The provider I saw seemingly had no info on file for me, so it was like a blind appointment. I sent my referral docs myself as well as some medical history/records and my medical group also sent referrals and health records directly to the office but somehow none of it seemed to end up in my chart for the doctor to see. I also followed up twice with office staff prior to my appointment about the intake forms that I was told would get texted to me and both times they acted annoyed that I was asking; my second follow up a man on the phone laughed at me and said the text would be a few days ahead of the appointment but it never came. I even arrived early on purpose for my appointment and told office staff I never received the texted intake form and again they seemed annoyed. They confirmed my cell # and said they'd text them right then for me to fill out but then they had me sign just an arbitration form then almost immediately put me in a room early and I never got that text to fill out the intake forms and the provider came in early. The provider I'm sure did the best they could with zero information and health history for me, but honestly it was a wholly unproductive appointment and I 100% regret coming. I cried in my car after my appointment because I was so frustrated. I waited weeks for this appointment and missed work for this appointment and spent time preparing by sending and ordering records and it was all for nothing. My suggestion is bipass the office staff completely and go old school and bring hard copies of your referrals and any health history/medical records and make your own list of things like medications and hand them directly to your provider so they actually know info about you and why you are there. read more

Today I went to see Dr Zuniga . First of all, the office is so clean and modern! I was greeted by a very kind and helpful young lady at the front desk!! Dr Zuniga was very very kind and bright. He did a thorough check of my ears, nose and throat. I've been having issues w my nose. He diagnosed what was wrong and gave me the proper medicine. I was so relieved to find out that it wasn't a serious problem. I highly recommend going to this office!!!! read more

I am an audio engineer with a career spanning six decades. My ears are crucial for my livelihood and I'm a lucky guy cause I love my work. For months I have had a chronic issue with my left ear and have honestly bee avoiding dealing with it because I was nervous about what was happening. So, as one does these days , I went to Google maps and searched and looked at comments. I found a couple results and one was Shohet Ear Associates. My instinct was to give them a call. They have a location not too far from me so I set up an appointment. I was given a hearing eval by Victoria, followed by a lengthly session with Alexandra. First of all the hearing eval was unlike any I've had before. It was extremely thorough and Victoria was wonderful. THEN, I saw Alexandra. WOW!!! Remember, I'm a sound engineer and my ears are precious! I was so nervous but Alexandra immediately put me at ease with her obvious knowledge and experience. I won't take you through the procedures, but I'll say it was the most reassuring experience I've had at ANY healthcare provider. Alexandra is just wonderful. She is warm, and present, and I really enjoyed the time as she did her thing. I know I'm gushing but this is an all too rare thing these days. I am someone who lives near Shohet, I am not a patient. I took my mother-in-law in because her hearing aid needed a battery. I couldn't figure out how to get to the battery. I was hoping they could help. When the receptionist learned that I wasn't a client, they were still willing help me. When I called for an appointment, I was given a time of 3 pm. I kept getting different texts to say the time is 2:30 and 3:00 pm. This was very confusing. I show up 13 minutes before my appointment, and they tell me, I was late and that they cannot see me. This is the worse excuse for a medical office. read more

Ear Infection Help Needed I visited Dr. Zuniga after experiencing three weeks of antibiotics and two ear flushes done by an unrelated urgent care. My initial ear infection and pain seemed to be on the mend but I lost my hearing in one ear during the process. I thought for sure that the many years as a musician caught up to me and I was getting deaf. I scheduled an appointment and got in within a week. I admit to calling other places closer to me, but two of them didn't have an appointment for new patients until January!! Anyhow, the lady taking my appointment was sympathetic and caring I felt and found me an appointment asap. The follow up text reminders were good as well. The Seal Beach office is super nice and the front office staff were cordial enough for a Monday morning without a sufficient amount of coffee on my part. The office recommended to get in 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, but I'm slow so 20 minutes would have been better. Anyhow, the doctor examined both ears, saw the something in my "bad ear" and cleaned it out. He told me that I had a fungal infection up in there. Apparently, this is common because antibiotics can killed the good bacteria that stops fungal outbreaks from happening. He proceeded to fill my ear up with some kind of anti-fugal foam(?), at least that's what it felt like, and then stuck a cotton ball in there so it wouldn't leak out. After changing out the cotton ball a number of times, the "stuffy and muffled" sound began to wane, and my hearing returned to normal within four days. I was sooooooooo happy to get my hearing back! I know this is bad, but I put on some music and cranked up my earbuds just to make sure :) I did a follow up exam to make sure we were good. The doctor checked both ears and they were clear. Lastly, I want to say that I'm utterly surprised by the negative comment here about Dr. Zuniga. Maybe that was a year ago, but he was probably one of the nicest and most professional doctors I've seen ever. Anyhow, I hope this helps someone in the future. read more

