I took my family and my 14-year old daughter's friend to Shoot Smart on a Sunday afternoon, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The "Q-less" line worked great, even better than I thought. We started on one of the public lanes, and after about 19 minutes a staff member asked if we still wanted a private lane (I was in the queue) and we shifted right over. The private lane is a few dollars more, but my daughter's friend was a first time shooter and a private lane was much easier to instruct on. The staff was great. Young, enthusiastic and polite. You can rent from a a very wide selection of firearms (mostly pistols, but a few long guns) which I'd recommend before buying so you know what works for you. Ammo, targets, eyes and ears - they've got it all. Ranges were well lit and well ventilated, and all range and target equipment worked well. read more

These guys were great. As a first time owner of a firearm. Felt a bit out of my element ,but, the whole process is getting much more comfortable. I've had a crash course in firearm ownership, parts, how to handle properly, etc. Then went to the gunsmith connected with this company and was professional, informative. Since I started shouting here, this place has been changing and transforming constantly. The service is everything I would expect in a place like Shoot Smart. The personal, both ladies and gentlemen, are very knowledgeable, calm, polite, professional and easy going. Safety is observed at all times and the atmosphere is easy going. There are public lanes, private suites and even a gunsmith shop. Prices are good and if it's your birthday you will probably end up with free of charge lane (Just a maybe). Variety of semi automatic rifles and hand guns are available for rental and there are also new and used guns for sale. Ammunition is available too for purchase. Very busy during the weekend so plan ahead for a wait. There's a very comfortable lounge with viewing area towards the shooting lanes. Eye and ear protection is provided and there's a good variety of targets available for purchase. I guess that for an indoor range it's fine and up to par with expectations. If you want to shoot long range, outdoor or shotgun, that's probably not the place for you. I totally recommend this place and definitely will come back. read more

I haven't used their indoor range but I do use their Gunsmiths. Knowledgeable and very friendly folks that have helped me through a few issues with older firearms, and they have also mounted several of my scopes and always use the proper torque settings and test for proper eye relief and cheek placement. I while attempting to get some shooting practice yesterday and again today, I have been disappointed with the process to check in and get a the North Freeway location. Yesterday when I checked in I was told there were two people ahead of me and shortly received a text stating the wait was 41 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes in the parking lot I get another text stating that there were 4 four people ahead of me and the wait was 39 minutes. It is hard to imagine how the queue changed from two ahead of me to four ahead of me and the wait time change from 41 minutes to 39 minutes over a half hour. This morning I checked the online queuing app before leaving home and was told there was no wait. 15 minutes later I arrive at the facility to find the parking lot full (not even one open space), 6 people waiting to get in the door and queuing app still saying there is no wait. I am not inclined to waste any more of my time trying to get into Shootsmart. read more

The staff was wonderful and very helpful. They were very patient when asking questions about different guns and what to use. You have to purchase your own ammo when you arrive but the prices are very comparable to going to the store to buy them. There are lots of choices of guns to use which makes it fun. I haven't taken any of their classes. I like a range where I can bring my concealed handgun and practice, period. There are other gun ranges like Elks that require you to purchase their ammo because of "legal" exposure issues. They have you buy their ammo because they want your money. Shoot Smart on the other hand lets you bring your ammo. I usually pick mine up at the local military base. And I get my targets through Amazon. If you come by Shoot Smart during happy hour, it's just $5. My own ammo; my own targets and five bucks! What a deal! The employees are friendly. The lanes are quite and enjoyable. They have added on private lanes in the past months for personalized training. I read some of the reviews below griping about Groupon coupons and other stuff. For crying out loud, if you have an issue with an employee, let the management know then. Don't bitch to the world about it on Yelp without taking action yourself. I have never had a problem with Shoot Smart. A great place and I am very happy with their location off I-35 in Keller. read more

