Wonderful!! My regular hairdresser had a baby and is out on maternity leave. I was in a panic because my hair was in A STATE (seriously -- it was DEFCON 1 up in there). Realizing that it was going to be a solid 6 weeks until I could get another hair cut, I consulted the Yelps and they led me to Shine. Let me tell you how awesome this place is. Every facet of my experience with Shine was, in a word, perfection. From my phone call, begging for an appointment (which they took cheerfully and got me in to see Ariel right away) to my arrival at the salon, to the shampoo, to my cut, there wasn't a detail that was overlooked and not a moment that I wasn't made to feel special. First off, the space is just beautiful. Housed in a storefront in downtown Ossining, it's an open, airy place with lots of wood and exposed brick; gorgeous. I was given a bottle of spa water (which they make there) with watermelon and mint (delightful on a hot August day) that I could sip while I waited ... which wasn't more than about 45 seconds. Ariel greeted me and took lots of time talking to me about what I liked, what I didn't, taking note of my hair and how it grows, etc. I got shampooed (which included a super-relaxing scalp massage--OMGSONICE) and Ariel got started. She is a MASTER of precision and saw to things with the most exacting detail. My cut is FAN-TASTIC. I love it love it love it. There wasn't a single thing about my experience with Shine that I could make better. read more

Overall, I was not satisfied, but I may try this place again and my experience there was not bad. I have pros and cons. Pros: staff was friendly, place looked clean, Cons: $60 for a mani/pedi, no nail dryer, one nail was already messed up by the time I left my parking space, 5 nails were messed up by the time I got home. I live about 6 minutes away. No tipping on credit card, did not tell me that shellac mani would take longer and was not available. read more

I've only been to Shine for brazilian wax with RUTH. when i began brazilian waxing, i needed to find the BEST in my area. I found Shine (specifically, Ruth) in the Best of Westchester, as she's been voted #1 repeatedly. When I learned that Vanessa Williams has Ruth do her wax, I was sold! Ruth uses only chocolate wax, because of its natural anti-inflammatory properties. So not only does the entire experience smell like brownies are baking, but it stings less afterward and results in less irritation to that sensitive area. She is extremely professional and quick. And most of all, she is very sanitary. she never re-uses a waxing stick or double dips. It costs $60 for existing clients each time, which is expensive but worth it. It is a little more (maybe $80?) for first timers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. read more

I went to Shine Salon for a hair trial for my upcoming wedding. Immediately upon entering I was greeted warmly and brought a cup of coffee. I have curly hair, so stylist wanted to set my hair (wash, scrunch and put under blower) before styling. Staff kept checking in on me while my stylist disappeared for 45 mins and helped two other customers. I brought pictures in like every bride and my stylist was very personable. She worked on my hair for a half hour and the back looked fantastic. Unfortunately, the front was pulled too tight, was too curly and didn't resemble the photograph. I politely asked to rework the front and stylist started talking me into the work she had done, and was not willing to tweak the front. Other customers and staff kept commenting on how great the back looked so I started thinking I was wrong and it would grow on me. We took pictures. I brought different bridal pins to try in my hair during the trial. Stylist tried two of the three and we both liked one. The third was a headband, but if it was amazing beadwork. If i loved it, I knew I would order the clip version directly from vender. I asked stylist to hold it up, as if it was a clip, and take pictures. She refused saying the headband was a bad idea and the other clips were better. Looking back, I should have insisted but didn't feel i should have too. After appointment, I went home and showed my mom, sister, friends and coworkers my hair trial results. Everyone started out telling me it looked "nice" and then commented on how great the back looked. After I said I wasn't happy with it, their response was, "What a relief!" Not the response a bride wants on her wedding day!! Overall- other staff were friendly, but my stylist was difficult to work with and unwilling to work with me to create the look I wanted. This mistake cost me $185 for the trial and two trips to NY from CT. Obviously someone else is doing my hair for my wedding. =) read more

Nice salon and helpful staff as a whole. Had haircut and colored by Song. She's amazing!! I told her how I handle my hair daily (absolutely no more than 10 min will be spent on my hair daily, at gym 5 days/wk and need to pull into ponytail) and she was able to deliver a gorgeous cut and color. I've been getting compliments non-stop. My issue is not too many stylists can cut my hair in the way that I can maintain on my own. I would say that Song is one of 3 best stylists in 15 years; I've lived all over the country. I've recommended Song to other friends and will be back in a few months. Thanks!! read more

I moved up to Ossining a few years ago and walked past the salon almost every day. It looked so cute inside and had pretty good reviews. I was in desperate need of a haircut. My usual girl was located in Brooklyn (where I used to live) and it was just a little to far to travel there for the haircut. So I decided to give Shine a try. The receptionist was super nice and everyone seemed so friendly...except for the guy who cut my hair. He seemed so nervous and soooooo preoccupied with the high school girl sitting next to me getting her hair done for prom. The hair stylist barely talked to me. I (sadly) was not to impressed with my haircut. I went home and ended up cutting my bangs shorter myself. I so badly wanted to really really like this place...but I will not be going back. read more

