A solid spot to pick up your favorite wine, spirits, beer and even, cigar! Located on Roswell Road in Marietta, on the corner of Robinson and right above the Kroger sits this Sherlock's location. It may not look like a big place from the outside, but you will be pleasantly surprised at the sprawling and expertly laid out interior! I ventured in a few times pre-Covid with no complaints and I can say that I enjoy this spot a little more now given their response. They have clear signs stating masks are required, the staff is wearing masks at all times, directional signage in on the floor and they keep the place really clean. Parking is kind of a nightmare, especially if they are busy. The Robinson side of the building is the best bet for easy access in and out of your spot, as the Roswell Road part of the lot features a few spots, but when they are all full backing out safely can be a little tough as this part of the lot is narrow. Additionally, something to look out for on the Robinson side is the sloped pass thru that folks use to shoot off of Robinson into the parking lot below. These folks don't pay attention and fly up and down this, so be mindful and careful! The layout of the place is fantastic and the building is well lit from corner to corner. When you walk in you are greeted with a few options, you can head to the left and scope out wines from all over the place, head the right to find your favorite beer and/or liquor or you can run straight into the cigar room or fine wine area. They have a great selection, not the largest and they don't feature a lot specialty or local spirits, but for the size it is a solid selection and variety. Also, pricing is decent as well. While a few of the other chain stores have slightly lower prices on some of the major brands, but for a convenience factor, I don't mind paying the extra dollar or two. I visited in the midst of COVID-19 and was pleased to see very conspicuous signage to remind customers of social distancing. They had neon yellow tape at checkout to help enforce social distancing. That's the first I've seen and I definitely appreciated Sherlock's focus on safety! Employees aren't overly friendly. I was a first-time visitor and needed help finding a special bottle of bourbon. I had the name/brand in mind and just wanted someone to point me in the right direction. I felt the employee was rude about it - maybe it was just the stress of the viral season - but it was unnecessary. That's why this wasn't a five-star visit for me. Ultimately, I found what I wanted. Solid four stars. I just completed a reasonable sized online order ($400) and it was ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I got there and grabbed a cart to roll the boxes out, but the cashier said don't worry we will hand truck it to your car. In and out in two minutes! Easy online ordering and pickup was a breeze. I love this place. It's among my top go-to places for beer, or if I want to seek out any other spirits for gifts. Their location is conveniently located off of Roswell Rd (the Marietta part) GA-120, and is on my way home from work, which means it's easy for me to swing in, grab what I need and make a convenient right turn out of the parking lot to continue on home. They're clean, spacious, well-lit and well-stocked, and I've never had any issue with the people that work there, and amidst the brave new world of coronavirus, this specific Sherlock's was the place I had in mind where I should check out for a beer run, because of all the aforementioned attributes, and it would keep me away from a grocery store, where I'd be at higher risk of being around corona deniers, irate toilet paper seekers and reckless people not wearing PPE. They did not disappoint. Variety wise, I can really only speak on behalf of beer, because I'm not much of a liquor or wine drinker. Sherlock's has a pretty good variety of craft beers, because I'm a hipster that enjoys stuff like sours and goses, but in a pinch, they've got a wide variety of water (aka Bud/Miller/Coors) and if its your cup of tea, a bunch of different IPAs. As far as spirits go, they carry a good variety of pretty common things, from bourbons, rum, vodka, gin, etc. They've never had Blanton's, but then again I've never found Blanton's anywhere outside of an airport international terminal, so no demerit in that regard. Prices are competitive to most places you can get booze from, and I've never felt like I'd been fleeced whenever I've gone there. But what really keeps me coming back aside from the convenient location, is their general cleanliness, and I don't ever feel like I'm a depraved scumbag seeking cheap booze whenever I go in and out of there. Their parking lot is kind of small and I have to warn people that the Robinson Rd-side entrance also acts as an on-ramp into the rest of the shopping center, and reckless Beckys and Trents in their SUVs and pickup trucks treat it as such, so if you're exiting via Robinson, please be careful for incoming traffic first. As I said, I love this Sherlock's. I'm glad to see that they're constantly fairly busy, even amid the brave new