A very New York City experience…read more Having previously purchased a mattress online and having to return it because I hated it, I didn't want to go through that experience again. I stopped by a few mattress shops in the city, but they were very small and many just carried the major online brands that were non-traditional mattresses (memory foam, no coils). A google search brought me to Craig's: a lot of glowing Yelp reviews, Google reviews, and a New Yorker article describing this "speakeasy" mattress shop. Given that Craig's is located right by my office, I made an appointment online. As others have mentioned, be prepared that Craig's is located on the second floor of an office building and that your appointment will be 1:1. Craig will ask you what kind of mattress you like, cut a piece of cloth for you, and place it on various mattresses as you try them. You never feel rushed or pressured. He IS chatty, so be prepared for that too. I tried many mattresses and ultimately found a mattress that I liked and placed an order (the first one that he showed me!). Fast forward to the day before delivery. I had told Craig I was moving in the morning and would need the mattress to come after noon, but when I got my delivery window it was the first one in the morning. He called the delivery company and they wanted to schedule it for the evening, but he correctly pointed out that because I was in a doorman building they might not let the delivery people up in the evening. He gave me two options: he would go meet them at my building in the morning and let them in OR he would come in the evening and help bring it up to my apartment if they wouldn't let the delivery people up. What? This is a crazy level of service. He also must have spent an hour on the phone between talking to me and the delivery company trying to figure this all out. It turned out my building was able to let them in without Craig being present, but his wilingness to go so far and beyond will not be forgotten by me!

He advised us to go to Macy's which has the best selection. He never pressured us to buy. We did go to Macy's plus one other store but ultimately decided that Craig had the best bed for the best price. We appreciated the time he took and the no-pressure approach. We now have our new bed and are totally thrilled with it. I highly recommend Craig as he knows his stuff and gives you the time and space to comfortably come to a decision.

Bob's furniture shows you the total set price and individual pieces' price which was a much better set up than neighboring furniture stores that try to convince you to buy sets than pieces for "greater savings." The furniture store while overwhelming with the amount of furniture inside had a certain organization to it that allowed you to feel the difference between quality sets and more pricey sets. First mattress fro Futonland was satisfactory but it was all memory foam, as these mattress was new. It did last 10 years but had it for 12 years. Otis mattress, HALEY 110 is what I dreamed about for years. The depth (8-10 inches), is for real whereas I sit or lie down while I am way above as if I had a box spring underneath the futon frame. I don't need to struggle anymore off the futon. I can't even describe what it is like to sleep on it...!!! You can't any better than the best mattress for a bed itself. The firmness and depth is so powerful, while trying to fold the mattress onto frame, I thought the mattress was another model because I couldn't get it to fold. But I folded the side which was already folded in the box which made it easier, tried the other side again and both sides folded onto futon frame. I hope my description is understood. Kept mattress on floor for 48 hours, flipped on 24 hour time period, to let the mattress expand. On the folded side in the box, I had to place weighted laundry baskets and other items on two other sides for the mattress to completely touch the floor evenly. Mission accomplished. I purchased the mattress through email communication, instead of the in-store although I live in NY. The service online was excellent service, professional and last time I bought mattress in store, I noticed phone conversation & online service was a way for their business. So near or far - you can business with them and Futonland seems to be the only real store still in business for futon mattresses or frames, etc.

He was nice enough in store and made it clear that he would honor the sale price I was considering on the day, if I decided to make the purchase later, after the sale ended. I did, and he did. But when there was a mix-up, and the bed I wanted wasn't available after he had rung up the order (it was the last one left in the whole city!), he more than made up for it. He called me back quite late in the evening (working late to make sure his customers are satisfied) to explain the situation, and offered me a much better bed for the same amount (which, remember, was the SALE price of the much cheaper bed). So I stuck with him and gratefully accepted his offer. Thanks Carlos! Part 2 - Delivery This went smoothly as far I could tell. I had to arrange my housemate to receive it while I wasn't there. The driver called me to confirm he was on his way (well within the reasonable 3 hour window arranged for delivery), and my housemate received the bed with no problems. Part 3 - the actual bed! I have no complaints. The bed is super-comfortable and I am sleeping blissfully a month in. We had some trouble putting together the frame, but that was probably more to do with our lack of technical skills. It's stable enough now.
