My husband and I kicked off the new year with a resolution to try restaurants we've never been to…read morein Middle Georgia, and 3rd & Cherry confidently strutted its way to the top of the list. Located in Downtown Macon, parking is available via street parking. Finding a close spot on the weekend is like winning the Mega Million, possible, but don't count on it. We lucked up on this night and found a spot directly across from the restaurant. As we made our way to the entrance, we were unexpectedly greeted by a woman passionately yelling obscenities at us. Nothing like a little downtown ambiance to set the mood. Thankfully, the heavy police presence on every corner made me feel safe enough to proceed to the restaurant. Once inside, the chaos faded instantly. We were welcomed by a gregarious and friendly staff, informed them of our reservation, and were seated immediately. On this particular Saturday, they weren't overly busy, so we even had the luxury of choosing which booth best suited our comfort level. The atmosphere is intimate and upscale without being stuffy. Think dim lighting, elegant music, exposed ceilings, and décor that says "rustic charm" but also "yes, this entrée will cost more than $30." Our waiter was professional, attentive, and genuinely pleasant, the kind of service that makes you relax and stop checking the time. We started with cocktails: I ordered the strawberry lemon drop martini, and my husband opted for an old fashioned. Both were well-crafted, smooth, and strong enough to make us forget about the crazy lady outside. For appetizers, we each ordered the crab cake. You get one small crab cake, but it was tasty and respectable by Middle Georgia standards. Entrées are à la carte, so order accordingly. I ordered the Chilean sea bass with Brussels sprouts and spinach, while my husband chose the salmon with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Both fish dishes were cooked perfectly and tasted fresh, with sauces that paired beautifully. The Brussels sprouts were crispy, flavorful, and addictive. My husband said his mashed potatoes were possibly the creamiest he's ever had. All of the food was outstanding. Dessert options include their 3rd & Cherry cobbler, cheesecake, and crème brûlée. Heads up: desserts are made to order and take about 20 minutes. Translation, order dessert early unless you're prepared to sit there long enough to contemplate life choices. The restaurant and restrooms were clean, which always earns bonus points. Overall, we had a lovely experience at 3rd & Cherry. It's an excellent choice for a special occasion, date night, or anytime you want to feel a little fancy without leaving Middle Georgia. We'll definitely be back.

Our visit started off a bit rocky. Lots of people asking if we'd been helped and no one helping…read more Someone left a plastic cup on the hostess stand with a weird beverage looked odd. Finally, the "owner" rushed up to seat us. Pleasant fellow, good personality and pleasant to talk to. Apologized and we moved on. The restaurant is almost cut in half with seating on both sides of door. Plenty of metered parking (free after 8pm). Luckily, we were sat in a cozy booth near the windows but we did have a reservation. The other side was more tables and less date worthy. Bathrooms need a bit of a touch up. We ordered the crab cake and caprese to start. Average crab cake too much filler, this is a pass. The caprese however was amazing. Healthy tomato's and a fresh burrata topped with balsamic. Very good, a definite reorder. For mains, I had the fried red snapper with Parmesan risotto this comes with tostones and a dipping sauce. Large fish, nicely seasoned yet a bit over cooked to the point of being dry. Hubby had the full pork loin chop with a side of mashed potatoes. This came with a fresh chimichura sauce and tostones as well. We were celebrating a birthday (on the reservation) so we ordered the hot chocolate cake. Pretty standard. I really think these are now mass made and ordered through food delivery. It was good but can get in multiple restaurants these days. Good vanilla ice cream. Service, now this is where they easily lose a star. Half hearted, disappearing, not engaged with a touch of attitude. They weren't busy, it wasn't late. We were in great moods. Who knows. While we will visit again when in Macon, we cannot have her again.