My first interaction with Shoot Smart was not a good one; however, they went above and beyond what I consider exemplary customer service, in an attempt to earn my business. I won't go into detail as far as what initially happened, but I will say that they made "things right," and then some. I tried to like Shoot Smart, but I just couldn't. Pros: They have a "shooters lounge" with soft drinks and snacks ($1). There is comfortable seating with a clear view of the range if there are any observers that don't want to shoot. Knowledgeable, friendly staff (see cons below) Automated target retrieval systems. Parking spaces are at a premium so they offer valet parking. In-and-out customers can/should use the front spaces if possible. If you are going to be there for a little bit use the valet. On-line and call head lane reservations. Competitive pricing. Public lane rentals are affordable, ammunition is slightly higher than average ($21 for 50rds of 9mm). Rentals were a little high to average. Cons First and foremost. I did not feel overly safe here. There is no range master on the lanes. There is a staff member in the "shooters lounge" with a limited view of what's actually happening on the lanes. In addition to no range master on the range. The employee that was in the lounge was talking to another waiting shooter. The employee was telling the shooter how you want a higher lane # because most shooters are right handed. He made a motion with his hands like he was mishandling a gun demonstrating how much more likely to be shot by a misfire in lane 1 than lane 10. Probably true, but not good open public conversation to instill confidence. While the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly one or two of them were just a little off center. Kind of creepy actually. The place just didn't feel clean to me. Maybe I've become too spoiled at my preferred range. It wasn't totally disgusting, but it just felt dirty to me. The "private lanes" offer practice on holster work, double-tap, rapid fire, full auto, rifles, etc. That's really cool. It can be hard to find a place to practice advanced skills. The other selling point of the private suites is the "private" concrete dividers between the shooters. The problem is that it is still an open range, you just have a wall between you and the next shooter. This set up makes it twice as loud to shoot. The sound of your own shots echos off of the two concrete walls two feet from your head. And the open down-field range means that when the guy next to you is rapid firing with his semi-auto you still get the pleasure of the sound from his cannon. I can't believe I paid extra for an experience that was worse than a public lane would have been. The place is small and the wait was over an hour at 10:45 on Saturday. Even more aggravating is that I asked for "first-available" private or public lane. I was told private would be faster and that he would do that for us. The problem was that we ended up waiting twice as long. By noon there were new people that arrived 30 minutes after us that were shooting first. It was extremely frustrating. NOTE: I just shot two weeks after xmas and only a few weeks after the Sandy Hook shootings. All ranges and gun shops are crazy busy right now. I don't know how a "normal" Saturday morning might be. I can say that my preferred range is much faster and better staffed than Shoot Smart. I did not rent, but the guns in the case looked pretty old and dirty. They did not appear to be in great shape. NOTE: I did not shot or even hold a rental. Just my observation through the case. Overall this place was fair. If it's close and convenient the prices are competitive and you should have an OK experience. I personally won't be going back. read more

Great place to shoot and learn how to shoot your gun. I have been here 3 times and each time with a friend that taught me how to hold, load and shoot a pistol. They are usually very busy and have a happy hour in the late afternoon. You can sign up for a lane online and then show up and they will put you inline for the next available. You can rent out a private suite or a lane. they have several pistols and guns you can rent and they do sell ammo and targets. Once you sign in and sign the waiver and provide your drivers license you wait in the nice waiting room for a lane or your private suite to open up. They will call you when its your turn. Be sure to bring your goggles and ear protection. They will provide glasses and ear protection but they have been worn by others. They clean them but to me its icky and gross. Bring your own. The time you spend in the lane is unlimited and its easy to to set up the targets and work them. I will warn you that you should be paying attention at all times as there are shell flying from all angles. I plan to take their CHL class next year. read more

I love Shoot Smart! It's a very comfortable place to shoot, though I wish they would have added on more private lanes when they built the new addition, they're so nice but I've only been able to get on them once since the queue is almost always full on the weekends. I took my CHL class here and it was a very positive experience. The staff is wonderful, knowledgable, and eager to help. To the reviewer that doesn't feel safe: they have so many cameras that they watch from the front, you don't have to worry if the RSO isn't in immediate sight, they can and do see everything going on, even on the private lanes. I've never had a problem here and often see the RSO rush in to correct someone if they're accidentally breaking rules. Wonderful range. read more

An expensive way to find out I'm a lousy shot. I came here Saturday with a Meetup group. I clearly did not do enough research. I didn't realize the standard gun rentals were mostly 9mms. I did not realize the rest of the group had purchased Groupons. I did not realize that the lounge resembles more a lounge at an auto garage. My aim is better with the .22 and revolvers. I'd been twice to an outdoor gun range and liked it well enough. I do need more practice with a 9mm, but without anyone in our group with a vast amount of experience, I was left to figure it out. Not a fun way to blow through $50 in less than a hour. I would recommend bringing your own guns and ammo. If it is going to be your first time, definitely go with someone with experience or take lessons. read more

