 20 minutes late for the measurement, with no call. When he arrived he blamed traffic and a dead cell phone. Issue #3 - He promised the bid would be available by the end of the next day. No bid arrived, we called and he was out of the office. Issue #4 - The bid arrived two days later than promised and was illegible. We called, he was not available. We were told from someone at the store that he was having printer issues. After some back and forth, the estimate arrived. Issue #5 - After issues #1-4, we asked for the manager (who is also the owner) and were told he was out, but would call when he returned to the office. The reason for the call was to work with him directly to resolve our questions on the bid. Issue #6 - After a couple days with no call back, we called again for the manager, we were told he was out. We left another message requesting a call back. Several days have now passed with no call. This all took place through the sales process....just imagine what an awful company this would be if we had an installation issue or warranty request. read more

The level of customer service at Sherlock's was a complete disappointment. The sales reps are not interested in helping you when you enter the store, and appear to be annoyed by your very presence. We tried being patient and gave them the benefit of the doubt based on their past good reviews, as anyone can have a bad day from time to time, but this place has really gone down hill recently. Commitments made are not kept. Phone calls are not returned. Emails are not acknowledged. Just unprofessional business practices across the board. What becomes readily apparent is that they are not in any way interested in building long-term relationships with their customers and just don't care if they damage their reputation any further. read more

I recently had carpet installed in my basement. I would say Sherlock exceeded my expectations on 3 levels: -Customer Service- The sales associate, Patrick, was very helpful from start to finish. We didn't have a strong idea of what we wanted, and as such, he was able to give us options with broad strokes, that helped shape what we wanted our basement to look like. He was knowledgeable as far as being able present different prices, while being realistic on the quality. I appreciated that he simply presented options, instead of being pushy. Additionally, he made it clear why certain discounts were available (carpet stored onsight, older model, etc.) -Timeliness- We were able to get our carpet installed within a week, which was huge for us, as we didn't want to have to move things out of our basement. Also, Patrick was flexible with scheduling as both me and my wife were living/working in the city prior to installation. -Quality- The carpet looks amazing! They were great with providing samples, and working with the pictures we had taken to get the right color tones. The installation guys work quickly an efficiently, installing 1300 square feet in roughly 6 hours. They identified a water spot in my utility closet, which we were able to fix and didn't even slow them own (thanks guys). Very friendly crew. I would absolutely recommend these guys for carpeting. read more

My fiancé and I recently purchased a home in Orland Park and were in need of some new flooring. Rather than replacing the wood floors that were a tad scraped up Sherlock's recommended just having them refinished. It made a world of a difference! They look like brand new floors. We also had some carpet replaced in the spare bedrooms and the work was equally as impressive. It's always a tough task to find a company you can trust that is going to give you quality work for a fair price, but I highly recommend Sherlock's and will continue to use them in the future! read more

I asked them 3 times when I was buying my flooring if I needed to glue the floor or was it a snap and go. Salesman John said no glue needed it was snap in go floating floor. When I picked it up I again asked if I needed glue and they said no. Sure enough when contractor came on Saturday to install I needed glue and a totally different underlayment. Now had to spend $300+ on glue, and take a day off of work to have floor installed. I called them Saturday 2/8/20 and still have not heard from them. Not the type of customer service you are looking for from neighborhood store. They also did the bait and switch when I was looking in showroom, talking to one guy and then the slick salesman came over. Think I got a decent price but felt like I was in a new car showroom. They never discussed underlayment with me which makes me think they knew they were selling me glue down and didn't say anything. I was willing to pay just needed to know and they were not straight up with me. Again, I need carpet for two rooms but will not go to them based on this experience. Try to give the little store some business but will go elsewhere now. read more

I recently did some business with Sherlock's Carpet and Tile in Orland Park, Il. My experience and advice is to stay away from this store. We were totally misled about the product. I specifically asked about footprints and vacuum marks. Other carpet dealers have come in my house and are dumfounded by the appearance. The sales people do not know their products. Our ($5000) carpet was installed in March. It is the worst I've ever seen. He will not offer any kind of refund. Beware of Marty Sherlock - he is a bully and takes you into his office to berate and yell at you - make sure you have someone with you as a witness. My advice is to do business with another carpet or flooring company who knows what they are talking about. This has been my worst experience ever - my carpet will be given to charity or a needy family who does not care about about foot prints, toe prints or the ability to vacuum. You cannot vacuum this "Essential Living" Karastan product. I've taken a remnant to Oreck, Kirby, Sears - it's terrible and I just lost $5000. Do your business elsewhere! read more

