A friend recommended this place to get my kid's ears pierced. My kid has been begging for years and it was finally the time to give in. I had a bad experience with my piercings years ago so I wanted to make sure my kid's experience was good. Liz was great with my daughter. Took it slow, answered all her questions, and addressed her fears and concerns. They used a very small needle. So much better and less traumatic than those guns. A piercing gun hurt me years ago so I wanted to avoid that route. They had helpful advice with after care. Things I'd never heard before like no swimming. Some of it was a little extreme, like no wet hair. Do your own research and see what your comfortable with. I just made my kid take a really good shower after swimming, focusing on getting clean water on the ears, and she didn't get any irritation or infections. read more

I was a couple minutes late for my appointment which I KNOW is super annoying but no one batted an eye and I got checked in quickly. I wasn't rushed to pick out jewelry, the differences in material and pricing was explained to me and all of my questions were answered. I picked a piece for my philtrum piercing then Jay took me into the room to get me prepped. Jay explained everything before he did it and again as he was doing it so I wouldn't be surprised by anything. The inside of my lip was a bit tough to poke through but he got the piercing done quickly and with minimal discomfort. He talked time through the aftercare and answered any questions without rushing me (again, I had been late to my appointment) and I left feeling totally confident in the work he had done. Tried to get a tattoo here a few months ago and was very specific in my design (it was going to be an inch tall black outline only so would have taken probably 15 minutes). I called and confirmed that I could walk in, came in 5 minutes later and there was not a single other customer in the place. The tattoo artists were tattooing each other and told me to come back in a few hours. I called a few hours later and was told to come in and I asked if they were sure and they said yes. I came in 10 minutes later and they were tattooing each other again and asked me to wait for an hour. I said no and walked out of there. I came in super embarrassed because I needed help removing a piercing (which I got a different -apparently awful- studio) which was super infected. DO NOT GO HERE. I scheduled a lip piercing for today and when I showed up at 11 they were late to open. When I got inside they told me that they had to reschedule my piercing because their piercer recently got covid. The main guy told me that she got covid because she was being stupid... I am fully vaccinated but I still don't want to get a piercing from a shop that is so irresponsible. I asked if they left me a voicemail or tried to communicate with me before hand and they said no. I asked for a refund and one guy was rude but said yes to my $10 refund. I chose Tribal Rites because they were supposed to be reputable, and they have been in Boulder for years (i'm from Boulder). Having worked in the tattoo / piercing industry myself, I could just tell that this was a toxic shop. We'll see if I ever get my refund, not that $10 is going to break the bank. read more

Lovely fun workers my friend got a tattoo and this lovely lady re-pierced my belly button piercing as it closed up and was infected. Reviewing a few months later (now) because my healing process has been so smooth never got infected again and it looks as if it's almost fully healed or is fully healed. I wanted to buy a piece of jewelry and the man working said he wouldn't sell it to me because he wouldn't take 1 minute to help me put it in (it's been pierced for years). I would have been more understanding if they actually were closing up, but they were meant to be open for another 1.5 hours-- but for whatever reason he had no time for me whatsoever. Told me to come back tomorrow, the whole exchange left a bad taste in my mouth and I don't think I'll be coming back here. Again, I know nothing about the tattoo artists themselves. But the way I was approached by whoever was working the counter last night really bothered me. This is expensive jewelry, and it was like they just didn't want me as a customer. My best friend moved here recently and I sent her here, then decided to swing by during her piercing appointment to see if they had anything available for one of my own. Taphas set me up with the soonest appointment and got me in just a bit later that day. Jay was my piercer and added a second helix piercing to my ear - he made the process quick and easy. I was already set to see Nate F. the next day for my newest tattoo as I have been seeing him periodically over 7 years for different pieces. The atmosphere is professional but friendly, the shop is a nice little space that's kept super clean. It's been great building a relationship with an artist over the years and it keeps me coming back because the whole experience is a huge part of getting a tattoo, not just the art. I definitely throw out their name if you are looking for a piercing or tattoo as everything I've had done has come out wonderfully and both getting in and getting through the (sometimes very painful) appointment is never a problem. I recently bought a gold hoop earring from Tribal Rites. Staff was friendly and I was told the hoop was 14kt gold. I ended up purchasing the hoop and it was completely tarnished after not even a month of wearing it. Even if the earring was only gold plated it wouldn't tarnish that fast. I took the earring back only to have the staff tell me it was "gold plated" which wasn't mentioned when I was purchasing. Even if it was gold plated it shouldn't tarnish after a month. Their solution was to offer me 25% off of a new purchase after I had already spent 100 dollars on a fake gold hoop. read more

