I'm only giving you a one star rating because it's asking me to.
Well, this is not the first time I have been to the Shoe Dept. in Gaylord. Each experience has been uneventful.
I have been a retail manager for over 25 years, so when I frequent a business, I try to give the benefit of the doubt. This time was the worst, and I feel the need to speak up. I walked in the door and there were two employees at the register/check out counter. The one had a typical Shoe Dept. shirt on and the other, I am going to assume was a District Manager, (no attire, but paperwork and a discussion about sales leads me to think she was) I really don't know, because neither said hello or acknowledged I was there. She had her paperwork spread out over one counter. There was one customer cashing out, and a mother and her daughter trying on boots down another aisle. Besides myself, no one else in store. I walked down the boot aisle, looking for 3 different pairs of boots: ankle boots, tall brown boots, and snow boots.
I wasn't in the aisle for more than a minute, and the employee who had no Shoe Dept attire walked down the aisle looking at me suspiciously. Mind you, I carried a small purse and had a short wool peacoat on. NOT THAT IT SHOULD HAVE MATTERED! I was dressed very nice, NOT THAT IT SHOULD HAVE MATTERED! She proceeded to watch me, not saying one word. She peeked down the other aisle where the mother and daughter were, and then, back to the aisle where I was.
It was all I could do to ask if she was an employee, or ironically, if she needed help!! As I walked down the aisle looking at what they had, I tried on one boot. Didn't fit correctly, so I moved to the other aisle to the tall boots. (Same aisle as the mother and daughter, and the associate finally chose to help them). She, the unattired associate, proceeded to watch me from the other aisle and try on boots and shoes to make herself look busy. To be honest, she looked like a complete ass!!!
Let me remind you, she has yet to say hello or ask if I needed help.
I found a pair I boots that were considerably less than I found a Peebles, so I purchased them. Reluctantly!!!
I have more class than this "employee", "DM", whatever she was will ever have.
To top it off, when I checked out, there was not even a thank you.
THEY SHOULD BE THANKFUL BECAUSE THERE HAD BEEN A BIG SNOWSTORM, AND BUSINESS, I'M SURE HAD NOT BEEN WONDERFUL.
I WILL NOT BE FREQUENTING THIS STORE AGAIN.
RUDE, IGNORANT, AND just a word of advice:
I was trained that the best way to combat inventory loss is customer service!!! You don't stare people down or judge them! I found some of my best customers looked like they had nothing, But they were just as important, if not more important, as the ones who faked it!!
A simple hello, and can I help you would have changed my whole opinion of this store. I probably would have bought more boots.
But as I said in the beginning, every visit has been uneventful!!
SHAME ON THE SHOE DEPT!! And shame on your employees!! Not everyone is out to rip you off.
I had a better experience at Walmart where I had just spent $300 on groceries!!! And my checkout lady was awesome, friendly, and happy!! She started with hello and a smile!!
I repeat:
I'm only giving you a one star rating because Yelp is asking me to give you one. read more
