Yesterday my sister and I went to this store with a group of girls and as my sister went to get a sweatshirt the owner snatched the sweatshirt and told my sister that she stole a bracelet last night! my sister and her friends said she did not and the guy kept yelling at her. He then asked where our parents were and we said they are not here right now he demanded my sister to go in the back to watch the video of her stealing! my sister said no but he kept trying to bring only her into the back. Later the police came and watched the vide. The person shoplifting looked nothing like my sister and the police let us go. This left my sister left in tears. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS STORE read more

Had my daughter, her friends, and their mothers, detained last night by police for an hour, by FALSELY accusing them of stealing an $8 ring, AFTER they purchased multiple items from the establishment. After their innocence was proven, not an apology or anything from anyone. Total BS. The owner and staff are notorious for doing this..... look at all the other similar reviews!!! Visiting Shirt Shack has been a tradition for the last fifteen years. On the last day of every year, my family and I would visit Shirt Shack just before going home. As the years have passed and my children have grown, I've noticed that customer service has given my children propitious attention while shopping. Due to this, we will be ending our family tradition of being a customer of Shirt Shack; while adding this inauspicious warning to other parents of teenage children. I do not have any facts to conclude that the objectionable attention towards my children is due to a racial stereotype. Although after today's Eighth Street Shirt Shack visit, I'm no longer supporting them after other patrons pointed out that we were scrutinized while shopping. read more

I've been doing business here for approximately 25 years. I get quality items and memorabilia from my favorite place on earth. Years ago I would frequent the store with my mother and as time passed my own family. My children absolutely love this store, with all of the variety of products and knick knacks they offer. WOW I wish I would have read these reviews before I allowed my daughter and her friends shop here and spend there hard earned money. It's truly incredible how one establishment can cause so much chaos to these kids by having them detained all alone for hours scared to senseless. How do you keep a business going when you have such poor people skills. There are better ways to handle things. Shirt Shack is the best store on the boardwalk. This store has been kind to me for my last 18 years of existence on this island. The staff is outstanding, they are personable and help every customer equally. Some are angry, probably because they are rude and do steal. I have talked with employees and they get up to 10 shoplifters a night in the summers. Instead of discouraging your teens to go into this store on the boardwalk, teach your teens to not steal. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. My family and I went on a trip to Ocean City Nj like we do every year and i've never felt the need to write a review about a store but the service here was unacceptable. I was looking over some of the hoodies, jackets, etc. and one of the workers was very viciously harassing me. I was simply shopping. The whole team of workers were very rude. No customer service whatsoever. I ended up finding a few things that I liked and I headed to checkout, I got dirty looks AND remarks from all of the employees. I'm usually one to look over any attitude from customer service employees because I know how stressful it is, but what i experienced from the workers was completely dehumanizing and wrong. Do NOT shop here if you don't want to be wrongly accused of shoplifting!!! My sister and I were wrongly accused of stealing one of their magnets (which was terrible quality that looked like it was illegally printed off of google images) while we were in line to BUY a bunch of other items. Even after we proved we didn't steal they continued to treat us as if we did with NO apology whatsoever. We ended up leaving and not buying the merchandise. I needed a swimsuit but they didn't have a fitting room, so i asked the cashier if I purchased the swimsuit and tried it on at the business next door could I return them if they didn't fit, the girl said absolutely. So i paid her cash and tried them on next door and they didn't fit. I walked back to return them literally 6 minutes later and the same girl said sorry no returns, even exchanges only. I said u just told me 6 minutes ago I could return them! She said no I didn't. Needless to say I nearly lost my mind. I asked for the manager and after explaining what had transpired she said I believe she told u no returns she doesn't lie, insinuating that i'm lying! Polite staff who are very knowledgeable and honest about what they are selling. They were patient with my husband and I and helped both of us find hoodies that fit. They have some better quality clothing than other t-shirt joints on the boardwalk, and unique designs. read more

