Christy's Donuts is more than a donut and kolache shop. It's a story full of history and remnant of Cambodian entrepreneur Ted Ngoy (aka the Donut King) and his ex-wife Christy. If interested in learning more I recommend watching the 2020 documentary called The Donut King as it'll shape a greater appreciation and understanding of not just this donut shop, but probably over 90% of mom and pop donut shops across Texas are Cambodian owned. The current owners of this family owned shop are Cambodian, and they've been operating for decades. On to the food, highly recommend their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches. They tossed it in the microwave for a quick reheat which made me a bit skeptical of freshness, but regardless the bread remained soft and pillowy with an amazing bread to meat ratio. For their donuts I loved their apple fritter, blueberry, and classic glazed donuts! They'll also toss in some donut holes on the house. Incredibly upset! I love their Chappell Hill sausage kolaches and I literally came here to order just that. There was plenty of parking and the food line went pretty quickly. The feel is very mom and pop vibes which I do like. However, when I came home, come to find out they put regular kolache's in my bag. I have been eyeing Christy's Donuts for some time now. When I drive by Christy's, it is usually after they have closed, or I have already eaten. Parking: pretty easy parking. It is on the corner of W Gray & Waugh, so you can enter or exit at two sides. It is not a large parking lot, but people seem to come and go quickly as it is mostly take out. Entrance & Ordering: small area to wait in line to order. There were two people in line in front of me and it went quickly. I had time to look at the fresh baked goods, the menu, and to make an informed decision. I read on yelp that the sausage and cheese croissant was tasty, so I ordered one and asked for a jalapeño option. The lady said she has a sausage and cheese kolache with jalapeño and I enthusiastically accepted. She warmed them up nice and hot. I paid cash since my order was $3.57 (and because I actually had cash on me). She seemed appreciative of cash for my small order. The best donut shop in Houston. Honestly I can't tell why this place doesn't get talked about more often, and sometimes I'm grateful it isn't. They can definitely get busy, but they aren't city wide famous for some reason, so you can still get a parking spot. This is a Montrose institution as far I'm concerned, I've been going here since my days at UST. The building has never changed, and the quality has always been great. The plain glazed donut here is the only thing I've had that's better than a Shipley's plain glazed. Served hot and super fluffy, they basically just melt in your mouth when you get one fresh. The kolaches and other savory breakfast options here don't miss either, no mystery meat sausages or premade plastic wrap breakfast tacos. Every style of donut here is my fave compared to other neighborhood spots. Worth a trip into town for sure! read more

Stopped by to grab early breakfast to-go for a road trip. This mom and pop shop is located in Montrose area and have a private lot. Got the jalapeños sausage&cheese kolaches and half a dozen glazed donuts. Turns out I've had Christy's many times through out the years in the office, and didn't realize since their boxes do not have logo or name. Tasted even better when freshly made! Kolache tasted fresh, the flavor and texture were good (much better than places with similar price point such as Shipley's and kolache shop, but not quite there yet compare to places with a higher price such as kolache Shoppe). Solid kolache spot that's been in its location for a while and surviving in an area of high gentrification. Old school and located on West Gray and Montrose, Christy's has a small parking lot and a very small building that sells some tasty donuts and kolaches. The donuts remind me of Shipley's and the kolaches are decent as well. They're missing a high quality jalapeño cheese kolache with a decent sausage but it's still better than most of the other kolache spots in the area. I was totally expecting this place to be packed when I arrived but luckily the line was short and quick. I love a good donut and would say I'm looking for a particular texture and lightness to it for it to be amazing! And of course taste is everything. On this day I tried a sausage roll and donut holes. Ugh, it was nothing amazing to scream out about. The sausage roll was the average link in a roll. I wasn't blown away but it wasn't horrible either. The donut holes were the texture I was looking for but the taste was just not there for me. Perhaps I'm super picky and that's ok. The boudin kolache here is a fantastic. Yes, if you're on a Keto diet, this is a "carb on carb" crime, but get it anyway. My next favorite pleasure is the jumbo sausage and cheese kolache. Yes, it's a mass produced frankfurter in there, but I don't care. Nestled in their supple kolache dough, pigs never looked so happy in their blankets. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, and much prefer a savory brekkie. Yet, I still sneak some donut holes or a cake donut or two now and again. Wow really cute mom and pop shop with tasty kolaches and lotsa donuts. There's an entrance on the side with an exit on the opposite side plus seating area. The kolaches aren't labeled so point and ask. Friendly service and ours got warmed up. Good prices and most people are regulars so staff greet them by name. A great place to pick up donuts and kolaches in Houston. This is a fixture in Houston. It has been around for many years. It is a small one-story building with a small parking lot that is often full. The interior is dated with a few tables for people to sit and eat inside. Now, what this location may lack in parking and decor it definitely makes up for in the food that it makes and sells. The kolaches and donuts are excellent and reasonably priced. We visited just last week to pick up food for an event and I am glad that we did. Parking was a challenge but as we entered there was a line. I think I have always seen a line when I visited. Do not be discouraged. The line moves quickly as it did when we visited. You order at the counter which is a display case full of their various offerings. It looks like 4 or 5 rows of deliciousness. We ordered and picked up 2 boxes of donuts and kolaches. The staff was very efficient and nice and the prices were reasonable since each of the kolaches are a meal in themselves. I love going to christy's especially after a night shift. My favorite is their apple fritter!! Their sausage kolaches are great also. I wasn't a fan of their boudin kolache but it wasn't bad. They always give me donut holes when I order kolaches which is great. It's a small old donut place in midtown and they are always nice, helpful, and not pushy. I can see parking can be challenging here because they have a small parking lot but customers usually just pick up and go. I just had one of the absolute worst experiences I've ever had, in any restaurant. I went in to pick up my order, and immediately they ignored me and waited on two customers that came in after me. I thought maybe they didn't realize I was waiting first, you know give them the benefit of the doubt (and not allow myself to get irate). After the younger girl asked the second guy what else he wanted, I then spoke up and said "Why didn't you wait on me, I was here first"? The older lady of the two said rude and quickly "you wait after him". Okay now I'm pissed and I said "I was here why did you deliberately ignore me and take both customers... she said "I dunno" in the driest way. Okay y'all I am not a rude or confrontational person, so I said " I was already here and you skipped me twice". She then says in the rudest tone, "ok what you name on order!?". So I didn't spazz out, I turned around and said "Don't even worry about it, you know what you did and I'll make sure to let others know!" The younger girl with the retainer on actually laughed as I walked out. I've come here before years ago and the hospitality was amazing, I'll never go here again! It's dirty inside and the customer service is non existent or maybe I didn't look the way the other patrons did... because they were quite polite to the two who came after me. It took me a while to go to Christy's because it didn't look like anything when going past. Little did I know this place is an institution and absolute gem in Houston! I like to take people from out of town here to experience their first kolaches. I love the jalapeño cheddar kolache and normally will either try another kolache as a second or have it with an old fashioned glazed donut. The best part is that you can get an amazing breakfast for just a couple bucks! You'll see people coming here for a quick meal that they'll eat at one of the tables, a breakfast on the run, or buying dozens of donuts and kolaches for events or coworkers. This family owned bakery makes way better doughnuts than another famous name brand that most Houstonians know. They've been in the same location for a long time.