Dr. Shohet was recommended by someone I spoke to while having hearing issues - reduced hearing, distortion of sounds, hypersensitivity to sounds. He was out of town but the audiologist and ENT doctor when I went there were highly professional and explained everything and answered all my questions. I was having an inner ear issue and a prednisone regimen was marginally effective at best, but I opted not for the inner ear injection. The doc ordered an MRI and when it came back all good he said your ear should recover fine. It's recovering slowly, hearing acuity decent, distortions mostly gone, still some hyperacusis but abating over time. Top notch professionals at this office. read more

Should have read the reviews prior to coming to this place. Bad on Del Rey Ear ENT in Long Beach who referred me- By the way had a micro suction for removing wax from ears at Del Rey and suffered hearing loss! Yes it's a thing. -Many of those machines produce decibels that are too high and will damage your ear drum and give u hearing loss-Try another home remedy or holistic way. They all work. Now for the fun stuff! Because I suffered pain and hearing loss at Del Rey, they referred me to this place Shohet in Seal Beach location. Another mistake. The woman I met with, blonde with the legs, told me I should get a shot of steroids in my ear drum and that it could help. She said I could possibly feel dizzy. I let her, What a mistake! I felt like I was going to die, literally. I also have even more hearing loss as a result! I am so upset. She also recommended that I get hearing aids. Terrible experience, they definitely want to upsell you and its about the money. I would NOT recommend. and ready reviews like this one, they matter, then make your own decision. If you have wax in your ears never to micro suction unless you want to loose your hearing. Lesson learned! read more

I have been to this place a few times. The staff and the doctors are nice but I feel that they go over board with what they need to do in order to provide care. My out of pocket costs are quite high as a result. One of the things that is very upsetting when going to this place is that they do an upcharge if you want to pay your bill by credit card. So if you are short on cash and you have to pay your bill by credit card, you get an extra percentage added on to the already high cost of medical care and then you have to pay interest to the credit card company. Is it really necessary to rip your patients off just so they can pay their bill? When I finish the most recent treatment, I will not be going back because of this. I see on my EOB how much they are getting from insurance, it is not like they are going to the poor house because patients want to pay by credit card, It is just a very poor choice to rip patients off even more. read more

I was not a fan of this office overall. I did not get the feeling that the doctor cared much. The staff at the front - were very unorganized. I got my bill and saw that they charged me $60.00 to look inside my ear. Shouldn't that have been included in the $250.00 office visit.... sounds like a money grab to me. Won't be back. read more

My son has been diagnosed with surfers ear and has been seeing a couple of doctors in Newport Beach and not happy with the results. i called and made an appointment with Dr. Shohet for him and they got him in right away the same day because of his pain. He called me on the way home and was raving about the care he got from Dr. Shohet that he did not get from the other doctors he saw, the doctor spent a lot of time with him and explained everything to him with regards to his problem and the treatment that was going to be needed now and in the future, besides calling us on his way home he even stopped by to hug us for getting him to go. I worked with Jackie Bibee. She is amazing at her job and very accommodating. This place may be more expensive , but over the life of the hearing aids, it is well worth it. I found these aids cheaper , but the establishment did not provide the same service as Shohet. Hearing aids are only as good as the programmer ! Shohet only has professional audiologists and I received different hearing tests here than I have ever received before which results in better accuracy. read more

I went to the Seal Beach office and it is very poorly managed! I waited a week for my appointment and when I get there the office manager looked at my medical card and said it was unacceptable because it was a covered california insurance policy. I gave all the information about my policy the day I made the appointment which was one week earlier. No one called to tell me that my policy was no good and to keep me from driving a long way to get there. Also their office is listed in my provider directory! They did call me to remind me to be there for my appointment. Oddly enough, after being turned, away I realized when I got home and calmed down that I have medicare not obamacare! It is a shame that the a level of competence was missing and I still have my ear ache and I have to wait two more weeks to see another doctor.. read more

