I totally agree with Niki that Frances Jaye is like an even more unique Madewell. The vibe is super cool but not so cool that I felt uncomfortable there. I didn't really browse the clothing but I could tell that the things I saw looked well-made and fashionable. A quick check of the Frances Jaye website let me know that they appreciate and support sustainable and ethical brands, which is always awesome to see. The prices may be higher than your average mall, but you get what you pay for. They have men's and women's clothing, accessories, home goods, cards, books, and gift items. I particularly loved the Holland shirts that were modern and stylized. I ended up buying a fancy wick trimmer as we seem to have a surplus of candles these days, as well as two cute holiday cards featuring cat illustrations, because #crazycatlady I loved this little shop and will absolutely stop in every time I'm in the area! read more

This store is my dream closet. It's essentially an even-more-unique Madewell, with carefully curated items. Everything is a bit pricey, but it's clearly well-made and styled. They have amazing jewelry, clothes, and accessories here. I got a really cute star choker that I wear constantly. I live in Grand Rapids, which has surprisingly few menswear shops that sell anything besides dad clothes. I had heard some praise for Frances Jaye, so I stopped in while I was in the area and was really impressed. The store carries a lot of great brands - some of my old stand-bys, and some I had never heard of but quickly became familiar with. There's a good mix of bigger brands (e.g. Obey, Herschel) and smaller, boutique ones. Their selection of accessories was well curated, too. I didn't pay much attention to the women's section since I'm a guy, but it looked pretty grand. If I was a lady, I'd be all over this place. I wish that their men's selection was bigger, but it's already much larger than any of the selections I've found in Grand Rapids (I'm talking about curated, small business places - not chains or mall shops). This store is very modern, with neutrals lining the shelves and wall, clothing categorized by color and accessories that make the place look perfect. A way to describe this place to me is if J.Crew and a hipster had a baby. Trendy clothing but not as preppy of a feel as J.Crew. The store has both men's and women's wear, with stylish bags, backpacks, duffel bags, clutches, etc to fit the stylish person on the go. The complete head to toe look can be found all in this store. Their brands are down the middle of the road when it comes to pricing. Some more expensive than others, but there is nothing cheap about this store. Leather bracelets and journals line the shelves, with pristine smelling candles and jewelry to decorate with. Lets just say I wanted almost the whole store but walked out with one item for now. Loved shopping at Frances Jaye. There was a great variety of trendy clothing that worked for a wide range of ages (dare I say even those of us in our 40's!). Coming from California, the trends were on point with the added bonus of a much lower price point. The staff were a bit stand offish, but that didn't detract from the merchandise, just didn't come across as particularly strong at sales IMHO. (My friend who came in with me was a larger size than the item she had selected and instead of suggesting other options or more flattering styles, they just walked away. To me that was a missed opportunity). But overall great store, organized and nicely displayed merchandise. read more

Frances Jaye is a really fun boutique in downtown Holland that has a Lucky brand aesthetic and vibe. I fell in love with a couple of dresses on display but sadly they did not have my size. If you're a female in your 20s or 30s, Frances Jaye and jb and me are the two shops in downtown Holland that you just have to check out! read more
