Spence was our captain. He was pretty awesome! Took as many pictures as we wanted. Provided sunscreen. Thank goodness since we just ran out hours earlier at the beach. The boat ride was so relaxing and nice. We passed by some sea lions. Spence told us some facts that I barely remember now. He also pointed out good hang out spots for sunsets or late night outings. We got a few cheese fruit plates along with 2 bottles of wine. The spread was cute. Didn't do too well in July heat. But Spence brought it out a couple at a time and kept the rest in the fridge until we were ready for more. The wine was also kept out of the blaring sun. So it tasted great! The boat can fit 6 people. We rented out the boat for the four of us so we didn't get a random couple cruising with us. We rode by engine, not by sail. I wish we could have seen a bit of sailing in action. But I'm sure it causes more of a liability, especially if the passengers are drinking. Overall, I would repeat this again. This was a fun afternoon. We booked our cruise through travelzoo. I'd use the bathroom before you get there because you have to have a key to unlock it, which they're very kind about but just a heads up. We took off promptly with Captain Spence. He was polite, informative, and had a nice disposition. Spence, will you be our friend?! I'd say the cruise is all about getting the boat experience. If you're like me and love being on the water whether it be kayak, paddle boat, pontoon or sail boat this will be right up your alley. We enjoyed a red and white wine. I didn't think the wines were amazing, probably universal pleasers but again it's super nice to enjoy a glass of wine with your friends and take in San Diego. The cheese and meat were good and simple- a satisfying bite to go with your wine. The grapes were.. grapes haha but good. We toured around the bay, saw some wildlife, and toured around some hotels and sights. This was my favorite experience of any during our last trip so I'd recommended it highly. On travel zoo there was an option to buy two tickets or the whole boat up to 6. Cash tips recommended. Plenty of parking at the marina Captain Spence was very cool and I'd book this again. My bf and I were going to be in San Diego for a weekend so I looked up stuff to do on groupon and found this. So glad I bought it. Our deal came with a bottle of wine and appetizers for a 90 minute tour on a boat. The boat is like a sail boat that fits 6 people. You can reserve your own boat but I think there's an extra fee for that. You can also purchase more wine if needed. The appetizers were great. It was a tray of cheese, meat, crackers and grapes. Perfect! It was such a great and relaxing experience. Tony,our captain was very friendly and very knowledgeable. A couple questions were thrown at him here and there and he always had an answer. This excusrion wasd an absolute BLAST. Our hostess secured a Groupon for their San Diego service, and we had such a great time. We arrived a few minutes early, and were greeted promptly by our Captain who encouiraged us to use the rest rooms at the harbor before boarding. We were given a charcuterie and champagne, and we brought along some extra bottles for our party of 6 and a few snacks with no problems. We scheduled our trip for 2/25, a Sunday, because it was the day before our wedding anniversary and we both work during the week. We truly enjoyed our time on the water. It was a beautiful day, we were able to see some seals sunbathing, and the wine was quite good and not nearly as expensive as we expected. I would have given a 5 star review if not for how the trip ended. We purchased another bottle, so upon returning to the dock our captain, Tony, was taking payment. He asked if gratuity was going to be on the card, and I said no because we were going to tip in cash. My job also calls for gratuity, and I always prefer receiving and giving cash over a card. As my husband was finishing signing, I opened my wallet and realized that I had forgotten we used our cash on lunch. There were signs on the table stating the requested gratuity rates, so I knew what I had in cash was not acceptable. I handed Tony the $12 I had and began saying, "I'm so sorry, I thought I had more cash...." but before I could finish what I was saying, he snatched the cash out of my hand and his entire demeanor changed towards us. It was such a startling difference, even one of the other couples talked to us about it after we had left the dock. I was going to tell him that I was going to purchase a bottle to take home so I could tip on the card, but I'm glad I didn't. We were very offended and blown away by his attitude towards us as we left. We were highly disappointed in this. I don't often yelp review activities, mainly restaurants, but I'm more than happy to share my experiences about this amazing boat ride. We arrived and were treated by Spencer. He led us down to the boat which was a nice and straight forward sail boat with some benches on the top. It doesn't sound like much, and it's quite simple, but perfect for what this is. We upgraded to a full bottle of wine, which lasted perfectly for the trip between me and my wife. It helped that Spencer was a sommelier although his talents never really got explored as we picked a wine and drank it. His pouring skills were obvious though and of a high quality. It would have been good to have some more unique cheeses such as blue or parmesan, although I'm sure they catered mostly to people