We're just halfway through the process, but I'm more than happy to write something now. I chose the bundle with the initial closet consultation, two 4-hr shopping trips, then another home visit to sort out all of my new outfits. Val showed up promptly at the agreed upon time and we got to work. My closet was full of dated clothes that didn't fit. I told her to be merciless and she was - in a totally fun and comfortable way. I wasn't left with much, but I knew going in that that would be the case, and we were going shopping in two days anyway. Two days later, I met Val in NYC at noon for shopping. I have no idea how long she had been at the department store before I got there, but it had to have been hours. Shoes upon shoes were lined up ready for me to try on. A store employee stood at the ready, to run and get different colors and sizes. It went seamlessly and I bought so many wonderful shoes. Shoe shopping was always frustrating for me before - well, I had never been shoe shopping like this before! After shoes, straight to a spacious suite - no regular dressing rooms for Val! She had set up the room with countless pieces for me to try on. And she didn't just have me try things on - she explained what she liked about each piece or ensemble and then genuinely wanted my feedback. She wanted me to be 100% comfortable with something or else she didn't want me to buy it. Since gaining quite a bit of weight, shopping for clothes has been torture for me - I usually end up with a bunch of things in a dressing room the size of a shower stall, and then nothing fits properly or looks good on me, so I end up leaving in tears. Val was very sensitive to my needs and I felt completely comfortable and well-taken care of. Again, we had someone hovering outside the door, just waiting for cast offs, ready to get different sizes. The time flew by, and the next thing I knew, I actually had some clothes to take home! The seamstress came in to do some pinning for alterations to a few pieces, and the store will be shipping those pieces, as well as most of my shoes because there was no way I would have been able to manage getting it all to the train! I am SO looking forward to our next shopping session - more clothes, then accessories! I don't normally splurge on things like this, but after my experience with Val, unless I'm going for just one or two things, I can't imagine ever shopping any other way! I recently hired Shop with Val to help me prepare for a new job that required a work wardrobe overhaul. Val was amazing in every way. After years of working for myself and taking a very lazy approach to getting dressed, I knew I needed *a lot* and had Val do a closet consultation so she could help me take stock of what I needed most. As soon as she stepped into my apartment, Val was nothing but kind, sensitive, and professional. We were lucky enough to have mother-daughter experiences with Valerie. My husband and I gave our daughter a shopping trip with Val as a birthday present, and my daughter invited me to share the experience with her. We met Val on a rainy Sunday at Theory (at their flagship SoHo store). Val was there with a selection of clothes picked out, ready for my daughter to try on - and with champagne, water and snacks for us both. My daughter is short, and it's difficult for her to find nice work clothes that fit her well. It was amazing - one after another - the dresses, pants, jackets, tops, were almost all perfect. We had such a wonderful experience we scheduled another shopping trip - for some dressier outfits and shoes, and again scored a hit at Lord & Taylor's in Manhattan. Val is professional, yet fun and empathetic, and easy to relate to. She's obviously got a great eye, and is great at explaining to you what to look for, and why some items might unexpectedly look better than others. After such great shopping experiences, I asked Val to do a closet consultation for me. Val was a whiz at going through the items and figuring out what to keep, showing me what to pair with what. She advises you as she goes through the clothes and does a fantastic job of organizing it all -- again teaching as she works. Sure, I could have done it myself - but not nearly half as well. My husband gave me a gift certificate to Shop With Val for my birthday, after I had lost 85 lbs and 5 sizes with the help of bariatric surgery. It was the best gift I could ever ask for. I needed a full wardrobe, and had no clue where to begin. But Val knew. I'd never used a personal shopper before, so I was excited and nervous as I completed her new client questionnaire. Mostly, I was concerned that she might not pay attention to my budget and would, instead, try to push me to spend more than I wanted to. My worries turned out to be groundless. Val and I met at Lord & Taylor, which she chose because of their 'buy more/save more' sale. She had selected a rack full of clothes, all well within my price range. Trying on the clothes, seeing how Val mixed them and matched them, and listening to her explain why she chose certain items and styles and cuts for me was both fun and enlightening. I went home that day having purchased some work clothes, some 'going out' clothes, jeans, a pair of boots and even a special occasion dress that I needed. My only regret was that we ran out of time to look for accessories. Two months later (sorry it's taken so long for me to write my review) I still look back at the photos occasionally to remember which tops or jackets Val paired with which slacks or skirt. I was referred to Val by another client of hers and she has literally changed my life. I decided to start with the closet consultation and when I met with her I immediately felt like this was the right fit. She came to my home and with her humor and warm presence made me feel comfortable enough for her to go through my closet and find the right pieces to keep and the ones that I should definitely give away. Throughout the consultation Val had a way of building my confidence but also having an amazing way with words not to make me feel embarrassed by some of the clothing that I had. Disclaimer - I had no previous experience with a stylist and had no idea what to expect. Closet Consultation - This was a positive and educational experience for me. I learned a lot about what I was wearing and how I apparently had no idea how to dress for work. I appreciated the honesty about how clothes looked on me and we managed to get the clothes I owned into categories of weekend wear and 'OK for work'. Shopping - This was a lot of fun. I was convinced it wasn't possible to find a heal that I would be comfortable wearing but I have been saved! I found out a lot about sizing from different designers and every outfit I ended up buying, I was excited to wear when I got home. Comfort is very important to me so I made that a priority before we went shopping, if I'm not comfortable - I'm not wearing it. All the clothes that were picked out to try met that criteria and if they didn't, we moved on from it. Can't say enough good things about Val! First asked Val to help my youngest daughter shop for a summer wardrobe as she was clerking at a law firm that she was hoping to get a job from upon graduation from law school, this May! Realtively spontaneously I had decided to fly to NY. By occasion I had heared in german radio about Valerie and her offer. I was directly hooked. I was searching for her online and even beeing that close to my flight she was super flexible and organized an appointment with her colleague Stacey. I had been wanting to hire someone to help me refine and upgrade my wardrobe for awhile. Working for myself, it's really easy to get stuck in wearing the same things - I wanted to step it up a bit and look more the part. Val responded right away, and we started with the closet consult - which in itself was incredibly helpful. I knew there were tons on things in there that either fit poorly, or that I wasn't really in love with anymore.