world of coronavirus, and they're practicing social distancing, with floor markers and signage to explain the protective measures in play. I visited this liquor store for the first time about a month ago. I don't drink alcohol anymore but I just started making homemade vanilla extract. I had no idea what kind of rum or vodka I wanted and the owner took his time and explained each alcohol to me in layman's terms. Lol I was just so blown away by the customer service and the interaction with the owner!! It is literally the only liquor store I will shop at moving forward. I like this place. Good selection, great people. They may not always have exactly what I'm looking for but they definitely have something that will get the job done. I wish that they would expand their selection a bit. They have volumes of the "old standbys" but they are lacking in variety. ex: I believe that they carry the standard Chopin vodka (which is made from potatoes) but Chopin also makes vodkas from wheat and rye. We've lived near this store for 18 years and have watched the quality of customer service decline to the point where it is non existent. We only stop in occasionally now only based on location but we are usually willing to drive a little further for a more pleasant experience. Today there were 3 unhelpful, apparently mute employees standing behind one register. One was within arms reach of the ice which I needed and he made no attempt to even pretend to offer to help get a bag or open the door. I also tried to inquire about kegs for a FUTURE party and one employee reluctantly spoke up only to say, "We don't have any kegs TODAY." Just overall sucky service. read more

I rate Sherlock's at 4 stars because of the expertise of "Bob" (an older gentleman with eyeglasses). My friends have become fans of Bob and his knowledge. I have found Bob to be a wealth of information about wines when I am looking for inexpensive to expensive out-of-the-ordinary wines and port. I came in looking for a Cabernet sauvignon by my favorite Napa Valley winery, Caymus. Sherlock's was sold out of the 2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Cabernet ($59.99), and it is also sold out by the winery. Sherlock's does have the 2009 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet (competitively priced at $129.99). Sherlock's also stocks my favorite inexpensive Napa Valley sparkling wine, Domaine Chandon's Chandon Blanc de Noirs ($16.99). This sparkling wine goes well with foods ranging from sushi to grilled and spicy foods, and it's my "go-to bubbly" for meals with family and friends that can be made memorable with a "Champagne." Strange to think of a liquor store as a landmark even during childhood, but being on the corner of Roswell and Robinson Rd puts it right at the nexus of a major intersection on the way to my parents' house, so it's the first place I think of when I think of liquor stores. As for stock, it has pretty much everything you could want. Imported and domestic beers (with more to choose from than a lot of places I've been to), every kind of liquor you can think of, and a generally friendly and knowledgable staff who are glad to point you to their favorites. Sherlock's is best known for its selection of wine-- boasting a colleciton that takes up half of the store. Even not being a big sophisticate of wine, it's obvious that this place has more than the average venue, and like other good stores, they offer short rated descriptions of lesser known brands you might enjoy. The "order online and pick up" is a SCAM. If they don't trust your order or just don't want to deal with it, they won't call, they won't email, no communication. They just cancel and then lie and snarl when you dare to show up and pick up what you ordered and what they went right ahead and charged your card for. I had shopped at Sherlock's since 2005. But, after today--no more. Short version: Their handicapped parking spaces, located near entrance and exit, are for appearances only. Over the years I had enjoyed their selection and competitive prices. I visited once or twice a month. However, their level of service, which once excelled, has declined to little more than stocking the shelves and accepting payment. About every other time I have visited recently, one or both handicapped spaces has been occupied by patrons who could not care less about the inconvenience to others. Employees have made clear that they don't, either. Today was the last straw. I had worked in the yard and was in pain. When I complained about a pickup truck belonging to a healthy young male blocking both spaces, I was asked to leave. "We want happy and relaxed here," I was blithely told. Yeah, I got loud. I take my cigars seriously and I tend to try to test the people who work here when I come in. I am not a helpless little shopper that needs help when purchasing a "mans cigar" step aside, I'll teach you a few things. Their cigar room makes me weak in the knees. Hemingway, curly head madura, double chateau and belicoso--Arturo Fuentes, how I love thee! I have tried other brands but I always go back to the torpedos. Okay