This was a great stop while driving through the UP, both for food and drink. The outside had a great patio to stretch your legs and view the lake. I actually stopped on my way to and from Marquette. (If you have driven to the UP, you know stops are at a premium). On my way north, I just grabbed a drink. On my way home, I grabbed a drink and the chicken dinner that was on special. It was an amazing, perfectly fried half chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, and salad bar ( for an up fee). The price was still very reasonable and I had plenty of leftovers. Stopped in for a late lunch. The place was quiet with only two other tables occupied. We were greeted by John, who was cleaning tables at the time--he welcomed us and told us to sit wherever we liked. Once seated, he quickly brought over menus and took our drink order. The atmosphere was relaxed, with a baseball game playing on a few TVs. We ordered a bowl of chili, a cup of soup, and a grilled ham & cheese on sourdough. Everything came out perfectly cooked and flavorful. The homemade chips were a nice touch and added to the overall meal. One issue worth noting: the prices listed on the menu and specials board did not match what we were charged on the receipt. The actual prices were higher than advertised, which was disappointing. While the food and service were great, clearer and more accurate pricing would improve the overall experience. read more

We are long time patrons of this establishment and were looking forward to our visit last week while we were in town. From the moment the menus were brought to our table we were made to feel unwelcome by our server, who may be the owner? Long story short, we were basically kicked out well before the listed closing time listed online. I literally didn't even get to finish my drink. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what, but we were all astonished by our treatment. It's so sad bc we used to love going and supporting one of the few businesses in Naubinway. read more

Staying at a hotel near by, this was the only place to get dinner without having to drive another 20 miles. Ordered Broccoli Cheese Soup - needs some work, but edible and a Pasty which was very good. I finished it at the hotel and actually wished I had another one! No ice at the hotel, so I got bottled water to go. read more

This is a funky little neighborhood bar and restaurant that's off the beaten path. My wife and I eat and drink here regularly. The new owner cares about the quality of the food and it shows. Even in the short-staffed situation that every restaurant finds themselves in these days, they still manage to put out good food. It's definitely not gourmet or trendy. I like the spicy fried chicken sandwich with lots of toppings and homemade chips myself, the soups are homemade, and the Cove salad is actually pretty legit. There is a lot of standard bar food on the menu as well. Just be a patient if they are busy. They have 3 beer tap handles, a jukebox, pool table and horseshoe pits out back with a lake view. The bar is a good place to meet locals and get details on happenings in the area. We like taco Tuesdays, but they do fry up locally caught whitefish on Fridays as well. This place is so close to the local fishing dock that the whitefish could not possibly be any fresher. It was probably swimming a few hours before it hit the fryer. This place is worth a look if you like funky dive bars and independent eateries. read more

I give this a 5 star rating for the excellent service and the cool history. It's been around for 100+ years. Yes it is old, needs some updating, but you will not find a friendlier staff around. Don't waste your time here. We stayed nearby at a local hotel and were looking for a local place near the water to eat and chose this place based on location and previous reviews, but it literally couldn't have been any worse. Very dingy, unwelcoming entrance but even more troublesome was the unfriendly brunette waitress who "welcomed" us at the door. She made it very clear that we were not welcomed here by her one-word, short answers to our questions. The food may be good here, but trust me, there is no way the food could be good enough to make up for the awful service and atmosphere that this place provides. Go down the street to Moofinfries instead and if that is closed, you're better off eating or drinking at the gas station. read more

Also, both Keweenaw Brewery Widowmaker (a dark Guinness-like beer) and Upper Hand UPA (a delicious balanced Pale Ale) for $2.75 on draft. We also had food: fish and chips, sandwiches, and pasties. Very fairly priced, and simple decent quality bar food, considering the limited options available in town. A grilled cheese with chips and a pickle is $3.50. The Fri whitefish fish fry is the best. Nice salad bar with soup and a dessert table. The fish come fresh from the fishermen shortly before it's cooked. The place is an old fashioned bar with several tables. Friday is the only day for dinner otherwise it's soup and sandwiches. People are very friendly both the employees and customers. read more
