Exceptional Experience & Recovery with Dr. Sumit H. Rana…read moreProcedure: Outpatient Robotic Total Knee Replacement (Subvastus Approach) I can't say enough good things about my experience with Dr. Sumit H. Rana and his team. Before going into my robotic total knee replacement, I had heard plenty of stories about how grueling and difficult knee recovery can be. While I know everyone's experience is different, my recovery has been remarkably smooth. Whether I was just incredibly fortunate or benefited from choosing the right surgeon and technique, my results exceeded my expectations. The Surgery Experience The procedure was performed as an outpatient surgery at a brand-new surgical center. From start to finish, the entire process was quick, seamless, and easy. The nursing and support staff were outstanding--friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful in keeping me comfortable and informed. Dr. Rana's surgical precision was evident right away: the incision was extremely neat, and as it continues to heal, there is almost no visible scar left. Recovery & Outcome My post-surgery pain was minimal and lasted for only a very limited window. I had great range of motion straight out of surgery, was ditching the cane and walking on my own within a week and have been hitting recovery milestones well ahead of standard timelines ever since. Recommendation During my rehabilitation, I mentioned Dr. Rana to my physical therapy team, and they told me that they always see great outcomes and rapid progress from his patients. In hindsight, although I of course did my own research, I probably should have consulted a PT before choosing my surgeon! If you are considering a robotic knee replacement, especially via the subvastus approach, I cannot recommend Dr. Rana highly enough. He and his team gave me my mobility back faster and easier than I ever thought possible.

Throughout my 30-year career in STEM, I've extensively worked as an educator in math, physics, and…read morechemistry, meeting countless students along the way. But few have impressed me quite like Gina Nalbandian--not just because of her brilliance, but more importantly, because of her measured tenderness, which makes her the perfect physician. When my mother experienced strange pains below her ankle, we immediately sought medical help. The first physician merely commanded her to wear varicose socks without even touching her foot. The second did the same, and the third simply gave her an injection--one that worsened the pain. After a month, my mother still wasn't feeling any better. Then, I remembered that one of my dear students from many years ago--Gina--had become a podiatrist. I scheduled an appointment and took my mother to her. First, after two decades, Gina recognized me instantly. Second, she was the only physician who actually examined my mother's foot before prescribing appropriate footwear and natural pain relief, while also helping us understand that the pain might never fully disappear. A few weeks into the treatment, my mother reported that the pain had significantly subsided. During the follow-up, she was so impressed by her new doctor's sharpness and bedside manner that she asked me to take a picture of them together. Here it is! We are forever grateful to Dr. Gina Nalbandian.

My experience with the surgery coordinator, Cecilia Contreras, was very disappointing…read more I contacted the office after receiving approval for my second inguinal hernia surgery authorization to understand the next steps in the process. When I originally met with the office, I was told that if I was busy, I could schedule the surgery later and that I had flexibility regarding the timing. I also experienced difficulty reaching Cecilia directly. On multiple occasions when I called the office, she was unavailable, which made it challenging to get timely information and assistance regarding my care. For that reason, I was surprised by the way I was treated during my recent phone call. Instead of receiving guidance and support, I felt blamed for not scheduling the surgery sooner. Patients may have personal, family, work, financial, or health-related reasons for postponing a procedure, and I felt those circumstances were not taken into consideration. What concerned me most was the tone of the conversation. I felt that Cecilia Contreras was rude, dismissive, unprofessional, and unnecessarily confrontational. As someone whose primary language is not English, I was doing my best to communicate and understand the process. Rather than helping clarify the situation, the conversation left me feeling uncomfortable, pressured, and discouraged from asking questions. I was told that if I planned to continue with the office, I needed to schedule the surgery, and if not, I should say so immediately. This felt more like pressure than patient care, especially considering that I had previously been told I could schedule the procedure when my circumstances allowed. Communication was often incomplete. For example, when my follow-up appointment was scheduled, I was given the date but not the time and had to ask for it separately. The call also ended abruptly without the level of courtesy and professionalism that patients should expect from a medical office. Scheduling surgery is a significant medical decision, and patients deserve to be treated with respect, professionalism, and understanding. Unfortunately, this interaction caused me to lose confidence in moving forward with this office, and I have decided to seek care elsewhere. I hope the clinic reviews how patients are treated and improves communication with future patients.