wow, never giving money to this establishment again. I got to the checkout and noticed the charge for a bottle of liquor i was buying was high. So I asked how much the larger bottle of the same liquor was and they said it's the same price as the small one. I asked why is that? And they said that happens sometimes. So I said, well I would rather have the larger bottle then. The two people at the register looked at me as if I were crazy and causing a huge inconvenience to them. They said well I guess we'll have to get the manager then. So I said that would be great if it's the same price. So I went and got the larger bottle and they showed me the price and it was the same price as the small bottle. I said isn't that disconcerting that you have two different bottles at the same price? and they said well that's that just happens sometimes but they didn't care that I was being ripped off. So the manager finally comes over not smiling didn't say a word, looked grumpy, removed the charge for the original bottle, charged the new bottle, and no one smiled or apologized. It seemed that I was inconveniencing them the whole time. The staff and manager here don't smile, aren't concerned about customer satisfaction and frankly don't care that I was going to pay them more to get less. From the manager's attitude, it seems to roll downhill so I don't blame the apathetic automotons that checked me out but the manager seemed to walk around hating his job and everyone in it. That was probably the worst experience I've ever had it at this store and I'm never going back. It wasn't always this way. They used to be super friendly. But I don't see the same people anymore so I'm assuming new management with no care is no running the show now. Sad. read more

My go to place.. prices are pretty good comparable to other stores, friendly cashiers, good selection of beer,wine,Sake, and other goodies- and even a cigar room (I have no idea how good they are but they do sell them!). I'm going to rate this one down to three stars but only because the staff is hit or miss. The selection of beer, wine, and liquor is actually pretty good. The prices are probably the best in the neighborhood. The only issue I have is some staff members would sooner dig your grave than to talk to you and then there are some that are the nicest people in the world. Some of them have no clue where things are in the store and others are extremely educated in their products. I'm a $90 bottle of bourbon kind of guy but if I wan't to go out on a limb on something I haven't tried I would want a more evenly tempered staff. I used to go out of my way to shop at this store. Not anymore. My wife and I are in our late 60ties. On our way home from a Doc. appt. I talked her into stopping for some wine. She said she had to go to the bathroom. I said it will only take a minute. While waiting at the check out she said she really had to go. She asked to used the bathroom. A male employee just hanging around the check out girl joking around doing nothing said we don't have one. I replied I've used it once before. He said it's for employees only and rudely turned and walked away. I tried to reason with the check out girl but she said the general manager made that rule. Then said to go across the street and use the one at the CVS. What would it cost them to let her use the bathroom a couple gallons of water and a few sheets of TP. Very non-engaging. It's that time of year, and everyone's on the great bourbon hunt. Went to a store down the road, and they didn't have what I was looking for, but the gentleman was very engaging and informative. So I made a purchase from him. I've been going here for a while since we moved across the street. Tonight my wife and I decided to stop in to grab some beer for the weekend. My wife needed to use the bathroom but since they didn't have one she decided to just wait in the car. When I got to the checkout I was told I couldn't buy anything without my wife's ID. This location of Sherlock's gets a five star rating for customer service and always being to "go to" liquor store for hard to find liquors and wine. I read an article about an Asian spirit called Ty Ku that was filled with superfruits and antioxidants. The article named so many yummy drinks and talked about how low cal this liquor was I couldn't wait to try it (who doesn't want to have a little cocktail and be healthy at the same time!). After visiting four liquor stores and not one manager or store operator had even heard of Ty Ku I was discouraged. My last attempt was Sherlock's. I called Sherlock's from my cell as I was leaving another liquor store and asked the person that answered the phone if they had it. She knew exactly what I was talking about and said they had it in stock. When I got there the clerk assisted me to the shelf and also helped me with the brands of other spirits to go with it. My friends and I were greeted by an employee who assumed we were underage and then proceeded to tell us to leave and that he wouldn't tell anyone. My friend politely showed his ID and we continued to look for a Christmas present for 30 min.