I've had my eye on Shoot Smart since their "Best Gun Range" nod last year in Fort Worth, Texas Magazine. When an Amazon Local deal offered a good price on private lessons, I jumped and booked a class for myself and my wife. We're total newbies - never held a firearm, certainly never shot one - and so keep that in mind throughout this review! Shoot Smart is located up near north Fort Worth, and it's easy to find. I didn't have a problem with parking, but we did arrive before 3:00 PM on a Friday afternoon. (Note that traffic is pretty insane going up 35 - if you have an appointment, make sure you allot plenty of extra time to getting there!) The inside is clear and organized, and checking in for our class was fast. We were about fifteen minutes early, and we passed the time in the Shooter's Lounge where you can sit, thumb through magazines, snack or watch people shoot. Our class started right on time and our instructor, Marily, was great - she took a really visual approach to instruction, which my wife and I were able to follow well. We didn't ever feel rushed or hurried, and Marily was ultra patient with our fumbling and many, many questions! My wife shot about fifteen rounds, and I shot ten. She far out-shot me! We've kept the rest of our bullets for a return visit; keeping your stance, grip, breathing, aiming and follow-through all in mind at the same time was pretty tiring, and we need time to let everything "soak in" a bit. I'm reserving that fifth star for a second (or third, or...) visit. As is, though, we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. It was fun! read more

I have carried a gun for over 25 yrs due to my employment and have spent many hours in classrooms being trained to shoot yearly. I took five family members all of which were female and had never shot a weapon to Shoot Smart. I have good ideal of what to expect from a gun range and was extremely suprised with the level of safety, and quality of the range at Shoot Smart. They have a private area where you can be with your guest and teach them yourself at what ever pace you would like to go. The staff there are unbelievably patient and will answer each and every question and go over them more than once. If they are crowed they have a paging system which sends you an email letting you know your range is ready. The entire family was hesitie to go but came out happier and stating they had more fun than an amuzement park and the kindness of the staff. If you have been to many public ranges you will find that the staff needs a classes on service to the public, they are not law enforcement or combat troops. I have been to many public gun ranges in the DFW area but none of the calibre and professionalism of Shoot Smart. read more

Shoot Smart is by far my favorite range in the Metroplex. It is a state-of-the-art indoor range that is kept remarkable clean and safe. The staff is friendly and helpful and does not impose an "overbearing" presence that many other ranges manage to convey. The range officers cheerfully give valuable shooting advice and tips that, at least for me and my wife, has easily offset what we've spent on range fees. Like many, I'm concerned about what the next few months/years will bring. The wife doesn't like my rifle for home defense. Neither of us had spent time shooting pistols. Went here on a friends recommendation. They did not disappoint. Ammo wasn't ridiculously priced. We shot 4 different weapons in 9mm. She picked out a Beretta M9 and we are on our way to learning to shoot it accurately. The sound of rifle level noise next door was startling in the private lane but we adapted quickly. The tall, tall young man who took us into the lane was very patient with our complete inexperience. He showed us what and how to do things. He answered our questions with easy to understand language instead of range lingo. Being able to send about 150 rounds down range with zero problems was so much fun. My only issue is that my wife was a trophy wife 40 years ago so she's 6 years younger than me. This old man can't hold a pistol still for sh...squat. She shot much better than I did. I'll stick with my 30-30 and we'll defend our homes we'll I think. read more

It was a crowded morning at Shoot Smart, but there was plenty of staff on hand. Check-in was smooth and the young man that assisted was professional and provided helpful information as it was our first visit. The facility was very clean and plenty of signage that directed you to check-in, restrooms, snack station, waiting area and shooting lane. The waiting area offered very comfortable chairs with a large flat screen TV. Staff has a great presence and wears shirts that clearly notes them as "go-to" people. Safety was obviously their #1 priority followed up by customer satisfaction. Lanes were well marked and monitored by staff. We took our own weapons and ammo. Although they were very busy we were never rushed. Our only complaint was the temperature on the range. We were there about 10:30am and it was very warm. They had floor fans but it was still borderline hot. Had it been more comfortable we would have stayed longer. Waiting and shopping area very comfortable. read more

A great first experience with shooting at a range. The people at the counter (several of them because they were pretty busy on this Saturday morning) and the range officers were friendly and very helpful. My wife and I had not shot guns in many years and definitely needed some pointers and coaching. They were all patient and helpful. Pricing seems to be in line with other places. They have a large selection of rental guns that you can switch out as often as you like as long as you have, or are willing to buy the correct ammo. We used 4 different guns while we were there. I thought we might overpay for ammo, but after looking around once we got home, it looks right in line with buying the same ammo at Cabelas or Bass Pro. We'll definitely be back and probably take the kids to let them try it out as well. Great place! read more

