Shine has been with us for our son since the beginning of his diagnosis with Autism, and with the experience of hair cuts being extremely tough. They were always patient and still managed to do an amazing job every time. Now after some time of getting regular cuts with them, he is as excited to get his haircut as he is for the park. They are still mindful of him masking, and are still sensory sensitive with him throughout the experience so it remains a positive one. We are incredibly grateful for this place and all the staff who really provide such a critical service for all kiddos, but especially ones who really struggle with this process. I took my son to Shine once about 3-4 years ago and never went back. The owner Jennifer was extremely rude and ridiculous. After reading comments both recent and older, it seems nothing has changed. The fact that they made a FB post a few months ago asking people to leave more positive reviews says a lot. Besides for Jennifer's attitude, her hair cutting skills are mediocre. When people mention the "old blonde" I know exactly who they are referring to. I hope Jennifer realizes that 99% of the bad reviews are because of her. She also needs to take accountability and stop blaming the customers. Jennifer, thank you for your response. It only confirms your passive aggressive behavior & the lack of accountability I was referring to. Claiming you have 12,000 clients makes it confusing as to why you would need to ask people on Facebook for validation & positive feedback in the first place. Really bad service!! I called to let them know about how bad the hair cut was and at first Jennifer was "nice "she was aware of the bad job she did .she said she had a busy schedule so I request a refund so I could take her somewhere else (I was just not happy with the service and didn't even want to go back ) after that she rude and that she was busy and just hang up Though they did refound me not even what I had paid in the first place they only re founded 17 dollars so now I have to pay out of pocket for their mistake to get my daughters hair fix hopefully with someone that actually knows how to do their job ..will not be going back and won't be recommending her business read more

Please read the negative reviews before you book. Please. Jen has a hard time taking responsibility for anything and she made me feel like I made this a truly awful experience. That it was my fault. I've been taking my son to Jen for a couple of years now and I will NEVER go back. My son was so upset while getting his hair cut that by kicking his feet against the airplane his shoes had fallen off and he was repeatedly hitting his head on the airplane. He isn't the easiest cut because he is ticklish. But this was next level and Jen was so harsh about it. It was clear she was pissed at my kid. And that her motivation was to finish his haircut and NOT about his feelings or mine. I got so upset by his screaming and crying that I told Jen to stop and I was taking off his cape. She was incredibly rude and shamed me. She told me that she's never had a parent end a cut halfway through. Then I could tell she was pissed at me too. I offered to help them and was told that it was like "illegal" or something to help them because I don't have a license to cut hair-I was NOT trying to cut his hair. I felt shamed into letting her trim a bit more hair before we left. I had never felt so uncomfortable with the treatment towards my son and me. I was so upset that I put my kiddo in the car and the went back in to talk with her. Basically she told me that she has thousands clients and that my son's haircut would give her a bad reputation because she hadn't finished. Said nothing about him being so upset. In my mind, a reputation of being rude, condescending and having a "know it all attitude" is a much worse reputation. She was someone who just wanted to finish a cut so it reflected better on her. I will NEVER go back there. She. Was. Absolutely. Horrible. I wish I had read the reviews before I ever took my son there. Please, don't make the same mistake. read more

After being a customer of 3.5 years consistently bringing my child here for his haircut I will no longer support this business. I arrived to his appointment to find a van with homeless people parked outside only two spots over from where I had parked. A woman got out of the vehicle and proceeded to get undressed in the parking lot and I could see needles on the floor of the van. I immediately unbuckled my child to walk inside (14 minutes early) to prevent my kiddo from seeing anything further. Jennifer was extremely rude and unprofessional and said next time I would not be allowed to walk in early despite trying to find a safe space to retreat to while waiting QUIETLY with my son in their WAITING AREA. I will never support a business that doesn't support women and children's safety. Was I in immediate danger- no, but do I want my child to see a half naked woman and paraphernalia? Absolutely not, and anybody with lack of understanding or ability to be a decent human being does not deserve my money. To add- this is not the first time she has been rude towards me, my significant other, or my mother in law. Long story short I did not stay for the appointment and decided to leave, no point in paying for a haircut with hostility. We will happily find a more professional environment to take our son to for his haircuts from here on out, and I would not be surprised if there were other reviews with complaints about her attitude. I have never heard of this place until my DIL mentioned it. Of course I do not have little ones at home besides my Grandson. She heard of this place from a recommendation of a co-worker who had recently taken their toddler in for a hair cut, and said she wouldn't go any where else. My DIL made an appointment for my Grandson during her work hours, and I ended Bing the one who took him in to his appointment time the other day. I have to say, I was so impressed from start, to finish. My Grandson is 1 1/2, and we placed him in the yellow car she has. He loves cars, so he was happy from the get go. Next thing she did was showed him her clippers so he could get used to them. He didn't even care. She immediately went to work, and worked her magic. During the cut, she brought out these magnets that she places on the steering wheel in case they start to get bored, which was a nice distraction. She knows he stuff with little ones, and Eugene area really needed a place like this. I am glad she has this place, and would gladly take my Grandson back. She also has a fire truck, and a pink airplane. Also very personable, and reasonably priced. read more