I saw Dr. Doherty at the Seal Beach office based on a recommendation from another Physician (was told she was the best). Dr. Doherty made a recommendation that I take an MRI exam. So that left me dealing with the front office for setting up the MRI, scheduling, and billing - nightmarish. I couldn't get a billing receipt on the first visit and had to make two additional trips to obtain a proper receipt which resulted in working through the accounting person in Newport Beach. I assumed that the front office would help me with setting up the exam and any required testing - I was totally wrong. I ended up coordinating with several calls between the MRI center and Shohet (no MRI orders sent to the MRI center). Finally after a little over 2 months, I was able to get my MRI exam. The doctor was kind enough to call and stated all is well (I'm glad cause I won't be coming back). Bad office staff = bad management (and patient care). read more

If you are thinking about going to a new ear doctor, especially if you have chronic ear problems and/or been to other ear doctors before and not been satisfied, then I implore you to see Dr. Shohet. I have been to about half a dozen either ENT (ear, nose & throat) or ear doctor specific doctors in my life, having ear issues as long as I can remember. Dr. Shohet is not only the best ear doctor I have ever been to, but the best doctor...period. His knowledge, his caring and "bedside manner" is excellent. Some background would probably be helpful....I have both hereditary conductive hearing loss in both ears. In addition, and more importantly, my right ear also had a very chronic middle ear infection for a very long time that for all intents and purposes essentially destroyed my hearing mechanism in that ear. I had, prior to Dr Shohet, two ear surgeries already in my right ear with other doctors...one in San Diego and another one in Orange County....these surgeries seemed successful and maybe they were but eventually my hearing not only continued to decline again but I eventually developed tinnitus (ringing in the ears) AND worst of all given that I work in a hotel with a LOT of crying and screaming children, hyperacusis (sensitivity to certain sounds, in my case high pitch, i.e, CHILDREN, would often cause me very sudden and intense pain a few times an HOUR all the while trying to work! I eventually was put on a medical leave of absence and had a very thorough hearing test done in San Diego at the time, and was fitted with new hearing aids...eventually the issue, although tolerable as it wasn't AS sensitive with hyperacusis, I DID still have it, and I found it making ME a more negative person since it really wears on a person both physically AND mentally. Flash forward to when I went back to work in Orange County and I was referred by the audiologist in San Diego to Dr Shohet. I had quite a few visits over a couple years and eventually decided to do yet a third surgery. This one involved a tympanoplasty (repairing the ear drum) with ossicular reconstruction (repairing the hearing mechanism, which involved him putting in a titanium implant essentially replacing the hearing mechanism. I should also mention that this was incredibly done THROUGH the ear canal so there was no painful incision behind the ear (this still floors me how this is even possible with that little space to do a procedure like this). I had heard before that there is no cure for hyperacusis and as far as tinnitus going away, it is possible it could be better or even go away but not a sure thing by any means. Well the human body is amazing and unpredictable sometimes and maybe its also because of my hearing being "out of balance" with the prior two surgeries and a misshaped ear canal from the prior surgery's infection (I have a "canal wall down" so its more like a bowl at one end which is tricky for maximum sound conduction). Anyway, very long story somewhat not as long ;)...the results are better than I ever would have guessed. I gained approximately 50 dec. on the right side (HUGE improvement in hearing the most common, like speech range), PLUS my tinnitus is almost non-existent by now, AND most surprising and grateful of all, my hyperacusis was immediately GONE after surgery. I know I might be In the minority for these results, I don't know...but that is my true and very very grateful story. I do still wear hearing aids, as I knew I would (I now have more or less a moderate hearing loss range instead of "severe or profound" as they call it, so I still need them). My hearing is by no means perfect, but given my past surgeries and simply my hearing genes, the results are still superb, especially combined with my hearing aids. I should also add that I was almost totally "with it" when I came out of surgery...no nausea or anything. The only pain I ever had was a little bit similar to TMJ, which was felt on one side for maybe a day or two. That's IT. Plus Dr Shohet called me the day after surgery to see how I was doing. Very nice, especially since that was a Saturday. Again, cannot recommend these folks enough. And besides Dr Shohet (and I cant remember everyone I have talked to between visits) Chelsea who handles billing and insurance matters as well as Mishiko (not sure on spelling on that one) are just the most amazingly patient and genuinely kind people I have ever spoken to in any doctor's office. They are I believe primarily or solely in the Seal Beach location. Good luck if you make the step visiting one of their offices. You are in excellent hands! read more