who like mild flavoured cheese, which is understandable. I bought a Groupon deal for 6 for my boyfriend's birthday gift and we had a blast! The directions were easy to follow once you see 'Aqua Adventures Kayak Rental.' The dock is literally just there. He sat us down and started us with a bottle of champagne before we sailed. We got a plate of appetizer and two bottles (red wine, white wine, and champagne are the choices). Our first cruise we had captain Tony and he was incredible! Super friendly and a good time. Tonight we had captain Steve. Equally great! Extremely friendly and attentive. We upgraded our bottle of wine both times. It comes with a half bottle of wine per couple, but you can upgrade to a full bottle of Raymond Cabernet for about $12-$14 more. Definitely worth it! I haven't done the day cruise but I can't recommend the sunset cruise enough. The views are stunning and the bay is very peaceful and relaxing. Oh and definitely check groupon! We had the choice of sparking, moscato, a dry white or red wine. We chose the Merlot and it was quite good. There's lots to like about Ship 'N a Bottle, but also certain things you should know before signing up. Let start with the negatives: 1. It's a rather small boat 2. They won't necessarily be prompt 3. The cheese selections are pretty bad for a self-advertised "wine and cheese" cruise. Its pre-sliced deli cheese from a package, Vons-style. Crackers that are again straight up Vons. And... goldfish crackers. See what you did here. Ha. 4. Wine selections are mediocre. 5. Music kept stopping and we (customers) were responsible to get it going again. 6. You are pressed fairly hard for a tip. It's mentioned at least twice during the trip out loud and is printed and pointed to before and after the cruise. They say that their captains work "only for tips" on the sign... hm, that's a bit of an odd thing to say. 7. Included in the price is one glass of wine. The rest of the options are upsold during the trip (bigger bottle, better wine, etc). 8. It's super awkward to attempt this if you're not going as a couple. Positives: 1. It's extraordinarily beautiful out there on the water. 2. With the route they take inside the bay, the water is very calm and the ride is extremely pleasant. 3. If you get the Groupon and pay 50% off, it's good value. 4. Everyone I was there with (other customers) were very nice and polite. 5. Great date idea! 6. Felt like a good amount of time being out there on the water. Didn't feel they skimped on time. 7. Safety was emphasized. 8. In the spring and summer, around sunset the weather is warm and beautiful. 9. The engine is quiet. 10. Easy free parking nearby. This was a good experience, but if you are money-conscious I wouldn't recommend it unless it's at the discounted Groupon rate. read more

Sail away...sail away... sail away :) Well, I came across this when I was on Groupon. Was looking for something casual and romantic to do with my boyfriend $50 for a $155 value.Totally worth it! Went on the 3:15 cruise this past Saturday When I first booked, I had a few questions and Matt was very helpful and called me right back. The directions they send you on the email are very detailed, however, we ended up getting a little lost. But no fret, Spence called me and walked us through how to find it. (Can be somewhat tricky) Parking is free and plenty of it. We were greeted at gate warmly. We stepped on the little sailboat and started to spark up conversation with the other 2 couples (all whom were pleasant). I ended up getting a bottle of chardonnay on top of what we got, it was delicious. They give you a plate of tasty crackers, cheeses, salami and grapes. All paired well with the wine. I ended up then getting another bottle and it only came out to $22 for the 2 bottles. They take cash or CC on board. The benches have comfy pillows and you are close enough to the others where it is just intimate enough. Captain Spence was very friendly and gave us tidbits on some of the surroundings.:). He played Frank Sinatra at my request on their speaker. It was relaxing and a beautiful day. Time goes by not too quick and it cool to see the kayakers, ships and others on the water. Me and my boyfriend came here on Saturday at the 2:30-4 p.m. slot and Captain Tony took care of us! We got blessed with a beautiful day in January and the water was filled with people doing activities (kayaking, paddleboarding, kite surfing, etc). My hubby surprised me with a Ship N a Bottle cruise for Mother's Day. This was our first experience with Ship N a Bottle and we thought it was great! It was the perfect blend of wine, chatter and romance. It was a unique date night. We sat on the boat with two other couples, who we did not know, which to me could have been awkward but we were lucky to sail with nice people. We started to sail around 6:30 pm and enjoyed our wine with the chocolate fondue. The boat travels slow so it's nice and relaxing. Our captain Tony was both accommodating and funny and made sure all our drink and sailing needs were met. There were plenty of chocolate, treats and drinks for all on the boat. The only recommendation I would give to Ship N a Bottle is to supply forks for each person on board. Usually the fondue stick is not to be eaten off of as we did because there was no silver wear. This did not stop me from enjoying the magnificent cruise on the beautiful bay! I highly recommend Ship N a Bottle if you are looking for a unique and romantic date night!