Though I am not a member, I have been going to the Ft. Worth location since it opened. I both shoot, and have had at least 5 firearms transfers, and at least one in stock firearms purchase there. Friendly staff allways and everytime, clean, pleasent atmospere no matter if you are new to shooting or a long time shooter. Nice waiting lounge if its real busy. Ran very orderly. A great place for new shooters to take classes and ease into gun ownership correctly.. There are Female instructors, and classes for females. Large selection of rental guns to Find what is right for you. Constant improvements and rennovation to the facilities. They really strive to be the best Indoor range in the area. Pros: - reasonable lane rental prices with no time limits - as shooting ranges go, they do a better job than most at keeping it clean - the staff are great - professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful - you can shoot just about any ammo you care to bring (no steel core bullets - check the website for the restrictions), including reloads, pistol, and rifle; they do sell ammo as well at prices ranging from very good to typical store prices (note: if you you use one of their guns, you have to use factory ammo) - pay a few bucks more for a private suite lane and you get a bit more room, can holster draw, and rapid fire - a fairly extensive selection of rental guns (pistols and rifles), in good condition and kept reasonably clean - pay one flat rate and you can rotate out and shoot as many of their guns as you like - great to try before you buy. - if you shoot their often, they have annual membership plans which let you shoot at reduced prices - discount prices on Mon-Thurs from 2-4pm - check the website for details - you can bring your own targets, or buy theirs - an in-house gunsmith and they do FFL transfers - they offer CHL and other training (I haven't used them for this) Cons: - only 15 yards - while they allow most rifle and pistol calibers, they do not allow shotguns - can be crowded on weekends read more

We went with our family during the week after Christmas. I signed in online, but was told if you are onsite, you'll get in faster. We then went to get our "suite", and were told it would be about an hour. Almost 3 hours later, half our party left out of frustration. My mom and dad stayed and were told they were the next in line. After waiting another 45 minutes they were told they were 6th in line! They had to complain to get a lane, even though they had been physically there almost 4 hours waiting their "turn". I will be making any purchase I had planned at the gun show instead, and will go anywhere else I can find to shoot. I wasted an entire day of my vacation waiting in this place with my family and not one of the 10 employees ever asked or showed any concern with how long we had been waiting, standing right in front of them. read more

This place has professional staff with actual name tags on and wear matching polo shirts so you know who is who !! Very clean environment ... You can breath clean air!! First time I've been to a firing range, so not sure exactly what to expect. I had a groupon for 2 people to shoot in a lane, get 4 targets, 100 rounds and gun rental that fit the rounds. I really liked this place! Everything was very clean, professional and safe. They had a viewing room so you could watch without being right in with the shooters. They also allowed us to bring our firearms/bullets. The people working were also very nice, polite and helpful. They weren't pushy to the costumers that were obviously more advanced in their firearm knowledge, but they were there for me being a beginner. read more

Value is about average for the industry and it can get a little warm from firing, but every time I go we leave with a smile. It's paper targets and can get crowded, so be sure to use their online check in. If you what more, you need an outdoor range, but for full service offered indoor, this is the go to place for the shooters in my life. Some complain about rapid fire or holster draw, but you only have that issue if you use their traditional lanes, the suites offer the best value for new and experienced shooters and I have yet to have a problem shooting anything: canned, full auto, double tap or just about anything else I would want for indoor paper shooting. This is an indoor range with nice facilities and a friendly staff. They have a nice lounge area, with coffee and softdrinks (not free). The range officers were also good at doing their jobs. That is, they had the perfect balance between making everyone stay safe and not being power hungry jerks. The only less than desirable thing is that the max distance was about 12 yards. They have some rifles available for rent, but that doesn't make too much sense, given the distance. Even for pistol, it would have been nice to get a little distance. I did not rent anything, so I cannot comment on that experience other than to say there appeared to be a large, decent handgun selection. They also had a Kriss there available for rent. The place did seem a bit small, and I could see it getting crowded easily. But, I was there at a peak time (Sunday afternoon) and it wasn't at all. read more

First and foremost, I did not think the range environment was safe. I was left with the impression that by renting a suite rather than a lane, I was being charged for a safer environment. I believe that every customer should have the same level of safety rather than using it as a marketing tool. In addition, the staff was less than helpful and courteous. I have only seen this caliber of people skills when dealing with my company IT people. They seem to be comprised of the kind of people that give gun owners a bad name and there was one in particular that appeared to be a serial killer in training. The management was very arrogant and condescending when I asked some rather simple questions. True enough they don't need my business as an individual but at some point collectively you are dependent on customers. I signed up for a beginner shoot class with my daughter. The class was too large and could not accommodate all of the kids on range at same time. This lead to very "rushed" times on the range and not a lot of actual shooting for kids. Was a complete waste of my money and time. Disappointing! read more
