While they may attempt to sell room temperature ones from the display, the best and most impressionable ones come hot off the conveyor. If not, they'll feel very average, but the variety is also a big thumbs up. When in a pinch, a dozen on the go seems fairly standard here. Aim early for the best quality ones. While the donuts can be sometimes hit or miss, one area that has not missed is their kolaches. The classic jalapeno and sausage has been a staple forever, which I personally enjoy more than all of their donuts. Richmond Avenue seemed long when I was hungry. Map shows 2 coffee shops at the corner of Richmond and Chimney Rock Road. Ah, perfect. That's where right before I need to turn to get on Southwest Freeway. Now, choose one, Shipley Do-Nuts or Starbucks? Well, I don't want just coffee, I want food. So, here I was. Store was really clean and smelling really good. They donut display was really appetizing. Mmm... Can I get one of each? My tummy said no. Okay, let me try oven baked cinnamon roll, crumble donut and traditional glazed donuts. And of course, a large cup of coffee. Coffee was excellent. I don't need cream or sugar. It was freshly brewed at the right temperature. That's a big difference between Starbucks and others. They tend to serve really hot and made it undrivable. I was supposed to drink while driving, but my tummy said "feed me Lou." So, I sat by the window watching the world gone by. I normally come here to order kolaches and donuts for my employees. I asked for ham and sausage kolaches and the worker there was confused at the end when it was time to pay I noticed that I was charged extra I asked her to what she rung me up for and she had my order all wrong instead of apologizing and correcting it she started talking in Spanish saying that I was lying about what I asked for. My go to donut shop on the weekends. The ladies at the front aren't too sociable, but they are focused on getting your order quickly and moving the line - which I can appreciate. Love Shipley! Just as my friends told me, their glazed donuts are amazing and by far the best I've ever had, even better than fresh Krispy Kreme glazed donuts. The texture is perfectly soft and moist and chewy, and the sugary glaze is in perfect balance with the buttery fried goodness of the dough. We also got the sausage jalapeno cheese kolache, my goodness it was good. The sausage doesn't taste like anything special, you might actually have had better sausages from the grocery store. However, the bread that surrounds the sausage is a perfect biscuit-like taste and just so soft and chewy, it makes you want to buy another one. Still a fan. But I've come to be greatly annoyed at something that happens every time I'm here. There's a lady behind the counter that just does not pay attention to you because she's is too busy staring at every single person that comes in behind you. I don't have to repeat my simple order often, but I do sometimes with her. She will forget what she's pulled for me and will have to double or triple check while she's ringing me up. Again, because she's so interested in what other people are doing that she's lost her train of thought. Dealing with a staff member who just doesn't care about you should be less obvious, imo. This is one of my favorite Shipley's locations. Nice and big so it doesn't feel crowded even when there's a lot of customers in there at once. It is very clean and has nice cute little donut decoration with windows were you can watch them make the donuts. It doesn't have any tables but it does have bar stools around the room so there is still a place to sit if you want to eat there. They'll walk the extra steps to pull a fresh one off for you from the bakery area, rather than give you a donut that's been sitting out. If you haven't been to Shipley's, they make the world's best donuts. Better than DD or Tim Horton's. Cherry iced is awesome. Keep expanding Shipley's. And this is a terrific location. I've been to this location about 4 times and the food has been inconsistent at best. In the past the donuts and kolaches have tasted perfectly fine and perfect in temperature.