Zero stars. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. I have been here before and the employees are extremely rude. Yes, even to kids. Just got charged for not being able to make my appointment. Child hair cut. Came 10 minutes early and owner was nasty to me and my autistic toddler. She was aggressive and angry telling me she could make us leave and accusing me of being rude when she was. I also stated it was about my son and just kept it coming. She threw his hair all around including on me. I kept the appointment because he needed a haircut and she would have charged me anyway for missing the appointment . I will never go back and I was shocked at how bad she could treat a mom and a child with just a misunderstanding with the time difference I showed up. By the way she was not even ceasing her aggression until I started to pray out loud cuz I did not know what else to do. Make your choice for yourself I will never go back and I was very deeply offended and upset with the way I was treated especially my little guy she hurt him and he already had a fear of haircuts this is supposed to be one of the best places to go will not go back ! Employees of an business are the face of a company. If an employee can not act in an appropriate manner to customers and make inappropriate comments directly to children, this reflects really poorly on a business. Especially when the company owner defends said employee. Regardless of the customer the employee should know how to show some professionalism. read more

We had two amazing experiences- one was a first time haircut that Jen worked in on top of her other clients. I totally thought there would be tears and resistance, but it was just so much fun! Jennifer is so good with antsy kids. She is quick and friendly. Scheduling can be difficult, but that just shows how great they are. They have cute chairs that kids love, a taxi, car, airplane, fire truck maybe? Anyway, kids like it and they come out with cute haircuts. Price is very reasonable. read more

I was placed on a cancellation list for my sons haircut. Shines called me and left a voicemail to call back to be schedule as someone cancelled. I called back 8 minutes later and it rang and rang until I was met with a barely intelligible voicemail greeting that didn't allow voicemails to be left (Call and see) I finally reached someone and was scoffed at because of how much the phone rang! I explained I was returning a call and the woman on the line scoffed at the idea of calling a establishment of business during business hours. She stammered about incredulously after I stated that there is no way to leave a voicemail. She stated that it was "ridiculous to call" that many times. So it went down like this. I called and made an appointment for 2 PM. I called at 2:06 and said "I'm on the way, I estimate 3min." The lady on the other end was very agitated. I had a weird feeling after hearing her very cold and rude tone of voice. We got to the salon, running to get there, my daughter arrives very excited, we walk in. After about a minute A lady with long curly blond hair begrudgingly makes her way over with a face expression like, I hate you and my life sucks and you should just leave written all over it. She says "you're 10 minutes late"and I say "yes I called" she goes "yeah....that was 10 minutes ago!" I said "it was four minutes ago and I'm starting to feel very uncomfortable with this tone as my children are standing right here,this kind of adult talk should have been make over the phone" Silence.... I ask "Should we just leave" She says "it's just gonna affect the next person and they're gonna have to wait and you guys should be wearing masks." I stated again "should we just leave....I'm really starting to feel very uncomfortable....this is my daughters hair.....you didn't even greet us with a hello or welcome to the salon or anything that made her feel comfortable" She says "you need to leave, you don't have masks and....." I interrupt. Wow ok my daughter was looking forward to this and now she's crying. my daughter is now cowering away and starting to cry....she runs out of the building. She's 9 years old and had so much adversity in the past year and I was doing this to brighten her day. I feel the need to stand up for her as I'm her mother and the way this lady approached our family was so inappropriate. if I was her!!!! on the phone I would've said we have a late policy or we can't fit you in today and by the way please bring some masks. Nothing,no communication but utter disrespect. We will not be going back there ever again. Thank goodness for my friend who owns a barber shop she got us right in and saved the day.
