It was a great offer, where Hawaii Electric wanted people to give up energy inefficient bulbs and use more efficient LED bulbs. Well, it's a great offer if the people at the store don't refuse to do the exchange and you have to purchase the bulbs instead. That's how it went down. I decided to write to Hawaii Electric and got a nice response from Kolia, who offered to investigate the problem. It took quite a while (like she had anything more important to do? Lol) but she finally got the message across with someone at this store that I should get a refund. Kudos to Kolia for her terrific attitude and efforts to get that straightened out. So, on the following morning, I returned to the Lahaina Ace Hardware Store. I didn't want to wait until the refund offer was forgotten. I asked for the manager (I had no "Karen" attitude) and Myrar came to the checkout. I explained my reason for coming and it was obvious that she had no idea that I should be getting a refund. Someone left this manager out of the loop. Fortunately, after some friendly discussion, Myrar agreed that I should get the refund after I handed over my bag-o-bulbs. Thank you, Myrar, for making this so pleasant. I'm leaving my rating unchanged, because someone left it up to me to convince this nice lady to do the right thing.

Their Island sales rep Chris was super helpful and really understood the scope of the RFP for after the project completion. It was really nice to work with somebody who was able to find solutions for us when a usual product we use was out from one of their competitors. (I know - but supply issues make for desperate times). Not only did he find a perfect match, he was able to help with a quick turn around. Hoping to get their help on a project on Kauai too because their rep works statewide.

I took my two cans of paint that was approximately 4 years old. The lid was very rusty. They sell replacement cans for approximately $7 each, but I took two large plastic containers with lids. I paid for two strainers approximately $2+ each since I had different color paints. Galen strained the paints from the old cans to the containers I took in, made replacement labels with the original information to adhere to the containers. I would definitely go back to this location for my painting needs. I've been using Sherwin Williams for over 6 years and with my phone number Galen could locate my purchase history, including while I was living on the mainland. We even had the original Sherwin-Williams paint can with the specs on it. You'd think that would make things simple. You would be wrong. Home Depot tried several times. To their credit, they at least noticed the color was drying wrong. But after enough "close enough" attempts to make me question my sanity and my walls, I finally went to the Sherwin-Williams on King Street. That's where I met a younger Polynesian guy with an incredible afro and the energy level of someone who actually enjoys helping people, which frankly feels rare these days. This guy spent OVER TWO HOURS trying to get the match correct. Testing, adjusting, remixing, checking the dry-down, trying again. At one point he literally told me, "I'm still not happy with it, give me a little more time." Which is exactly what you want to hear from someone matching paint, and not from your surgeon or airline pilot. The best part is I wasn't even buying some massive contractor order. I needed ONE quart. One. Tiny. Quart. And he still treated it like a mission of national importance. Eventually, he nailed it. But honestly, the thing that stood out most wasn't just the paint match. It was the attitude. The guy was smiling the entire time. Super upbeat, super patient, never once acted annoyed. And weirdly enough, everyone else there seemed genuinely cheerful too. Management included. The whole store felt relaxed and positive, which was especially noticeable after dealing with the emotional support zombies at their auto paint counterpart store recently. Sherwin-Williams (on King Street), seriously: you've got a keeper. Give that guy a raise, a promotion, or at minimum his own reserved parking spot. Excellent service. Excellent effort. And finally, walls that don't look like they were patched using leftovers from three different dimensions.
