My wife and I were visiting Glen Rose, TX for the first time and Shoo-Fly Soda Shop was highly recommended by so many as we were building out our itinerary for the weekend. Everyone was RIGHT. We had a wonderful experience at this Soda Shop and our taste buds just cannot forget the delicious shakes we had here. On one side of the restaurant is a small, old school diner-style seating area, and on the other is miscellaneous merchandise for sale. It was colorful, lively and the aroma of ice cream and waffle cones was overwhelmingly good. The staff behind the counter were so nice to us and shared their recommendations. I decided to order the "Raspberry Nutella Shake." It was exactly what it sounds like--ice cream, raspberry, and Nutella all in one. SO. DELICIOUS. I highly recommend it. It was creamy, sweet, and just perfect. It came topped with whipped cream and a cherry. We cannot wait to come back the next time we're in town and also can't wait to tell our friends and family who would go to Glen Rose to make sure they make a stop here! One of the other stores was still open near closing, so we popped in here to check it out. They have an ice cream bar and lots of candy. We didn't get anything, but there were some cool things like dinosaur ornaments. They even had these old-style mint gummies. Staff was friendly. read more

I love that they revived a soda shop from the 50s! The prices were fair/reasonable. We went during a Spring Break weekend (unintentionally), and this place was PACKED. Despite the chaos, the staff here were very kind and courteous! Not a lot of seating. There's a few small tables in the store and outside on the sidewalk. The bar area can sit about 7-10 people. Large gift store with assortment of Knick knacks and gag gifts. read more

We stopped in here after pizza on the square. It's a typical novelty store with all sorts of stuff to tempt the spontaneous purchase. Lots of candies including some chocolates. Not sure if they are made on site or not, but they looked really good. They also have ice cream. We bought some dinosaur souvenirs for the little one and some taffy. We were in Glen Rose for 6 days and we went to Shoo-flys 5 times! I know, don't judge us. We were having fun! . We had ice cream and sweet treats five of the times and lunch four times. Everyone that worked at Shoo-fly's was AMAZING! The manager Nick was so nice and our kids had a blast interacting with him. Selene and Paxton were also great and the owners, Jerry and his wife were very engaging as well. The lunch food was excellent. Reuben sandwich was the best my wife had ever had. I may have had 5 root beer shakes in 5 days. They were amazing. Our kids loved the ice cream combos. Candy, toys, great little home goods and decorations. Can't go wrong here! This is a fun little soda shop on the Glen Rose square. They have a nice selection of ice cream, shakes, and soda. We were greeted by an extremely friendly lady working behind the bar. She was very patient as we took forever to decide on what we want. It's pretty impossible to get three kids to agree on 2 flavors to share. We finally decided on strawberry shortcake and peach. While she made them we walked around and looked at everything else that they sell. They have a large selection of candy and canned veggies. The shakes only took a few minutes and she was nice enough to separate them into smaller shakes so that we could share easily. I really enjoyed the peach shake. It was very creamy and had bits of peaches in it. The strawberry was good too but nothing special to write about. They have a ton of different types of bottled soda. This place is such a gem! I had posted in a FB group asking suggestions for a fun place to go with a group of relatives after graduation & several people suggested this soda shop. I had actually already considered coming here, but thought they closed at 7. The owner saw my post & made the effort to message me & let me know they would be staying open a little later since it was Memorial Day weekend & said if we wanted to come by they would stay open. We brought in a group that consisted of 6 adults & 10 children ranging from 1 yr old up to 18 years old. There were 2 other families in line ahead of us. One of the staff members took their order while another quickly came out from behind the counter & came to us to ask our order. I asked for some suggestions, because there so many options I couldn't decide what I wanted. I told him that I wanted something really chocolatey, but unique. He suggested the Raspberry Nutella Shake (which is also what 2 ladies in line ahead of me ordered.) It was AMAZING!!! Now I will be tempted to make the hour drive to Glen Rose every week just to go get another one The service was actually much faster than I would've expected. I was impressed at how fast they got our orders handed out. They have wooden checker & marble boards for the kids to play on & LOTS of cute Knick-knacks, home decor, boutique clothes & souvenirs to browse through.
