    Tasting!
    Kelly M.

A group of 8 of us ladies went for the tour and tasting and some hanging out. The location, the back of a random alley, is kind of shocking at first but the proximity to greenbelt or red line metro is awesome! The place is tiny, a real labor of love on the part of the co-owners. They are fun and knowledgeable and really care about making some good liquor! We learned a bunch about making liquor, and we loved the extensive tasting of all the liquors. We also enjoyed some excellent $10 cocktails. We all found the hibiscus gin to be particularly interesting but all the drinks are good! We had an awesome time! Check it out!

This was a 10/10 experience. I was introduced to Shmidt Spirits through a Yelp Elite event. I was excited to learn they are conveniently located for me in PG county. The owner Arthur makes this experience so amazing. You can tell how passionate he is about his products. My small group had a lot of questions and he answered each one. This distillery is so cool because of the owners story of starting the business. The drinks were great. Arthur made us cocktails that are reasonably priced on their menu. This is a cute date or friends outing. I will certainly be returning for their events in the future.

Great time sampling all of the different spirits. Ended up with a neat double of the Crimson. Liked it so much grabbed one to go as well. Hopefully makes it safely on the plane. Conversation was great. Inkwell knows his stuff. Very knowledgeable and overall just a very pleasant conversation.

This place is a very nice and quaint distillery. I was my fiance plus one and I had a great time trying the cocktails, one with tamarin made by the bartender from scratch and a cocktail with their signature aqua hibisco. We played a fun bingo-esque type game called La Loteria which displays different categories of people, animals, and things in spanish (super festive) and the winner received prizes such as a free tour for 4, glasses from Shmidt Spririts, and a free bottle of aqua hibisco. The churros were really tasty and came with a choices of dipping sauces like caramel and condensed milk. All in all people were really dressed up and is an overall nice location. In summary a great distillery and a great event!

Thank you Yelp MD burbs for this event! The place is tucked in a spot hard to find initially. The place has really good spread of spirits. The Halloween theme at the event was made to heighten the spirits of the guests.

This was a fun little find by my wife in a tucked away location. We stopped by here on a Saturday about an hour and a half before closing time. Arthur and Brian guided us on a tasting of the spirits offered by the distillery; both gentlemen were attentive and hospitable, all while sharing information about local events and a little bit of friendly banter with a few cocktail enthusiasts. The cocktails we enjoyed were inventive and unique, and weren't just a spirit thrown together with something like sour mix like some places do; we definitely appreciated that, as it makes all the difference in a drink. We grabbed a few bottles to go and wouldn't mind returning here if we're in the area again on a weekend.

10/10 Loved this place. Also, for me, it was awesome to see a distilery in PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY. (All shade to PGC for not doing more to encourage distillers that could bring more economic growth to the region...anyway). My friend and I went to this small distillery, and the co-owner Brian was exceptionally personable. He gave a full tour of the operation and told us how the idea was concieved and everything. He informed us of where they get their ingredients and how long each product takes to make. Btw, they do host events like art gallery expeditions in spring and a Dia de los Muertos event in the fall. The Rye Whiskeys were soooo smooth. None of the bitey feel you get from many Rye Whiskeys. Definitely good for drinking neat. My favorite is their Inkwell Bourbon and their Hibisco gin....the Hibisco is thick but so easy, almost like juice. I definitely used it for a gin and tonic later in the evening. All in all, don't walk, RUN in, and get a tasting and buy their spirits. Honestly a great experience overall, and you'll get good conversation. They also offer personal barrels and will work with you to create everything. Getting a barrel for a wedding would be the ultimate wedding gift in my opinion.

I had a really good time learning about this local Distillery and their spirits. My friend discovered their tour while on Groupon, and I was happy to support a company that took the time and resources to give back to the community during the pandemic by making sanitizer. There is a sincere passion that Arthur and Brian have as Master distillers and it was great learning from them and receiving such positive energy during the tour. They have a pretty cool start up story and I appreciated their drive to come together and create tasty spirits. All questions were welcomed, I learned a lot about the distilling process and it felt like having a conversation with friends. I can't believe it, but I actually purchased a bottle of gin (that's how good it is). We all know that gin is typically a love/hate spirit, of which I was the latter and I personally prefer whiskeys or bourbon, but Shmidt Spirits made me a believer. Their Viridian is some of the smoothest that I have tasted and their herbal blend throughout each flavorful sip is fantastic. The tour was a great addition to our day and didn't take a lot of time. Our tour tickets included a glass which is a nice touch. Come through and support local!

Opened in February just before the Covid shutdowns. Talk about hard luck! Their Gin is incredibly unique. Their Rye is unique as well. A little young but good. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Looking forward to trying some of the stuff they will be offering in the future!!!

Dia de los Muertos! Great food and excellent booze. You won't be disappointed, see you there.

It is truly a marvel. The distillery does a great job at providing a great on-site bar experience, too. It is dim for a nice mood, always has a great playlist, and their cocktail list is always changing and always interesting. It is winter time, which means it's coquito time. La Famosa makes the world's best coquito, and it showcases C&R's rum nicely. If you want to keep it simpler, their rum old fashioned is delicious, too. They do not sell beer or wine, just rum, but with rum this good, who cares. They make a bunch of interesting, small batch rums throughout the year, and they work very well in cocktails, you will find something you like no matter what you like. They have been rocking at this spot for over nine years, now, so that really tells you something about their quality. They have earned a spot in the DC pantheon.

The inside is simple, with the occasional nod to ships at sea, which is easy to do if you have lots of barrels for aging spirits. There is a little bar where they make great cocktails rather quickly. They have spirit-forward as well as citrusy. Never had one I didn't like. The spirits (as of this writing, still available at some local liquor shops) are fantastic. My absolute favorite is the Lady Anne white rum. Some white rums are barely better than rbbing alcohol, but this has character and depth and makes a fantastic mojito. RIP Lost Ark!

When we arrived, there were only a few people there and we were able to get a drink order in right away and they brought it to our table fairly quickly. But then the crown arrived and there were lines 10 people deep just to get an order in. Food (which we didn't order) was a nightmare; there were people's orders behind the bar for over 30 minutes just getting cold because they were too busy to figure out where the people were and no one was coming up to check on their orders. I waited in line for over half an hour just to close my tab. I'd recommend paying with each order... The drinks were not bad - the spirits (which are not made there) are decent, but are primarily mixers. They do sell bottles, but I didn't get any (granted I am a whiskey snob...). The music was WAY too loud and the DJ was just awful - he had zero personality whatsoever. My adult kids were the ones who wanted to bail, not us! Hope the next time is better...

Had a White Russian, made with Sangfroid's coffee liquor that uses coffee from nearby Vigilante's, a local coffee house/roaster. It's delicious and bold. Jeff Bridges would love this White Russian (movie hint: What "The Dude" drinks in The Big Lebowski). Also tried a Hot Cider, made with their pear bandy--yummy. Walked out with a bottle of their Old Dutch Style Gin and some of their maple syrup. The maple syrup is a partnership with a maple syrup producer from Vermont. Sangfroid ages it in rye barrels.
