I've been on a kick of spontaneity lately and was spending some time with my best friend up in Longmont on a weekday and we found Shield Maiden while searching through local shops while enjoying some brunch. There was a tattoo I'd wanted that my friend wanted to match and we decided on the spot to see if we could get a couple of walk-in spots, and gave the shop a call. Long story short, we were able to snag a time with an artist named Tayler late in the afternoon, and she was such a joy to work with. The tattoos we got were fairly small (black and grey katanas about 3 and 4 inches between the two of us) and we were quoted 150 and 175, respectively, based on a size difference between the two. My friend also added on a small finger tattoo and had an old stick and poke refreshed for an extra $50. Tayler worked so quickly and her line work was excellent; I think she finished working with the both of us in a little under 1.5 hours. The shop's vibe is so welcoming and laid back, and the business itself, I learned, is women owned and operated, which I thought was super friggin cool! I cannot say how great these folks are! My fiancée got a tattoo from them last year which was a beautiful black with amazing detail, and I just got my first from Raleigh, who is a genuinely fun guy to have jabbing at your skin for a couple of hours. This tattoo shop is as good as it gets! I Went in with an idea and the amount of enthusiasm that Jules and Raleigh brought to the table are unparalleled to any other shop I had been to ( I went to 4 others with the same idea). Just as their name states they will do your tattoo As You Like It - with no pressure to get started and no fuss when asked to change the art. They listen to you and really try to understand what you would like to see in your completed piece. Just a week and a half after walking in the first time they had my piece ready to go (we changed it pretty drastically twice) and I was getting tattooed. I had a six hour session that went by rather quickly and they were super awesome about letting me relax a bit afterwards and ensuring I was good to go before I went on my way. While I was getting inked another client had came in raving about this studio in the same way I have.....in fact, he ended up getting two tattoos before he left. The shop is tucked away in North Boulder but is definitely worth finding. I can not say enough good things about the way I was treated, the art work they do, or they atmosphere they provide. If you are looking to get a tattoo and want to go to a place that will listen to you and ensure you get exactly what you want, then As You Like It Tattoo will take GREAT care of you. This place is incredible! I got my first tattoo here and I'm no artist but Jules helped me draw and redraw my tattoo until it was perfect, and even helped me add parts that I didn't think of to make it extra perfect. I was moving out of the country in a few days so she took 7+ hours with me in one day to finish the whole thing, letting me have as many breaks as I needed. This was August 2013 and now my tattoo is still full of color and very bold. I get compliments on it all the time!