My husband and I were looking to make a big impact in our kitchen with a modern glass mosaic backsplash but we didn't know much else about selecting the tile or the grout and mortar. Jerry Svec answered all our questions; even some we didn't know to ask. He took our vision and helped us choose the most amazing tile and color matched the grout. We stopped at Lowe's and Home Depot before coming to Sherlock's and found their selection was the largest we'd seen and their prices were great too! This is a long review - but since I am giving them the lowest rating - I think a detailed explanation is the fair way to go: Overall, my recommendation is (1) do not buy Robina Wood Flooring - my experience is they seem to have quality problems in their manufacturing process and they ship defective product, and (2) find a store that is willing to stand behind the products that they sell (in my opinion, Sherlock's is not that store). As additional background: This past fall (2013) I purchased Robina wood flooring from Sherlock's Carpet and Tile in Orland Park, IL, for two rooms in my condo. The flooring had a number of issues immediately after installation. Within a day of installation (after having followed the acclimation process for the flooring) several of the boards separated, and there were blemishes in the finish that at first glance look like a finger print that can be wiped off, only to try and find that it is in the finish itself. I documented and communicated the problems to the store management immediately after I discovered the problem. The store staff checked with the manufacturer of the wood flooring and the manufacturer said there were no issues with the wood, and suggested that the defective areas be replaced. They also said the blemished wood should have been noticed and not used. My complaint was pretty much dismissed - even though I had documented the complaint with photos and measurements of the defective areas, and I offered to have the manufacturer's rep come to my home to see the installed product. No further action was taken and no offers made to make it right. I proceeded with the repairs, and communicated back to the store when the rework was completed. Some of the separated boards were warped and for several, the interlocking installation system had failed. Weeks after that the rework was completed the owner of the store contacted me and said they wanted to make it right. I thanked him and asked what he was proposing. I proposed reimbursement for one box of wood flooring and some amount of the labor on the rework. He said he needed the defective wood before he would do anything (mind you this is almost two months after the rework was completed). I reminded him that I had previously contacted the store about the defects, provided documentation and photos and had invited the manufacturers rep to my home to see for themselves before I had it replaced - but nothing was done and I felt my complaint had been dismissed. I said that since I live in a condo (with limited storage space) I had since discarded the flooring that had to be taken up - but would have saved it if they had contacted me when I made my situation known to them if they were going to do something to resolve it. I felt I had taken an appropriate approach with the store and manufacturer on these problems and was not seeking a very large sum of reimbursement for things that were not caused by me or the installer. But the store and manufacturer has done nothing to make this right. read more

My husband and I came here to check out carpeting for our new condo. We were staying in the suburbs at the time, but our condo was in the city. I got the feeling they don't usually do jobs in the city, but Patrick didn't hesitate to agree to help us. He drove to the city to measure for us, and their installation crew was great as well. Patrick was knowledgable, and I never got the feeling he was trying to 'sell' us. I had older wood floors restored. They did excellent work the crew was very professional and informative. We were so pleased with the work, we had another room done we weren't planning on doing right away. Tip if you have the floors done doi it while weather is warmer so you can open windows an air out hose, as the fumes are strong. I highly recommend this company for sanding and refinishing wood floors. read more

I just had beautiful Karastan carpeting installed in my living room/dining room. Everything went so smoothly, from my initial store experience with Joan, who helped me pick the quality and color with unusual professionalism and her interior design experience. She came to my home to take measurements and could not have been more courteous and knowledgeable. My installers came on time, took great care with some very expensive furniture! They did a wonderful job and even cleaned and vacuumed before they left. It was a stunning performance from start to finish. I liked it so much that I have ordered more carpeting for upstairs. I have had Sherlock's install before and each time is better than the last. Rock on! read more

It's about time for an updated review. Horrible service! Maybe they were great in 2011 and 2012. This year is proving otherwise. I was referred to this company by a close friend who has used Sherlock's on a number of occasions with nothing but wonderful things to say. I, however, did not have the same experience. I had ordered carpet for 2 rooms in my home. The day of installation, they were late. I had to call to find how where they were and when they would be arriving. When they did arrive, I was informed that carpet for one of the rooms was not in the warehouse that morning and that it would have to be installed at another date. This resulted in a charge from a furniture company who was scheduled to deliver the following week which then had to be cancelled. The second installation date arrived and they were late yet again. I had to call 50 minutes after the time window to find out where the installers were. Apparently the job prior to mine was not measured correctly and the installers had to go back to the warehouse to get more carpet. This delayed my installation an additional two hours. Neither occasion was I contacted by Sherlock's to let me know they were running behind. When I called to complain, I left two messages for the manager within a 24 hour window and never recieved a call back. I called to get the owner's contact information and all he did was apologize for the lack of customer service from his employees. No discount was given for the inconvenience of my entire afternoon being consumed waiting for his installers or for not being notified of the delay, not to mention the initial issue of the capet not getting installed the first time it was scheduled. There is an apparent lack of communication between their warehouse, sales reps, installers and office managers. Time is money. Service is key. Not only have they lost a potential returning customer, they have lost my friend as a customer as well. If you use this company, you will have nothing but frustration. read more

i am a designer and do a lot of work out south ,thought i'd give sherlock's a try . they have access to a considerable number of product lines. however getting anyone to followed up on their assurances proved to be an exercise in frustration. spoke to original sales assoc. 3x in person 4x via telephone with no satisfaction. this was merely at the purchase stage. other sales assoc. were apparently trained the same way . a total lack of commitment to the client. not sure with whom they do business as all i've seen them do is stare into their computer screens while ignoring a cash buyer standing in front of them. read more
