Well I've been feeling like I haven't really been getting shoes that fit properly but also thought as I get older, foot pain and discomfort come with the territory. While walking around Holland, MI today my wife suggested that we stop by since we had nothing else to do but enjoy the downtown area. Cory met us as we entered and offered to help if he could. I had spotted a pair that I liked (color and design) and he asked my size. While he went to get them we browsed the store some. As we talked about different brands and which had the best arch support, he took me to school! I don't think I have had anyone measure my foot since my Mom took me to get shoes 40+ years ago. I've been buying the same size for decades now. Cory took several measurements and suggested that a different size might work better for me. He showed me how much things have changed since I became set in my ways. I tried on 3 different styles of tennis/ walking shoes that were nowhere on my radar. All 3 pairs felt light years better immediately. They all had a different feel about them in the way my foot seated in them, but all were extremely comfortable. Cory is trained to fit shoes correctly and I am so glad my wife suggested we stop. Yes, I bought all three pair and of course I wore a pair out. They had a great assortment of hats (one of which I got), and the prices, while somewhat higher than those tourist trap shops, were not outrageous at all, and the items seems of good quality. I understand that you have the right to your policies, but I also have the option to spend my money elsewhere. I still like your store, but given when I have a free minute I walk my dog, it looks like our paths won't meet up. I'm so sorry that your experience was so negative that it drove you to implement this policy, but it seems unfortunate given the number of local and visiting dog owners. Went to the Dick's Sporting Goods in Holland because they had a particular baseball bat my son…read morewanted to buy and the online inventory showed they had the two different sizes he was interested in. We got to the store and they did indeed have the bat in both sizes....unfortunately most of the bats at Dick's have a theft prevention device affixed to the middle of the bat. This device not only adds weight, but affects the balance of the bat, so you can't get an accurate feel for a bat with this stupid thing attached to it. So, I found the sales associate working in the baseball section and asked if they could remove the security device so my son could determine which of the two bats he wanted. The sales associate said that they couldn't remove it. What?!?! You've got to be kidding me! Now, I could have just bought the bat, had my son check it out, and then return it, but that really doesn't make much sense now, does it? I promptly walked out of the store, frustrated that we drove 30 minutes for that! A great example of a customer service failure. Won't be going back to the Holland store again, I'll stick to the Rivertown store from now on (the location where we did end up buying the bat). Neither location has great service, seems to be common thread with most of the DSG's I've been to. Only reason we didn't go to Rivertown in the first place was because their website didn't have an accurate inventory of the bat being in stock. Go figure.