Been here three times with my girlfriend, once went really well (only reason this has 2 stars instead of 1) and the other two to set up an appt for a piercing and to get the actual piercing. When setting up the appt the guy setting the appt seemed irritable and unfriendly making it just a weird experience. I get it, worked customer facing jobs before so didn't really think of it too much. When going to get the piercing however, we were greeted with a very unpleasant gentleman. My girlfriend thought we left her purse in my car and asked if an ID on file would suffice for ID, to which we were spoken down to very condescendingly (which the purse situation is on us so a simple "no, sorry" would've been fine, but this was his demeanor the whole time). Came here for my first ever tattoo with Amanda! I was nervous, I was giddy, but she made me feel very comfortable. I got the tattoo on my right side, which I have heard from multiple people that it is a painful spot to get it, but it really wasn't bad. Throughout the whole time she kept asking me if I was still okay, how I was doing, and just checking in, which I really appreciated. She was quick, her lines are straight and crisp (which is the main reason why I chose her), and she gave me clear instructions on how to take care of my tattoo. I got my cartilage pierced about a year ago (can't remember by whom) and just got a tattoo from Kevin. I absolutely love tribal rites because the employees are incredibly helpful, and both my tattoo and piercing turned out beautiful. Cleanliness: The place is VERY clean. One employee even gave me hand sanitizer after I coughed into my hand (Yeah, I'm one of those gross people...). Piercing: I'm very paranoid and tend to think every piercing is infected. It took my piercing a really long time to heal (I think the time was actually pretty normal, but, again, paranoid) I went in more than once to ask about whether or not my healing time was abnormal. The staff was very friendly and reassured me and gave me tips about piercing care and made me feel a ton better about it. Tattoo: I wish I could upload a picture but alas my camera is out of commission. This is only my third tattoo, but my second one of words. Kevin at tribal rites did a beautiful job and actually wrote out the word by hand and came up with a beautiful and unique cursive style. The last one I got from another place in Boulder the artist just printed something off of a word font and traced it. I loved that Kevin took the time to think of something unique even though I was a walk in, and, I think it's very skilled to be able to freehand something like that. I went for my first tattoo, talked to artist David Ronin. I showed him a photo of what I wanted, explained it a bit, went in again a few days later. He didn't listen to what I said, I told him the reference photo had flowers, and that I wanted everything BUT the flowers. He said "thank God, I thought this would be long and complicated." Not the best feeling, but not a real problem. He draws his design on, I'm nervous as hell and go with what he drew the first time. Consider the unappealing position and idea my fault. Regardless, the final outcome is disproportionate, has uneven lines, there's shading outside of lines, and he even scarred me. Shading is very lo-fi and patchy. He never asked what style I was going for, he just put some crap on my arm and called it a day. I contacted a manager, he was helpful at first, told me that he agrees that my tattoo is not quality. He started to help, told me to contact him for an appointment to fix it. I did so with no reply. I expressed that I didn't expect poor quality of work from a 'reputable' shop, and that I didn't want to go around bad mouthing their choice in artists. Here we are several months later, I'm having to work around a crappy tattoo without actual help from the shop. I would research artists thoroughly because Tribal Rites is not doing so themselves. I also would not recommend the Boulder location for a first tattoo. Even if they offer to fix it for free like they have in the past (with no reply after I gave my availability), I would not trust them to. This has been a lifelong mistake. read more

I got my ears pierced by Chris, who was super patient, explained the whole process to me, made sure I was happy with the hole placements, and did a perfect job, as far as I can tell anyway. Super friendly, good natured, very knowledgeable. You just know he loves his job, and he is exactly the type of person you want jabbing you with sharp objects. This shop is very hygienic - I loved how crazy clean they were from start to finish. It was $50 for the two piercings and earrings (plus tip), and I walked in, no appointment.
