I got the veggie Godzilla roll and the AAC Maki roll, they were seriously delicious! I'm pregnant right now and this helped curb my sushi cravings. Been wanting to try this place for a while and glad we did. My husband got the Curry Tonkatsu and it was also delicious. Sky Sushi in Houghton is a surprise. The staff are warm and welcoming. What the business lacks in its entry and cramped interior, it makes up for in very good food. The basic rolls are very good. Their signature rolls are excellent. The sashimi was very fresh and possessed depth of flavor. The Poke bowls were filling and tasty. Now the hours online are not accurate they are only open for 4 hrs 5 days a week from 4:30-8:30 and they get swamped with orders during that time and could be up to an hour or more wait and don't call before or after they won't answer! Our take-away food took over 100 minutes to come out. Meanwhile tons of people were being served while we are sitting outside waiting for our food. There were two teenagers taking orders and doing all they could to please guests. They were polite and almost uncomfortable for how things were progressing. The manager, however, had zero customer service experience--could not apologize for the long wait, could not offer our kids anything in the interim while we waited, basically made us feel like we were being unreasonable for being hungry and having to wait an hour and a half plus for takeaway food without being told how long it would take. When the food finally came out we were so upset that I cannot honestly say that the food made up for it. My 10-year-old said she almost threw up. Very unfortunate experience. Brand new place in Houghton and an awesome addition. Finally real sushi here! Had two apps and three rolls; all were delicious. Quick service, reasonably priced, and each dish was prepared very well. Houghton is very fortunate to have a place like this to go to. Each time I visit I try to order different items off the menu, and it's clear that I do have favorites that I return to. The prices do reflect the cost of shipping ingredients that are uncommon to the area. Still a lot cheaper that driving elsewhere to try the same foods. Sometimes I'll recommend Sky Sushi to friends and they say: "Oh, I don't eat raw fish." Then maybe try the teriyaki chicken, chicken curry, ramen, or various rolls that may not include fish. Not authentic Sushi and quite over priced, and not just for the area, it's pretty expensive. It's alright but not great. Actually the Sushi at the Econofoods Market place is better. My parents own a Japanese restaurant downstate in the metro-Detroit area, so I grew up eating lots of sushi. When I moved to the UP to attend college, I was beyond disappointed with every place I tried, even though many people have told me those places were "really good!" (they were very bad, actually...) Anyways, I was very skeptical when I heard a new sushi place was opening in Houghton, but I was also excited to give it a try. I knew it would be a hit or miss, and it ended up being a hit for me. The sushi rice was perfectly prepared, the fish was actually fresh, the shoyu ramen was very flavorful and filling, and the food was overall very delicious! The atmosphere is clean and cozy, and the servers are all very friendly. The prices are the only downfall, but to me it's very minor. You have to think about the demographics, and how expensive it is to have certain ingredients ship to the UP (especially the fish, it's not cheap). A little pricier than other Japanese places, but definitely worth it and still affordable. From their grand-opening day, I ate here every time I visited Houghton (from Marquette), so I was sad when I saw they were closed for a few months! But I hear they just opened back up, which means I will be coming for some sushi next week!!! read more

Very good sushi! Haven't tried anything yet that I don't like. Sometimes take out can take a long time (45 minutes), but it's worth the wait. I wish they would label sushi for take out and put them in individual containers because we usually order for multiple people and have a hard time figuring out which is which and some people have to eat from the same plate. read more

Like so many I was so hopeful when I saw a sushi restaurant opening in Houghton. It really hasn't disappointed! Since it's opened I've visited about once a week and taken my kids and many friends. The atmosphere is small but very elegant; it's very clean and everyone has been very friendly. The sushi chef wears traditional garb and works in view. They have about 7 tables and a bar with about 4 seats. They are a small family-operated business. I know that they have sometimes had long-ish wait times on take-out but I'd rather that than they churned out factory sushi. They were fairly prompt in the restaurant but I never go during rush times. Menu-I've attached scans. Of the things I've tried a few stand out that I would recommend: the house salad is a great choice for people who are leery of exotic food, traditional salad with a ginger dressing. Tuna tartar-amazing homemade tortilla-style chips with little chunks of tuna and avocado. Oyster shoot(shot)- if you like raw oyster you MUST try one of these, the flavors in it are incredible, probably my favorite menu item. Tonkotsu ramen - My kids, who are a bit unsure of sushi, love this; great for people who may not like to try new things. Sashimi combo - tastes as good as sashimi in a city and has the best presentation I've ever seen-beautiful! Godzilla - sushi roll with crunchy tempura on outside. With plans to return to the UP after some time in urban Minneapolis and Philadelphia, I was worried I'd miss the restaurants on offer in these cities. Fortunately Sky Sushi serves amazing sushi, period. Not amazing for a rural community, it's just good without any qualifiers. They also offer great ramen, the takoyaki is delicious. We recently tried their poke bowls and it was also excellent. Everything is up to par with what I'd expect to receive from a dedicated sushi restaurant, a specialty ramen-ya or purpose-built poke place in any major city. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because when we try to order take-out it can be a pain when they don't take orders until 11:30 am and it takes 30 minutes to make. This makes it hard for any professional who doesn't make their own schedule to coordinate lunch with meetings. If they would answer the phone before 11:30 that would make it easier. read more