I called the Seal Beach office to make an appointment. To get the time of day I wanted at the earliest date, they told me they could make an appointment at the Newport Beach office instead. I agreed. I also verified that they took my insurance (Anthem Blue Cross) and I read them my number...they said they accepted that. The day I showed up at the Newport office I was told my appointment actually at the Seal Beach office. So, no doctor visit I guess. Okay then, reschedule for the Newport office at the next available, which they set up for two days later. I showed up two days later. They looked at my insurance card and said they didn't take that insurance. That's two wasted trips. Wasted time for filling out those endless new patient forms. Two weeks of waiting for appointment dates to arrive. And my ear problem is still not solved. I don't know who helped me when I made that first call at the Seal Beach office, but I sure hope they fire her ***. read more

Due to pain as well as wax continually clogging my ear, I went to see Dr. Shohet. He treats patients that way we all want to be treated. He is warm, friendly, informative, and spends the requisite amount of time with you. As it turns out, I have surfer's ear. He did not push me to have the surgery; instead, he indicated that I would likely know when I'm symptomatic enough to warrant it. Ultimately, I had him do the surgery, and I was definitely not looking forward to it. That said, he did a wonderful job, as I got a great result with very little pain or problems. I only had discomfort for a couple of days. The staff and nurses were also great, and they made me feel at ease. The post op follow up was just as smooth and professional. My wife was having severe headaches and she had to go to three doctors , Who misdiagnosed her and put her on medications which did not resolve her symptoms and her headaches only got worse. She finally went to Dr. Shohet Who fit her into his busy schedule and correctly diagnosed her condition within the first five minutes of her visit and prescribed the proper medications. This place is HORRIBLE. I took my elderly mother here to get in the canal hearing aides. Jacqueline told us there was a free trial period in case the hearing aides were not what my mom was looking for. During the fitting Jaqueline stuck something in my mom's ear to get out a little wax and my mom's ear canal started to bleed a little bit (no big deal these things happen). Then she proceeded to put an in the canal hearing aid in my mom's ear. These hearing aides are completely in the canal and some sort of coating is put on the exterior of the hearing aid to hold them into place inside the ear canal. After the aides were put in my mom knew something was wrong but Jaqueline sent us home anyways and gave us a follow up appointment for two weeks later. Normally the follow-up appointment is in one week but Jaqueline would be out of town. Anyways my mom went back one or two days later because the one in the ear that was bleeding turned itself off and my mom was having some ear pain in that ear. Jaqueline sent us back home after turning it back on and telling my mom that she is just getting used to them. The next day we called and reported we need a recheck because the hearing aid turned itself off again and my mom was experiencing more pain and a constant whooshing sound. We were given an appointment for a couple days later. We went to the appointment and by now my mom was in pain and fed up. The hearing aides were remove then Jaqueline looked in my mom's ear canal and said there was a problem and a doctor would have to look at my mom's ear. By this time my mom decided she did not want hearing aides and we were well within our "free trial" period. We declined the doctor at Sohet and went to my mom's Primary Care doctor where it was found she had a ruptured eardrum and a fungal infection in that ear. Of course a person will get a fungal infection with trapped moisture in a warm place. Then the bills start coming in. They charged us for the hearing aides anyways and it took me 2 visits to their office and numerous phone calls to get the charges removed. We did pay for the hearing test because we did get that then the next month another bill arrives so I went into the office again because I was told over the phone that if we paid $200 that the rest of the charges would be forgiven. I went and paid the next day. Then bills continued to arrive and I went again and was told the bill was settled. Then another bill the next month again I contacted the office and was told the bill was settled. Now, about a year latter my mom gets a bill from a Collection Agency demanding payment for Sohet. My mom never kept the hearing aides that were on free trial. THIS IS A MONEY HUNGRY ESTABLISHMENT THAT LACKS QUALITY SERVICE AND PREYS ON THE ELDERLY. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU VALUE YOUR EAR HEALTH AND YOUR MONEY! read more

We used the office in Seal Beach to try out new hearing aids for our mother who is 89. The office came recommended by a friend. Our experience was awful! To summarize, they are very high pressure sales people and their business office is inept. Our story--Mom agreed to try some new hearing aids for a "free 30 day trial" offered Shohet Ear Associates.. The cost of hearing aids was about $7,500. The "free trial" required a large deposit of about $3,500. Mom was tested and fitted with the new hearing aids. She used them for about two weeks and didn't like them. She tried to return them at that time but they insisted that the new ones just needed an adjustment and they PRESSURED her into keeping them for awhile longer. After another week she still didn't like the hearing aids and she wanted her money back. Feeling intimidated by the high-pressure staff she asked me to go along with her to return the hearing aids. When we returned the hearing aids they would not give us a refund on the spot. Instead we were promised a refund within 2 weeks. After 3 weeks with no refund Mom made repeated calls and each time she was promised that the refund would arrive shortly. My mother finally did receive her refund after another family member intervened on her behalf. During this whole process my 89 year old mother was very upset about the way she was treated and her inability to get her money back. Their business practices are really inexcusable! read more

