I used to shop this store often and it has always been a little more expensive than the big box stores, but since it was local and helpful I bit the bullet. Until today. I had asked for a tote that was on sale and when I brought it to the front was told it wasn't. I brought the add in from my car and the young gentleman walked me back to see if they had the right size as he stated this was a 12 gallon and not the ones listed on sale (15 and 24 gallon m I believe). Mind you we are talking about a $3 discount. No more of the right size. No problem. I'll use my coupon. Nope. The pumpkins you are buying (no marking of sale ANYWHERE on those) come up when rung up with an "s" - so no coupons allowed. Again - not big money here, but the tone and level of condescension that was shown was just appalling. I turned from him and walked out of the store leaving my items at checkout by the front door. Then it got crazy. The older lady PROCEEDED TO FOLLOW ME OUT THE FRONT DOOR and berate me about coupons having restrictions and was I going to buy it or not. I was shocked. Absolutely shocked. I told her to stop yelling at me and talk to the gentleman. I've never seen anything like this at this ACE, but after today I would highly recommend driving the extra distance to Hermitage rather than risk the berating of the angry clerk and condescending gentlemen. The saddest part is - it was all over $3 when I was going to spend $25 Customer service is dead, friends. And they wonder why ACE's in general have trouble staying open. read more

I asked for help and nobody showed me where it was. All I was told was isle 3. An older man, a younger man with a headset on and a cashier. I returned from isle three after not finding what I was looking for and said thanks for your help I remember why I stopped coming here. Nothing was said by the three standing in the front as I left. There was an older person buying a large bag of something at the counter. As he wrestled it onto his shoulder to leave no one said anything or helped him. I hope a manager or owner sees this so they know that the people they're paying to help customers are not doing their job! read more

I have shopped this Ace many times since it took over part of this unique space (which was once a car dealership). It is pricier compared to the bigger box retailers. However, when you're just needing one or two items, and don't want to trek all the way to Hermitage or Inglewood (cuz you're gonna spend it in fuel anyway), this place is PERFECT. I've visited a few times in the last year, mainly for keys. I always enjoy browsing while I'm waiting, even though key making never takes long. On my last visit, I spent some time looking through a rack of unique greeting cards from a sustainable company I've never heard of before. Finding a hilarious, perfect card for a friend, I made my way to the register before spending any more money! The staff have always been pleasant and helpful on my visits here throughout the years. I also love how non-traditional their curb appeal is. Between the lights and outdoor sale items, such as brightly colored Adirondack chairs, it makes the presentation as unique as the building itself. read more

I have been patronizing this fine hardware store for many years, and even though they have had changes through the years, their quality and consistency of the highest standards of customer service make this a welcome and "go to" hardware store. Every single person that has worked there was always helpful, attentive, and professional in finding things, making keys, and cashier stations. It makes for a pleasant experience, each and every time. These folks preserve the bygone days of a great neighborhood hardware, and that is why l will always return, and give them my business. I was directed to this store by a web search for a wall mounted kitchen faucet. Mine is a rare breed after 80 years and Ace were my third attempt after very kindly treatment at Cumberland hardware and Kenny's pipe. Not all hardware stores are created equal and this Ace in Donelson had many plumbing bits together I had searched long and hard in the past keeping my old house afloat. A young man paused his key making and agreed with me that there was such a faucet in the inventory and persisted till he found it in a back room. Then he determined that it would not work for me and directed me to another store. That clue led after three more stops to a store that searched their stock for the actual faucet stems that were worn out in mine so I could fix it and no need to tear out a wall or whatever. Every store I visited were extraordinarily kind and patient but Donelson Ace hardware and my final stop at Sanders industrial supply stood out in my search. read more

I LOVE ACE. Because well, I'm an Ace. But Look, this location, the older lady that works first shift... Short hair, small in stature.. RUDE! First, I could not get ANY help with deciding upon My purchases.. Unbelievable. Treated Me as if I was entirely stupid for not knowing what I needed. And I heard her speaking poorly of Me, basically making fun of Me. And then when I go to check out and I was STILL undecided, instead of politely helping Me, She cast Me to the side and waited on a line of Customers behind Me, which She treated with the Utmost Respect and cheerfully answered any questions that they had bidding them kindly as they walked out of the store. Not Me tho. Because I am younger? Because I am clearly new in Town? Idk. And idc. But a few of the customers in the store noticed and from the looks on their faces & demeanor, thought She was quite impolite as well. One Man My Age even walked Out without buying anything, shaking His Head as if to say "Well, If She isn't helping Her, or checking her out efficiently, Why would She Me? And then after I had gotten a rewards card and paid for for my purchases, after standing around looking lost forever, She called on Her pager and I heard Her say " We've got a 10 walking out the door! And the security guard ran up and asked to see My receipt etc. I will never go back to this particular ACE store ever again. Quite Disrespectful. read more

In this post-COVID era, customer service is hard to find. But WOW, this ACE hardware exceeds expectations. The gentlemen that work here do a great job at knowing their products and answering all questions. They even disassembled a grill for me to fit in my car. I am working on a very large project but I have now decided to drive out to Hermitage due to customers running around everywhere without masks. There is one employee with droopy pants that seems to always be there with his mask around his neck. I have purchased about $600 of paint there and I will need a lot more but having to get it matched at Lowes because during the last 2 visits I felt like I was in a Covid petri dish. I have always used my local Ace before moving to Donelson but not this one. Be careful out there. read more

I really like this store. The staff is really helpful; every time I go in, at least two employees ask me if they can help me, and that is such a refreshing change from the hardware megastores where employees are scarce. They usually have most everything I need from plumbing supplies to gardening to housewares. It also feels like going into a family business. About a year ago, my 4-year-old son went in with me. He wanted a gumball from the gumball machine near the register. I didn't have any coins with me, but one of the employees noticed, and gave him a quarter for the machine. Now, we always go there for our hardware needs, he always wants to tag along, and I always make sure to have a quarter in my pocket! read more

Every time I walk in the door someone says "what are we working on today?" and then takes me to whatever I am looking for. Being an artist I go in with a lot of weird requests and the staff goes above and beyond to help me figure out what I need. Rarely do I need anything that is not already stocked and once when I did, they ordered it for me. They also have an outstanding stock of nuts, bolts, screws and out of the ordinary hardware. I love this home town store. There's nothing like wandering around a big home improvement store looking for something for 20 minites (although I have gotten some great service in these stores, it's often hard to find someone to help you). Traveling across country I had a moving vehicle key that broke and made life extremely difficult. Heather at Ace made me a key that was quick, inexpensive, and easy. Something that the larger commercialized stores do not have the skill set to do. The whole team there was great and reminded me of my hometown ACE 2000 miles away. This is the new moved store, and I have family that works here. They have everything you need for building, down to the little random bolt or a gigantic peice or rope or something. This store is beyond useful, and the customer service is great . I will definitely be using this store next time I build something. read more

If you need hardware this is the place to go! The staff is always friendly, helpful, and will greet you at the door. as far as returns go I don't know what the previous poster had going on, but I have never had an issue with a return here. I have been going to this Ace for years. When they were in the older building, the staff seemed much friendlier and helpful. Today I went in to return some items and the employees just stared like they did not want to help and the cashier did not say a single word to me. I have experienced this vibe the past few times I have been there. I've had better experiences and would recommend Home Depot over this Ace because of the most recent visits and the employees. read more