I've been going to Shine (Dawn in particular) for the past year and have been SO happy with my haircuts. The salon is beautiful and staff is always so nice. I recently got married and Dawn did my hair for my wedding. I got married on a warm day in June and took a chance and wore my hair down and wavy - it looked PERFECT and stayed all day & night, I couldn't believe it! Dawn even called me ahead of time and recommended that I ask my florist for a certain type of flower and we could try to put it in my hair the day-of to keep my front layers out of my face. The flower ended up looking amazing, I couldn't have been happier with my hair or the service. One of those popular 'unknown' gems that is always booked by word of mouth and the same clientele. From hair to nails to Brazilians every need is expertly sated. After checking in you'll soon find a cup of coffee or tea in your hand with snacks and desserts in reach. The employees are very friendly and you get a sense of continuity from them that shows a good relationship between clients and staff. My haircut was exactly right and the master hair stylist offered to trim my unruly beard which has been vexing me forever. I must say I looked like Crowe from the movie 'Gladiator'. (Yeah, right.) But close enough that it didn't matter, so says my wife. I can't vouch for the Brazilians but I was reassured that the store has been voted one of the best in the 'Best of Westchester' magazine. I treated myself to a spa pedicure and massage at my wife's behest and found myself almost staggering out of store. And I swear on my soul that after I got into my car I discovered I had put my sweat pants on backwards! Yeah, that good. The quality of work is good but this place is way overpriced. The shampoo girl was really nice but everyone else did not make you feel all that welcomed. It was also not made clear that if they blow out your hair after it is cut, it is an extra charge. I have never experienced this and it definitely rubbed me the wrong way--I can't wrap my head around it. I will not be returning and am in search of a different salon. This salon which is located in a beautiful space with exposed brick offers exceptional services where they seem to be difficult to find (north of NYC and even harder to locate north of White Plains). I tried different services - shellac manicure, pedicure, eye brow waxing and lash dip. It is easy to understand why Shine has been named year after year in Westchester Magazine's Best of issues. The services are top notch and the staff is both skilled and professional. The only thing I do recommend is you have to book early enough to get the time you want. I'm fairly new to the area and found this place on Yelp. After having had a baby not too long ago, I was in dire need of a mommy makeover - my hair was too long and scraggly, and the color was quite sad. I made an appointment with Song, and I have to say, I'm overjoyed that I did! When I got to the salon this morning, we realized there was a miscommunication regarding whether I was getting both cut and color (I thought) or just cut. The team at Shine worked through it and did an amazing job in accommodating me on the day before Thanksgiving, a notoriously busy day, indeed! Song talked me through some ideas about my color, and she went to work, creating what I must say is a blond masterpiece. She did balayage with both light and low tones, and some baby blonde foils, finishing everything off with a great healing conditioner treatment. The cut is amazing too - my hair feels ten pounds lighter and more voluminous. The whole team there was super helpful, and the salon is really pretty aesthetically. Price-wise, you get what you pay for, right? It wasn't inexpensive, but then again, I was there for four hours and came out looking like a Hollywood star, so I'd say it's well, well worth it!! The people at the salon are super friendly, and very attentive... However, my hair did not turn out how I envisioned. I went in with light blonde hair wanting to refresh/lighten my blonde, and came out with dirty blonde/brassy hair. They curled my hair at the salon (curling hair always hides mistakes/uneven color) so even though I did not get the blonde I went in with,or wanted I thought it looked ok at the moment. AFTER getting home and straightening my hair to really see how it was colored, I notice I have a copper band around my head, it does not flow "naturally" as the lady stated it would. I now have to tie my hair up to hide the mess, and look for another salon that can fix my hair. I was excited to get my hair colored here due to the reviews, but I regret it. I did not get my monies worth out of this visit at all!!!! Never again. read more

Simply stated, they are LIARS about the price. I had a haircut and was told it would be $175, but that the next time it would be $100. The next time, they tried to charge me $175 and I balked about it. I have not received my credit card statement nor is the charge posted online yet. If they attempt to charge me $175, I will ask the credit card company to charge it back to them. read more

I have been to Shine Salon years ago when they were upstairs to the current location and the waxes were the best. Lorraine made you feel real comfortable and she was great. I have been looking for a place in Ossining to go get a Shellac manicure and they came up on the web. So I figured since I use to go there why not try them again. The receptionist was really friendly and sweet and very professional but when I went to start my services I went to the back of the store and the person who did my pedicure didn't make you feel welcomed and then she started what I figured was the worse pedicure I ever received. It lasted about 20 minutes and the cost for that was $ 38.00. Not worth the money. Then we went off to get the Shellac manicure and I have had them before and when I got home the polished all bubbled up and the manicure that is suppose to go along with the cost never took place. Boy was I really disappointed and sorry but I will not be going back to them. read more