I am very thankful for Dr. Shohet and his team of professionals. I took my 3 year old son for a hearing evaluation and I was pretty sure he wouldn't cooperate but I was wrong. The two audiologist were very experienced and managed to get my rambunctious boy to pay attention and "play" with them. Then I was amazed when Dr Shohet met with us and he had such a great talent with again getting my son to cooperate. He even scooped some ear wax without my little one kicking and screaming! Last month. after receiving an offer to FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HEARING AIDS AND CELL PHONES AND THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY, I made an appointment. After waiting almost 45 minutes, I saw a PERSON, don't remember their name who after testing me, said "I don't have anything to show you but there is someone here from WIDEX if you want to have a demonstration". Well after wasting over an hour, I agreed to the demo. 1. Ive worn hearing aids since 1980. Not a newbie. . . 2. In order to enhance my hearing with an IPHONE, i had to wear a thing around my neck. 3. I was not comfortable with the "thing" because everyone around me would hear the conversation. Well, I decided against the WIDEX DREAM and was given another appointment to meet with this person. I received a phone msg.about a week prior and told the PERSON was no longer with SHOHET EAR ASSOCIATES and I had an appointment at their Sear Beach Office. Geez, why would I drive down to Seal Beach when I'm minutes to the Newport Beach Office? Therefore, I cancelled. AH, new problem. I went to another audiologist. Liked everything that Mark of Hearing Enhancement Center in Costa Mesa said. . .after all I'd been seeing him over 20 years and he is a "straight shooter" when you ask questions about the different hearing aids and the technology. However, my brother told me he received a $1000 check after getting new hearing aids. WOW, $1000! So I called all the insurance numbers I have only to find that in order for them to accommodate you, you must have a PRESCRIPTION! Okay, I called SOHET EAR ASSOCATES. I explain my dilemna to whom ever answer their phone on 3 March 2015. I said that I needed a prescription from a doctor there in order to get hearing aids covered even partly by my insurance and that I was already there, had hearing tests and had an appointment this week that was changeo Seal Beach but it wasn't with a DOCTOR who could write a prescription . I asked for an appointment and asked to make sure the Dr. would write me a prescription. She said he would see me but he would NOT write me a prescription. WHAT? ? ? So I ask all of you . . . WHY GO TO A DOCTOR IN NEED OF A PRESCRIPTION IF HE WILL NOT WRITE ONE/ TOLD HER I SAW NO REASON TO SPEND MY TIME AND MONEY SEEING A DOCTOR WHO WOULD NOT WRITE ME A PERSCRIPTION AND SAID ' I GUESS I DON'T NEED HIM THEN". I was just diagnosed with tinnitus and went to see Dr. Joni Doherty in Seal Beach. From the first moment to the last, I was treated with respect, empathy and kindness. Samantha, the audiologist who tested me, was so kind and understanding and helped put me at ease. I now know I have hearing loss and that hearing aids are in my future to help on that front as well as deal with the tinnitus. Dr. Doherty was attentive and explained everything clearly. Dr. Doherty saw my daughter in the summer of 2016 as she was having some issues with her surgical site one year post surgery for a benign schwannoma. The surgery was performed in Seattle, but my daughter was living with us in San Diego when she came to the practice. Dr. Doherty listened, was thorough in her exam and history and brought a compassionate presence to the room. After my daughter has seen more than 15 different doctors in the past 2 years for multiple issues there is no one who is as knowledgeable, practical and compassionate as Dr. Doherty. We love Dr. Shohet and this practice! My daughter has been to both offices -- Newport Beach and Seal Beach. They are both great. My daughter had a bacterial AND fungal ear infection. Dr. S took great care of her. He went above and beyond for us, which is really great as my daughter has special needs. He is very knowledgeable and his bedside manner is lovely -- very sweet and patient. The office staff is very helpful and efficient, and the offices (especially the new one!) are beautiful.
