Paint is the easiest way to transform a room, but selecting a paint color is far from easy! Color is a reflection of the light and color around it it so a particular paint color can look vastly different when you paint it on your walls and it reflects the hardwoods, carpets, furniture, etc in the room. I'm pretty good at seeing the "color" and tone in a sample, meaning is the gray pulling blue, brown, sage, purple? After painting several large swatches on the walls, I felt the gray we chose was pulling too much blue so we went back to the store with the goal of finding the same level of saturation but a few spots over on the color wheel so it would have a brown base. Luke was working that evening and when I explained the intention, he chose a color he felt would meet our needs. He also recommended painting the sample color on large 2x3 sheets of paper so we could move the paper to all areas of the room and see it in different lighting conditions. He said he wasn't trying to get us to spend more money, he was making this suggestion because we mentioned how the colors seemed so off because the existing wall is an orange tan. Sure enough, when we painted the samples on white, and put the papers in the wall, we were able to see the color more realistically. The color he suggested ended up being the perfect greige (gray beige) that we were seeking. We came back a few days later to find a pure white for the trim and were running into the same challenges. There is no pure white because white definitely picks up on the colors around it. We were in luck because Luke was there again! We had narrowed it down to Chantilly Lace and Super White. Without telling him our choices, we asked him which white would show as true white against the greige. Now, there are dozens and dozens of whites. Instantly he said Chantilly Lace. We painted more white sheets, put them on the wall, looked at them at night and in the daylight against the greige walls and hardwood floors. Chantilly Lace was the unanimous decision. Now, before we saw Luke, there was someone else working who was not nearly as helpful. In fact, it seemed like he didn't want to answer any of our questions or assist at all when it came to trying to decipher colors and how they would appear. So I think we had several super experiences because of Marcus. We have several more rooms to go, and we will continue to come back to Dick's Color Center / Sherman Williams because of the great advice and fabulous experience working with Luke.

We've considered going back to Behr paint from Home Depot, but we keep coming back here due to great customer service. These buildings don't need that perfect satin finish or the exact shade choices that an interior room does. I didn't spend more than 4 minutes in the store due to the efficiency of the employee. We needed to have the house painted immediately per the home inspection. I was away on a work trip for several weeks in Eastern Oregon so my wife had to arrange the whole thing by herself. She picked out the colors and cordinated the appointment. I returned to a beautifully painted house. However, the painters only left us leftovers of 2 of 3 paints used. They did not leave us any extra for touchup for the main color - Benjamin Moore in Midnight Blue. When we had a new front door installed I needed some touch up paint to cut in around the door so I made a trip to Morgan Paint Co. They sold me the correct paint color after looking up the code. They tired selling me the right line of paint, as there were three levels. I went with what I thought was right, but when I got it home and used it, the color was correct, but it was the wrong level of glossiness. It was too flat and thus didn't blend in at all. I took the gallon of paint back and after a little more research, the crew at Morgan Paint Co. set me up with the correct paint, a low gloss this time. They were extremely helpful and exhcanged my paint with no hassles. Now my front door looks perfect! The price per gallon was a little high, but thanks to the quality of the paint and the high level or peraonal customer service I received, it was worth every penny.

My deck is calling for sealing before the rains. I use oil-based sealer-stains. My old product…read morechoice, Thompson's Water Seal, from a big box store, changed its formulation to a gel which is very slippery and not sealing. Miller has been my go-to, for paint, so I visited this location. I know things about furniture finishes and compatibility because I have made some of my own furniture. On interior and exterior home finishes, Miller knows more than me. The staff were very knowledgeable. What I learned is that stain-sealer over a different product does not work. They suggested a finish remover applied with water, including rain, letting it dry, then the new stain. They knew the strengths and weaknesses of different product choices. They even volunteered to look up and apply a discount. Miller has been in operation since 1890 and is employee owned!

Second time I've needed a custom paint match. This was much more difficult as the piece to be…read morematched was stained mahogany. I had some plain wood pieces that I wanted to blend in with the original. Kristin worked tirelessly to get just the right tone and tint even scrapping the first quart and starting over again. We finally settled on our best guess. Upon applying it at home, it turned out almost perfect. It didn't overpower the mahogany and complimented it well. Thank you so much.