Hey shirt shack owners, how about you spend the extra dollars to get security cameras and tags if you're gonna falsely accuse people of shop lifting??? My sister and I were laughing at a magnet that was clearly a STOLEN image since it was so low quality. We had picked it up as potentially a "gag" gift and then put it back since it was not even worth the 4 dollars they were asking. While in line about to buy a 40 dollar purchase, we were rudely approached by a staff member who said she saw my sister put the magnet in her purse.... Not sure why we'd buy 40 dollars worth of merchandise to steal a 4 dollar illegally copyrighted magnet. My sister showed her where the magnet was that she put back and even offered to let her search her bag. Then as the employees told the owner behind the cash register, the owner then points her finger at me and said "actually it was HER". Her tone was unnecessarily rude and degrading in front of a line of people. They then asked to look at my bag and then my pockets.... Was my sister not showing her the literal magnet back in its place not enough??? Grasping at strings to find people who are potentially shoplifting their cheap junk. Ridiculous customer service. My father even went back to talk to the owner to get an apology for being falsely accused of a crime to which he was physically shoved him out of the store by the owner himself. Expensive but worth it. This place has the nicest sweatshirts on the boards. I treat myself to one zipper hoodie each year from here, and I can tell you they hold up! If you get one that fits correctly, don't put it in the dryer as it will shrink. read more

Poor quality products, horrendous customer service. Yesterday, I was shopping with my brother, my friend, and my two cousins. After our group bought more than 50 dollars worth of merchandise, my 12 year old cousin was accused of shoplifting an anklet that she had already bought and was going to wear out of the store. Either an employee or the owner asked to see a receipt, which the cashier had thrown away, so she had to verify with the cashier that she had already paid for the anklet, which BROKE THE NEXT DAY. I was then accused of shoplifting a keychain simply because I was a teenager, and two employees cornered me and loudly yelled at me while threatening to press charges. They then would not listen to anything I said and made the police escort me out while we waited for our parents to show up. This was a traumatic experience which ruined my perception of the Ocean City boardwalk, where I have been traveling to my entire life. (They ended up not pressing any charges, but the events were completely unnecessary) read more

Bought a stock red OCNJ hooded sweatshirt last night. My daughter thought better of the purchase and decided she didn't need to spend $30 of her hard-earned money on a sweatshirt. We went back today about 13 hrs after we purchased it last night, only to be told "no refunds." I can understand that on things that have been screen printed or personalized, but was told, basically, "that's our policy!" Rude male manager just walked away after our discussion. We have LOTS of friends and family who frequent the OCNJ Boardwalk, and we'll be telling them to stay away, FAR AWAY, from the Shirt Shack on OCNJ's Boardwalk. read more

So I went to this shack on a Tuesday and bought some things, spent $80 bucks and the one girl & guy who helped were nice. I went back on Saturday night spent about $75 bucks, I had something printed on sweat pants I didn't notice that it was upside down until I got back to my house, which was 30 mins away. I go back on Sunday only to have this fixed, so that's 30 mins drive there and another 30 mins back. OK I get into the shack and I explain what the problem is, the kid looks at my receipt and laughs and says look who it is, she thinks she is perfect, and she made this mistake, I had to bust his bubble and tell him it was a guy who did it, ok so he is willing to fix the problem and goes to get a new pair of pants to print on he comes back with different pink pants and says this is all I have, I'm like well its not gonna match the top, so could you do it on a blue set, he says yes then throws the pants down and says let me speak with my manager, he comes back with a blue set and is being very rude and nasty, I didn't understand why, I really wanted to say something to him about it, but I let it go. so I ask is the I on the pants supposed to be a different direction, his reply was uh no you can go check the wall and see that they are all printed this way. but very rude. so I'm a lil taken back by this , but I let it go, my daughter is with me and I don't want to make a scene in front of her. Well he finishes the print, puts it in a bag and drops it in front of me, does not say sorry, not a thank you not a please come again. nothing, the manager didn't come over, she walked over to the kid after i walked away and looked at the the set that was not printed correct. They put it on a hanger and put it up on the wall, I really was mad about this. So now I'm going to contact the owner. Would I be wrong to post the lil jerks name who was so rude to me? How bout the lady he said something about who wasn't there to defend herself, I could post her name so she knows this lil creep is talking about her, but I wont.
