I should start by saying that I am used to receiving a high level of care with my hair - it's long and curly and can be frizzy and awful in the wrong hands. She took me that morning, and was attentive and thoughtful; I was looking for a change, and she was as creative as I wanted to be. Gorgeous, rich color- just the right amount of red! Great experience! I have wavy/curly/frizzy hair that was in need of a hair cut and Pat did a beautiful job. All the staff are friendly and passionate about hair care. Pat gave me recommendations on how to maintain my hair and scalp to keep it healthy which I really appreciated. Whitney (the super cute dog) was very sweet and slept while I got my hair done. I felt like all the woman were so welcoming and getting my hair done here wasn't a chore, but a fun experience! I was changing my hair color from blond to dark reddish. Intense! I knew exactly what I wanted and they tried to talk me into something a bit different (like all salons do, lol) but they did end up listening to me. The color turned out great!!! My only complaint was the price - $100.00 or so for the color, which seemed pretty normal. The trim was ridiculous though. $60.00 for a trim! I have long, straight hair and all she did was trim off about a quarter inch. I didn't change up the style and she didn't do layers or anything. I had a great experience the first time I went for a trim with Kathleen. The owner and staff were very friendly and I like the products. However, the second time I went in Kathleen tried to convince me to cut my hair short and dye it darker after I told her I was trying to grow it out. She was very pushy and I finally let her take a few inches off, I went home very upset because it was not the style I wanted at all and she was very pushy. read more

Finally tried this spot and so glad I did! Atmosphere is cool and laid back, which is so different for a hair salon. It's actually in a house and they had Christmas lights and songs playing and their resident dog who is a sweetheart. I was offered eggnog in addition to tea/water etc. I felt right at home here! My haircut looks so great! I also got (gently) convinced to finally color my greys and I'm so glad I did! Color is natural looking but also somehow my hair looks healthier?! I came in just to fix my hair color, did NOT want a hair cut. Left with the worst hair cut I've ever gotten, the layers are not even and I can't even put my hair up into a pony. I've been growing out my bangs for months and she gave me bangs again. I highly recommend this gem. Lovely, eclectic, and comfortable location with wonderful Aveda hair and cosmetic products, plus fun jewelry and accessories. The stylists work collaboratively, giving each other advice and supporting one another's ideas. I came in for a quick haircut, but was unhappy with my hair color from another location, and before I knew it I was walking out with great color and a great haircut. Olivia "fixed" the color beautifully, and Pat gave me a wonderful haircut that looks great blown out or curly. Plus, Olivia did a quick mini-makeup touchup before the "big reveal." Just called them today for the first time and they were able to schedule me in right away. YES!!! Had the ladies there tone down my doo from the awful black hair color experiment I did last year back to my natural medium brown hair color. Plus got rid of all the annoying grey. A little pricier than expected, but considering it was a multi process undertaking, I'm very satisfied with the results. PLUS the staff was very friendly and knew their stuff. Then the entire time she was working on my hair, she continuously pushed the hair products. I have never had that happen before at a hair salon. Unfortunately, I"m going to have to change my rating for Sparx, since the last time I went there the quality of service dropped significantly. To make the appointment, I called and left a message on the answering machine (this is often the case at Sparx); I never got a return phone call.So on the day I wanted a haircut, I called and was told they could fit me in in the late afternoon. About an hour later, they called and asked if I could come in sooner. When I told them I couldn't, they said fine. But when I got to the salon, they told me that they weren't ready, and encouraged me to come back in 20 minutes or so. Not a great start--first they wanted me to come in sooner, then later. Then, when I did return, I found that the salon was being staffed by only one person, the owner, who had to divide her time between me and another client, literally interrupting one haircut to work on the other. The resulting haircut was only so-so, and the whole experience was kind of stressful--exactly what you don't want from a haircut. Adding insult to injury, I emailed the owner at the email on Sparx's website to convey my disappointment-and never heard a word back. I guess what I'd say now about Sparx is that it truly is a small business, and I'm no longer sure of the owner's commitment to that business. On this day Sparx had the feel of a place that the owner was still operating, but wasn't really interested in maintaining a standard of quality--it's almost like it was a hobby for her--and wasn't really sure she wanted to keep it running at all. I think I'd rather spend my money at a place which is determined to make itself as good as it can be, rather than just good enough to sustain itself. read more
