Tried the ramen and apps here with my colleagues in August and this rating is based on an overall vote among the group. The staff were very friendly, the atmosphere is really interesting--ex-college cafeteria, and the effort by owners is great. It is awesome that they source locally farmed for some ingredients. However, the food could use a bit of work. I had the traditional ramen bowl which had some vegetables and their in-house made fish cake. The fish cake really was not good. It was fishy tasting and just had the wrong texture. I highly suggest they just buy the Japanese fish cakes at the Asian market. Aside from the fish cake, the ramen bowl was meh. Nice to see a ramen shop that offers up vegetarian, vegan and even halal options. And they cook things separately to keep the integrity of the dietary restrictions. Think of this place as subway but with ramen. Choose a noodle, topping, broth and you're set! It was a touch on the spendy side but all good. This is also in the old Finlandia University building which the university closed 2 years ago. Nice to see them use the space for something good! The staff were friendly and service was quick! The ramen was good. A touch bland but miso can be -- and I just added a ton of the chili paste to mine and it was golden! i would def recommend it! Great stuff. I let my self-assumptions take over though. A premium bowl offers choices: type of broth, type of noodles, and the last choice-- '3 protein, 1 side' or '1 protein, 3 sides'. I didn't expect the protein portions to be large. Silly mistake on my part. I ordered triple port belly with bok choy. I picked up nearly 1/2 pound of pork belly with an ample serving of Chinese cabbage. Paired with a miso broth and their traditional noodles made for dinner and an ample serving for the next day's breakfast. Service was fast- really fast considering our party of 7 to-go order. 15 minutes from order to pickup. Wow. This was to-go, but the ambiance was a college cafeteria-type vibe. With such good food, I'd really not care if I ate inside. If in Houghton/Hancock, a must stop. read more

This is a WYSIWYG place. It's located in the cafeteria space of a dormitory at the former Finlandia University in Hancock, MI. As such, you go for the food, not the institutional ambience. The ramen is very good. My wife went with the special non-gluten free vegetarian option and I went with a pork special. These were fairly standard for ramen dishes in much larger cities. They were flavorful and not salty, which is a hallmark of most fly-by-night ramen houses (and cheaper dry ramen packages). I wouldn't put this ramen among the best I've had in Tokyo, or on the left coast, but we will certainly return monthly. read more

What a pleasant surprise in Hancock! Raman was very good - fresh, lots of options for proteins, broth and toppings - all fresh and great flavor! It is in an ex-cafeteria (glad the space is getting used!) so the "ambiance" is nothing special but the food makes up for it! read more
