I recently purchased my first gun for self-defense and was absolutely terrified of it. Having no safety training or any experience with firearms, I left it in its packaging in my closet despite not even buying ammo yet. After a private training session with Grant today (about 2 hours), I left feeling much more confident about how to safely handle, practice, and use this for self-defense if I ever need to. Grant took the time to go over safety extensively before even picking up our guns which was important to me as it was my first concern with owning a firearm. He teaches basic gun safety as well as range etiquette for any experience level. After learning about safety, Grant was able to go through each component of the gun, explaining how to properly check if it's unloaded, how to load a magazine, how to hold the gun, how to aim, proper posture, and provided personalized feedback for each person in our group. He gave us different techniques and exercises to target specific mistakes such as flinching from anticipating the gunshot or having the wrong grip. I left this session feeling confident about safely handling my firearm and was given homework by Grant on how to improve and practice so I can use this if ever needed. These guys are shooting instructor rock stars! Grant and Zach are consummate pros in every sense of the phrase. My group of 6 was there for a bachelor party and only one of us had any significant shooting experience. They spent 30 minutes on all things safety, keeping it engaging and fun while still giving you the confidence you need to feel comfortable operating the guns. What I was most impressed with was the fact that we could barely hit the broad side of a barn before they got their hands on us, constantly giving helpful, effective pointers and corrections to our stances, grips, and sight alignments on the firearms. By the end of the 2 hour course, all of us without exception were consistently and systematically hitting our targets and felt ready to take on sniper Marine duties! Grant and Zach are also both awesome guys! Funny, engaging, and great teachers. There was never a moment where we felt we weren't in good hands. Had a 2 hour one-on-one session with Grant Sunday afternoon at their new location. Am an avid hunter, but usually spend my range time sighting in rifles for deer season, and am a decent shot with a rifle. Gets the job done. But, I have always felt my pistol shooting could use some work - since I never really practice, and really havent been taught anything beyond "here's how you load it, here's how you use the sight, here's some beer cans - have fun" from my Dad as a kid. After an evaluation of how I usually shoot, I learned how my stance and grip were the biggest contributors to my poor marksmanship. After working on both, and applying the new technique to various skills exercises, often with a timer, my speed and accuracy improved. I now was hitting 2 steel targets in a transition exercise in 1.48 seconds between the 2 shots. I was impressed how these seemingly minor changes could improve my marksmanship to such a huge degree. The addition of timing my motion and shots was very helpful seeing on the clock- the incremental changes from the beginning of class to the end was reflected on the timer. Seeing this visual data really made the lessons stick. Grant also took some slo motion video with a phone of my terrible original grip style firing and the proper grip style firing, and I could see how much the pistol jumped in my hand compared to the new way. Really helped hit it home for me as a novice. It was very eye opening, and I can wait to go back and continue to improve my my pistol skills! High recommendation. Good targets, gear in good shape, professional and very encouraging all round. I do suggest having a rigid holster that fits your personal pistol you will be practicing with. I didnt have one, but wont make that mistake again! read more

Just wrapped up my first class with these guys. What can I say? Absolutely stellar. Professionalism, prime focus on safety, quality instruction and a sense that these guys really, really know what they're doing. I was impressed with the 360 degree coverage of "what if something happens" from how to apply a tourniquet to precise instructions on where to go and who to call if case of an accident. Note that the guys said that while this never happens, it's best to be ready if it does. OK, so on to the handling and shooting - excellent all around instructions, perfect pace and a constant focus on safety. It's incredible how little I knew and know compared to these guys. I'm looking forward to my next class and I'd highly recommend Bear Arms to anyone who wants to be a confident and safe situation de-escalator and protector of "the good". read more

I am a new gun owner this year and while I have had some experience shooting for fun at ranges, I felt it was my responsibility to become more experienced with my pistol. I also thought, why not grab some girlfriends and make this fun group experience. Grant was quick to respond to my questions and worked with all of us to get us scheduled right away. I attended a Bear Arms shooting day for the first time yesterday for a Guided Pistol Practice. This was two hours of shooting. The first time it was all on my own with an instructor stopping by to offer suggestions on how I could shoot better. The second hour was a series of simple shooting drills designed to add skills and increase confidence. In the class were a couple brand new shooters as well as experienced. The class was set up in such a way that the new shooters didn't hold up the class and the experienced shooters didn't overwhelm the new. I will defiantly take a more in-depth class from Bear Arms in the future. read more
