I'm sad that I don't have the photos from before. I was almost trashing these gloves, and other shoe shops have told me, "There's nothing I can do." With so much creativity and good work, and with a 24-hour turnover, these gloves feel like new again!! Would recommend for any leather boxing gloves!!

What do you do when you have talking shoes? Talking back certainly didn't work. All kidding aside, I haven't been attending formal events for years, even before March 2020. So when I pulled those new pair of Cole Haan's and the sole separated from the shoe, I was on the hunt for someone who could repair these barely worn shoes. I called and emailed a company that previously helped me that used to be on Geary St. My resent email was answered with a $50 estimate. I replied that it was fine and asked how and where to pay and deliver my shoes. Then... crickets. Multiple emails, phone calls.... crickets (was so tempted to review that biz but, not having anything good to say...). My friend went online and referenced me to several stores near and in the Financial District which led me here. Since a lot of my work errands are in or around the Financial District, I walked here on a weekday late morning and brought my 'talking' shoes here. The friendly lady gave me an estimate of $40.00 and told me that it would be ready in a week. Bringing the shoes as it was boxed and stored for many years, she kindly explained how my shoes were damaged. About two weeks later, I returned with my receipt stub and she pulled my boxed shoes from her shelf. After tax, the cost was even less than what she estimated and I was impressed with hour my repaired Cole Haan dress shoes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=jxt_nMhM5KRpQs4h-077XQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) looked. Thank you, Shoe Wiz, and the kind lady (owner?) for checking one of my to-do items off my list. Simply done and it cost me less than I expected.

    HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! AVOID

Very disappointing experience. I brought in my shoes for a simple repair, and the sole came apart almost immediately after picking them up. When I went back to ask for it to be fixed properly, the owner accused me of lying and refused to take responsibility. The workmanship was poor, and the customer service was worse. I now have to pay someone else to fix the damage. I do not recommend this place. AVOID

The heel was cut too short.

The proprieter butchered my favorite heels. I came here to have the tips on my heels replaced. The shoemaker literally cut the heels, effectively lowering the heels. I packed the shoes to take to a business event. The moment I stepped into the shoes, the heel cracked because the lowered height of the heel changed the angle of the heel. Please see the pics. I ended up having to go to the business event in the only other pair of shoes that I had packed - sandals. It was mortifying.

This is how they "fixed" my heel. Damaged original leather. didn't even try to make it right. No discount, no refund, just attitude.

Throwing away my shoes would have saved me $42 and would been less frustrating. I should have read reviews before letting this place destroy my Kate spade heels. I went in to get my heels repaired because the nail was showing. He recommended also adding a pad to the toe to prevent the leather from wearing out. The shoes were only worn about 5 times, so even though the price was high, I figured it was worth $42 if he was able to prevent wear and tear. Picking them up was an awful experience. I handed the lady my ticket and she was instantly rude. they were filthy! She just blew some air on them and handed them to me. The leather on the heel was cut up, the plastic cap they put in the heel was chunky and there was a gap between the cap and the original leather. I pointed out the damage and she said, "what do you want me to do, that's how they are!" She even tried to tell me that I brought them in with the tool marks. Horrible serivice- over priced and the WORST quality of work I have ever seen. My shoes are in worse condition then when I brought them in. Basically, I paid to have someone hack up my nicest shoes.

$600 Gucci belt ruined in less than 1 minute here. He did not look twice to see if the hole he was about to make was the correct size or even care to line up the two holes he was about to make. As soon as he hands it over we check to see if the wholes fit & it falls right out. There was no way it will ever stay in the holes he made. Thank you for ruining a $600 belt with no care at all.

Given the alternative of a factory recraft that could take several weeks at double the cost, I went with Show Wiz.

I needed to get my boots' soles replaced and was thinking about completely swapping the soles too. Mak provided me a reasonable quote for the rebuild and was also very knowledgeable in the shoe care tips he shared with me. He said he would complete an entire rebuild of both leather boots' soles within the day, and I was able to come before closing time to pick them up. I accepted and left my boots and contact information. Separately from my experience with the shoe repair, a couple came in after me to do a watch repair as I was leaving. Within seconds, Mak was able to identify the problem and said it'd take 10 minutes to fix. Talk about someone who knows their craft very well! He sent a text less than 2.5 hours later letting me know they was ready for pickup. I came before the store closed to pick them up. The boots' soles were revitalized, I put them on and walked around the store with them. I was very happy. Mak is awesome, gets your shoe repair done quickly with reasonable prices, and I will absolutely going to Mak for any shoe repairs I may have in the future!

Pre-pandemic, I used to visit their other locations back when they were called A Shine & Co., and I'm so glad I rediscovered them. While traveling in Seattle, I noticed a stain on the tip of my shoe and popped into a local shoeshine shop, thinking a regular shine would do the trick. The person who looked at them immediately recognized it as a hand sanitizer stain, which had penetrated the leather and removed the dye. He explained that a simple shine wouldn't fix it, the shoes needed to be stripped and redyed. Since I was traveling, I couldn't have the work done there, but he gave me invaluable advice: go to someone experienced, like Rachel at The Shoeshine Guild in San Francisco, because not all shoeshine and repair shops know how to properly handle delicate leather work. And he was absolutely right. Rachel did a fantastic job. After the repair, I couldn't even tell which shoe had been stained. My shoes look immaculate, and I am so glad I trusted them with this delicate work. What makes The Shoeshine Guild even more impressive is that they continue to support employees who are recovering from alcohol disorders and other challenges, a true testament to a business that cares about its community as much as its craft. If you have high-quality leather shoes that need repair, whether it's a small stain, scuff, or more extensive work, I highly recommend The Shoeshine Guild. They combine skill, experience, and heart in a way that's rare to find.

This location has been under new ownership since about April 2026 so some of the older reviews of the former owners may no longer be representative. Over the past few months, Carlos has helped me with both shoe repair, cleaning, and regular maintenance of my leather products, and I recommend him for any of the following services for which I have used: * Preparing brand new leather shoes or boots before wearing them for the first time. Carlos will moisturize the leather and shine them to provide some added protection before you start wearing them outside. * Repairing leather imperfections or stitching on the inside of the footwear from wear and tear. * Widening narrow shoes by stretching them from "E" width to "EEE" for better comfort. * Providing regular maintenance of leather shoes by removing old layers of shoe polish and wax, moisturizing and reapplying new polish, and then buffing the leather so that it shines. * During this round of shoe cleaning, Carlos also recommended that I add some rubber half-soles to the shoes which only had leather soles to help protect against further wear-and-tear and allow for better traction. * Carlos can even take care of Horween Shell Cordovan boots which require slightly specialized care compared to typical leather shoes. If you are looking for a cobbler in San Francisco, I would invite you to give this new local business a try. Carlos is a skilled and honest small business owner that offers fair pricing and he will ensure that your shoes, boots, and other leather products last a lifetime!
