    Shinwa Fried Rice

Went back to indulge some more! The portions are fair, and will leave you full! Tried the Shinwa mixed fried rice (with beef chicken, shrimp). It is pretty standard fare, and reasonably priced at $8.75. Their fried rice dishes are more of an individual dish rather than to be shared with a group, which differs from the traditional Asian restaurants back in the GTA. Definitely catering to the student population here! I also tried the salt and pepper deep fried calamari, and it was awesome! The flavors are there, and is just a good rendition of one of my favorite dishes! It has garnishings like carrot, onion, pepper, etc, and was fresh. Even though it is listed in the appetizer section, it should be a main dish! Be sure to try this one!

3 star (disappointing) food + super slow service = 2 star experience The food here was incredibly mediocre and the service was the slowest I've ever had experienced in the plaza - to order, to get our food (literally just pepper beef and vegetables), and to pay. I can accept slower service during a rush or when having a dish that inherently takes longer, but this was way beyond normal. The vegetables were lackluster and looked like something out of a frozen bag from Walmart. The carrots were undercooked, making them much harder than the pepper and onions and uncomfortable to eat together. Both our vegetables and beef were soaked in an average, bland sauce.

We only ordered two dishes, Vegetable Delight and Beef with Black Pepper. However, the two dishes came with pretty much similar sauces and vegetables. The beef dish contained more vegetables than meat. Service was slow, the waitress came to serve us after we took the seat after around 10min. Apparently they needs more hands.

Good Hakka (read: Indian, I don't believe that "Hakka" food has anything to do with actual Hakka food in China) style Chinese food. Lots of South Asians come here to eat. Try the Manchurian Chicken or the Chili Chicken. The paneer masala is another Indian twist on a Chinese takeout classic, cubes of paneer battered and fried, then finished in a wok with other ingredients. Chili pakora is a good vegan option. This place was super busy when I went. The waiters were still friendly and topped us off with water frequently, so I'd say service was quite good, especially by Chinese restaurant (and plaza) standards. Food wasn't very quick to come to the table but its probably because it was a full house at the time with four or five people lined up to get take out as well, so it's understandable.

Shinwa is one of the best places in the plaza for quick and cheap takeout Chinese food in my opinion! I like getting their daily special (Manchurian shrimp with steamed rice) - the total after tax comes out to less than $10 and it's really filling. The service for takeout is also fast. I think I waited less than 10 minutes at peak dinner time. Overall I would recommend for a quick meal near UW.

This place is a surprise when it comes to Hakka Chinese cuisine! I've Had Hakka food from a lot of different places. But from here it was fresh, you could tell they take their time to make each dish. The taste was amazing and spicy- just the way I like it! It is my favorite Hakka place!

Guys, they charged me for making my food a little more spicy without informing of the extra charge. Upset. Didn't even know till I came home

Food is good, but the service is extremely slow. Come if you're looking to taste food. Definitely not if you are hungry.

The chili chicken is my favorite thing to eat in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. If you've never had it do yourself a favor and try it out.

So I haven't been back here since I was in U Waterloo…read more This place had selection but now with take out its limited to a menu. Ordered the braised fish with tofu and chicken leg with cumin. I don't think I would order the chicken again it's like 75%dry chili and 25% chicken. And it under fills the container (I only bought it because the lady showed me the container -but frankly I'm still hungry with a heartburn from the oil+chili. I feel like I paid 15$ for dried chilies). The braised fish with tofu and chilies. Um there were burnt chillies on top. It's not fungus. Like it was charred black. Greasy overall (probably the way it's supposed to be made??) The taste is okay but I just found it cheap on the chicken protein, sells more chilli than protein. Pricewise it was 30$ after tax it could be cheaper. This is one of the more authentic places but no vegetable dish options. But it's time to help small businesses. This place takes cash and debit. So lend them a hand. I've had takeout that left me hungry and very uncomfortable. Help! (I just want to also note I experienced some food poisoning symptoms 48hours after eating take out here)

Overpriced bad chinese food with terrible service…read more I came here with a group of friends and we were discussing what to order. We were asked three times if we were ready to order. The third time the server said "talk talk talk don't order". We haven't even had a chance to go through the entire menu. The menu is extremely disorganized. I've never seen a menu organized with the type of meat and vegetables at the end. We ordered a soup, a beef pancake, some eggplant, and a beef. The soup was okay, not the best ingredients. The pancake was very weird. The beef had some carrot mixed into it. The eggplants were extremely oily and overcooked. The beef was dry and inconsistently marinated. The total was around $54 for those 4 dishes. Extremely overpriced for their quality of food.
