My mother in law went to buy two gallons of eggshell paint from this location today. Fairly simple I would think. She went in, gave formula numbers for the paint we needed, got it, got home, and I began painting. A couple of hours later, my husband gets home and jumps in to begin the trim work. He grabs the gallon I am working out of and gets to work. As I am painting, I remark at how awesome the paint is blending with the other part of the house that is the same color. It has been 3 years since we painted. Awesome! We finish, take up the tape, clean up, and then grab dinner. Total work time from start to finish is about 6 1/2 hours. We painted a large area. After dinner, we head upstairs to put our kids to bed and I notice that after the paint has dried, there are two different colors on the wall. And...one is shinier than the other! WHAT????? My husband is frustrated because I didn't mix the two gallons of paint. My bad. I'm not a professional painter so I don't know these tricks of the trade. It would have been nice of the paint people to tell us that but they didn't. It looks like we will have to repaint tomorrow. Why are the two paints so different, though? Wouldn't the formula be the same in both cans? How could it be so drastically different? I grab the receipt and notice that we were charged for two cans of eggshell paint. I go back in my memory and remember that the can I used said flat. My stomach drops! Could it be possible that they gave us two different types of paint? I went and grabbed the empty paint can and the one that still had paint. YEP! Two different kinds of paint! So, here's what I am hoping for tomorrow: Full refund on our purchase 2 cans of the SAME paint A painter that will come out to our house tomorrow and repaint our rooms I'll let you know what happens.....

I had a need for one gallon of my home's original Porter Paint and went to Hoover. Once there I…read morediscovered the paint was 'out of production', which was confusing as all colors, to my knowledge, are pigment mixed on the spot. I'm a home owner, not a contractor, so the nomenclature may be wrong but you get the picture. Anyway, the service person said it was no problem and they found the "old paint code' in a book and were able to mix the paint in minutes. While there I asked for a referral to get my aggregate sealing work, they flipped me to a local guy and he worked out great for a reasonable price. The staff at this location know exactly what they're doing and are very glad to help consult when you're not an expert. This isn't the 20 something set, not that there's anything wrong with that age group. But, these guys know how to explain the why's and what's when it comes to the coverings you need, and they're not put out to do it. A very well ran locally owned business. I highly recommend them.

Porter Paint has a reputation for high quality among painting contractors, but perhaps at a higher price than some of the other brands sold at the big box home improvement stores. I was pleasantly surprised to find that while the price was just slightly higher than other brands, the ease of application and coverage more than makes up for the difference. Like just about everything else, you get what you pay for. I'm not a professional painter, but have spread a lot of paint on a lot of walls in my lifetime, and I'm now a huge Porter Paint fan. I'll go there for all of my paint needs from now on.

I live for April when I finally get to start my pepper plants and adore the heat of July and August when okra is popping off my plant like crazy. This year, I decided I wanted to maybe try a fall/winter veggie or two. Went to Home Depot (actually went to 3 Home Depot's!) and they had maybe 3 lettuces to choose from all of which were wilty and oh so sad looking. Don't get me wrong - HD rocks at spring veggie starters, just not fall ones I learned. Called around to a few garden centers in my area and Moore was actually the last one I called. Wish it were the first. Vicky who answered the phone was smiling (I could tell in her voice), kind, friendly and so helpful! She even went to check to give me an exact list of all the veggie starters they had in stock. Tons, btw! Carrot, kale, turnips, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, beets, other leafy greens and some fall herbs. I ended up stopping by about an hour after I called. The place is AMAZING! Great selection of garden decor, soil and gardening tools, along with furniture for outdoors and I believe any plant or tree you could possibly think of to plant. I was there early so not tons of customers yet but about 10 workers. All in masks. All chatting with one slither and laughing (they clearly love their job and who they work with). All asked me if I needed assistance. In the end as I surveyed by fall veggie options, I came to the sad realization that living in an apartment with a balcony/container garden, fall veggies aren't for me. They need so much more space to grow and it wouldn't suit my space well. But once I buy a house in the next few years and get my giant dream garden going - this will be my one stop shop.
