I tried Ace Hardware first because the people at this location are usually unfriendly, but Ace was out of what I needed. I went to Spectrum and they said the product was out of stock and took down my information for a special order. I called nearly 2 weeks later wondering if my paint came in and they had no record of my order. Turns out they had it in stock all along! Grrrr. I went to get it and asked for some kind of discount because they screwed up--a paintbrush, 5% off-- something for my inconvenience. They said it was a new employee and they don't give discounts for mistakes. I've worked retail for many years and this is such a crazy policy. I won't come here again and we'll stick with Sherwin Williams from now on.

Ultra Spec 500 is definitely the best for walls. Regal and Aura are overpriced and tend to drip to due paint viscosity, so I wouldn't use these lines unless you plan on having your home professionally painted. Advance tends to drip as well, so you will need to practice if you plan on using it yourself. Otherwise, I would recommend hiring a professional painter to apply Advance. There seems to be some pricing discrepancies each time I buy in the store. Sometimes they will apply a painter's discount and other times will charge me full price. I have addressed the problem with the store manager on a couple of occasions. My only real complaint is they tend to ignore customers in the store unless they are professional painters. Of course, they make more money on these customers, but they should at least acknowledge a customer when he or she comes in and say how long it will be before they help them. I saw one woman sitting at a table for over 20 minutes without help. Not acceptable. I have gotten to the point that I just write my order down, place it on the counter, and then go to Einstein Bagels to get something to eat. By the time I come back, my order is typically ready.

He was quick but left paste on all my trim and surfaces telling me it would easily come off when I cleaned it. It took MONTHS. He was not cheap either. I cannot claim that he stole anything from my home (see other review) but it was curious that he "found" the paint for the trim in my laundry room and painted the floor trim behind my washer and dryer. Which we didn't ask him to do. Not sure if he was looking for a tip or just making it seem like he was working longer.. either way, the pricey wallpaper in my powder room looks "ok" but not the professional quality you would expect for the price we paid.

He then went into our master bedroom multiple times, where he stole jewelry and used pliers to pry the diamond out from my wife's wedding ring. His M.O. is distracting you with asks to get him tools "he does not have" and then he quickly walks throughout your house while you are away. He also will tell you that you did not order enough wallpaper, so he has an excuse to come back and steal items based on his filming. We used him once before we caught him, analyzed our security videos from when he was there in the past, and realized what he was doing. When confronted and told of the evidence, he admitted to the theft. Again, if you hire Henson Wallpapering, HE WILL STEAL FROM YOU!

On this recent visit, I especially want to recognize Mike L. I was working on a church project and, not being creative, was stuck regarding how to fix ribbons to a pole. He showed me several displays of hardware around the store that might serve my needs. After looking in three different areas, we found exactly the right item! And then I needed an enzymatic drain cleaner, and he walked me through the specifics of the various brands for sale, going through the details until we found just the right one for my needs. MANY thanks to Mike L. for his knowledge of hardware and home upkeep items, for his persistence in searching various areas until we found exactly the right item, and for his friendly, patient and welcoming attitude as we searched together. Thank you for such a pleasant shopping experience! Your great customer service is the reason I return to Waldo Hardware FIRST!

I've brought my pup in here as she continues to need some socialization and it always goes well. One time the clerks had their dog too and they became fast friends. This store really packs quite a bit into it. Of course it won't be as sizable as a Home Depot, but man oh man is the experience world's better. I found every single thing on my list which was great. It's closest size comparison to me would be the Ace in Westport, but hey guess what, you don't have to fear for your life in KC's worst intersection if you come here! It's easy to park in the lot out front, off of the always-busy 75th Street. My kids love it because they have a gumball machine, whoopie cushions, and other classics from back in the day when the world was making real attempts to be fun. I think I might even go out of my way again to come back to this spot more regularly.. nice place.

The one gal short hair quite a few piercings everywhere (just for reference not judgment) immediately was confrontational telling me she is not doing samples. I asked to speak w/a mgr and she avoided it and lied literally did not inform them I was waiting. She said they are busy. She didn't offer solutions, was untruthful and then made it clear or presented such tension the other co-worker then ignored me. When I finally was in touch w/Eric. He was simply a Superstar. He acknowledged the problem, brought all the way to the Airport the sample (there are many many solutions even if a quart had been offered) and wrote me a very dear apology. SW is lucky to have him. The other 2 need to be terminated. There is no hope often for employees to sabotage a business or to stand in the way to management. She was ugly from the moment I waited over 5 minutes just to get a "hello" that I never received. It was just, "NO" I am not doing samples right now. Thank you again Eric for at least validating poor behavior. The other reviews of terrible service are accurate, but Eric can't work alone! He needs help w/people that care.

I wouldn't hesitate to bring my questions to this store, as they seem ready, willing and able to answer any concerns, plus, as a stand-alone store, you don't have to deal with huge crowds like you would at a place like Home Depot or Lowe's.

Guess what color our (partial, thank GOD) carpet is? Liver brown walls. Beige carpeting. PUKE. Side note: I have fantasies of ripping up that hideous carpet in the bedrooms and finding decent real wood floors. But that's besides the point. When you've got a serious paint job pending, you can't trust Home Depot. Let's be real, the folks working in that department would just as soon sell you a half gallon of pure crap paint that isn't even going to color your walls (case in point: last year, we bought an inexpensive half gallon of dark red...five coats and tons of streaks later, we had to do a dark wash over it). When we walked into SW this weekend, after agonizing for a month over our color scheme (we are obsessive), we settled on a metallic gold for the dining room that comes right off of our living room, which we planned on making a metallic red. How does one do the metallic thing? You buy a special treatment. The guy working there knew his shit. He pointed us in the right direction of just what we needed and we walked out of there not too long after with just what we wanted. It was a breeze. Paint buying is never a breeze for me. I've gotta give credit where credit is due. The only caveat: I'd avoid buying your supplies here if you can. Blow your load on getting that high quality paint (SW is expensive especially for dark and metallic paints), and save money by buying brushes, rollers, tape, etc. at the hardware store.

Flash forward a bit and we're ready to get this thing painted, but first the never ending process of color swatches. This little store is easy to access next to Sunfresh (Unfresh?) in Westport. People are friendly and mix up color samples with the snap of a finger. Their paints are known for quality as well, so all good things. The only problem for me is that the little color card samples you get look almost NOTHING like the paint. It's probably about 75% accurate which isn't ideal when you're comparing ivory and bone and you feel like you should win something if you can find the difference in those versus eggshell and moonlight. Either way, my old man rant of color swatches is over because again the actual paint samples are what you need anyways and those are well-priced and easy to get.