At the first appointment, the doctor examined my son, prescribed physical therapy, and ordered a custom nighttime brace to keep his feet at a 90-degree angle while sleeping. The problems started immediately. We were initially double-charged for the office visit, and it took more than a month to correct the billing error. We were also told our insurance would cover a significant portion of the brace, but after the order was placed, we were informed that a staff member had made a mistake and failed to account for our deductible, leaving us responsible for the full amount. A few days after my son's feet were scanned, the office called to say they had lost the scans and we had to come back for another appointment. After the second scan, they called again to ask whether the brace was supposed to be for one foot or both. The doctor also prescribed physical therapy. I contacted numerous pediatric physical therapy providers, but none accepted children my son's age. When I asked the office for guidance, I was told the doctor would recommend another provider. That never happened. After waiting another month, we finally received what was supposed to be the custom nighttime brace. It wasn't. It looked like a simple shoe brace with no straps to hold my son's feet in the prescribed position. When I called and went for another visit, the doctor initially tried to convince me that this was actually better than the brace she had prescribed. Only after I insisted did they agree to remake it. Then came weeks of delays and conflicting information. Every time we called, we were given a different explanation. One person said we had already picked it up. Another said it had been sent back for correction. Then we were promised it would be ready the following week. None of those promises were kept. By this point, we had lost confidence and sought a second opinion from another pediatric orthopedic specialist. After examining my son, that specialist told us that, in their medical opinion, he did not need either the prescribed physical therapy or the brace. Finally, after more than FIVE MONTHS, we picked up what was supposed to be the corrected custom brace. The doctor didn't even come into the room to check the fit or examine my son. We were simply handed the device and sent home. When we got home, we discovered something that perfectly summed up our entire experience. Both braces were made for the RIGHT foot. Not one for the left and one for the right. Two right-foot braces. After five months of delays, repeated mistakes, conflicting explanations, and a device that was not usable, we ultimately chose to stop the process. We were told that a partial refund could be issued, and we received back approximately half of the amount we had paid. Even with that refund, the experience left us without a usable brace and with months of our son's treatment time lost. ***Update after the doctor's response*** The doctor's response still does not address my main concerns. My son was not supposed to receive an AFO in the first place. We specifically chose a nighttime brace because he attends preschool and we did not want his walking or play to be affected unless absolutely necessary. If the final solution was simply an off-the-shelf night splint with no right or left side, why were my son's feet scanned and why was I charged $550 for what was presented as a custom orthotic? I also find it disappointing that the response emphasizes how the staff "worked tirelessly." They spent that time correcting their own repeated mistakes. Fixing those mistakes was part of their professional responsibility, not a favor to my family. What is still missing is a simple acknowledgment and apology. P.S. Despite receiving a partial refund, I was still charged over $200 for a device that appears to be a generic night splint available for around $15 at Walmart. Please refer to the photos attached for comparison

Unprofessional, Money-First Care…read more I made an appointment with this doctor, and was in the hold time of five weeks to see him. A week later his office called to say he says I had to see a nurse first to confirm I "need" surgery before the doctor would even speak with me and then wait several additional weeks to get back on his schedule. The office showed no concern for patient inconvenience or extra cost: a deductible twice, making two trips, and waiting longer while they screen for higher‑paying cases. That is prioritizing revenue over patient care. My time has value also! When a physician places potential income ahead of patients' well‑being, it represents a breach of the fundamental duty of care, they are expected to act in patients' best medical interests, not their bank account. That erosion of professional responsibility creates delayed diagnoses and treatment, unnecessary costs and travel, and emotional stress from uncertainty. Once care feels transactional rather than ethical, patients lose confidence in clinical judgments, second‑guess recommendations, and may delay or avoid needed care entirely. Trust is essential to clear communication and good outcomes. It is difficult to rebuild when decisions appear driven by revenue rather than health. And if this guy's nurse turns people down as not profitable enough, then they need to start shopping for a new doctor after waiting over a month. Why even start with this mess?
