08/05/2025, I have always had a good experience at SFW, when they were close to where I live. I'm sorry that their stores in the area I live have all closed. They had wonderful employees who were always ready to help you find what you were looking for, and a very clean, organized store. I use to work in the store I've been there for 4 years the reason for are closing is that we couldn't renew are release overall I've been in every area of the store I love the store and the people I work with with always be my family I do miss then after are closing but at end of the day I was disabled person working at the store and was dedicated to work I walk to work took me a hour and still got to work early and on time I was dedicated to my Job for those people that put one Star on here some people have issues in real life that they can't deal with sometimes the customers can be rude to us sometimes they will steal from us but at end of the day we did are jobs and took care of thr store for me I did everyone job I bounced around from produce to cashier to frozen deli meat bakery floral seafood and etc I had great friends and family there and how I miss my job so much but at the end of the day we tried and did are best to serve u and to help u all get things and again for those people that put 1 star not everyone is perfect in ur eyes so for those to put 1 star u should probably rethink what ur saying about other people bc those people that work there are my family will always be my family and fyi we did get hacked and we didn't get all of are products for that reason because some stuff would come in rotten we have call in for credit or throw away so there for not everyone perfect ok but again I love location my store and the people I was surrounded by and yes I had day that were bad at work but doesn't make me perfect and yes I did get called name like donkey and monkey but the people that called me that are still my family joke or not i love the store and I love my work and I want thank u for coming to are store shopping and getting things u need and sorry for are closure but we all moved on and found different jobs read more

Went in and got everything except water went up front to ask cashier, he looks at me like I'm not talking to you! So he looks at the customer and says "where'd you get the water, and he tells me". Go back to check out, and the cashier was a complete BUTT. Plus no name tag, I thought ok maybe they don't wear name tags, but the guy behind him Eric had a name tag on. I interacted with someone in the Deli Department who greeted me with "Yes". No, "Hello", "How may I help you", just "Yes?". The cashier didn't speak at all. I like shopping here because it is very clean and the chicken salad from the Deli is delicious. Wish the staff was a little more courteous. read more

Had a sale on dungeness crab legs and could tell the guy who works at the seafood counter is very lazy. I originally picked up (2) packages that was already weighed and wrapped but noticed some black parts on the crabs and asked if they had some new fresh in the back. He tried to argue with me saying he just put them out this morning and that's how they supposed to look. I'm like no that's black rotten I'm not laying for rotten seafood you need to go get me some fresh from the back! Like I was going to fall for that okie doke! I'm an David seafood eater and know how it supposed to look! So he took his lazy self back there and gave me what I wanted. This was my first time here and besides a sale on seafood I probably won't ever be back. Prices are kind of high and the seafood/deli counter is very limited. The donuts were huge but didn't partake in them. Maybe in the morning next time. I did find a brand of sparkling wine I never seen before so I might venture back there for that... read more

I came here today to get my weekly shopping done and I really just needed some basic food items to carry me through the week. I've been to this store a dozen times, and they usually have what Zim looking for. So far I've picked-up a gallon of whole milk, some pumpernickel bread, smoked turkey lunch meat, and Tide laundry detergent. There's some other stuff that I want to get that I know about, and probably a couple of other things that I don't know that I want. I didn't bother to make an actual kist. Arizona ice tea zero is a must have, but it appeared that they only have the green tea flavor and sweet tea. Since they have a prootion going on for 4 for $3.00 I settled on the green tea. I also got three frozen spaghetti diners, and a thing of peanut butter. I pull have it going but I decided that zi was good for now. This store is clean, and there are plenty of employees available from what I've seen. read more

I appreciate the convivence of this store's location but each and every time I come home and unpack my groceries, I find that a good number of the items I purchase are expired. I usually check the dates as I purchase but when I'm in a hurry I tend to forget. Yesterday I purchased rice and butter, and they were both expired. This is becoming the norm, and I am definitely considering going elsewhere. So folks please take a few extra minutes to look at the dates on your foods before purchasing in this grocery. read more

The cashier shut the lane down right when I walked up. Ok, I'll just go to another lane - not a single other lane was open. There were a few employees lingering about ignoring me so I said to someone, anyone, "how do I check out?" One of the employees just pointed at the self check out lane and nobody said a damn thing to me. I'm well dressed, articulate and polite by the way. So... the store has nice wide aisles, plenty to choose from, and is kept clean and I WILL NEVER EVER STEP FOOT IN IT AGAIN! read more

Yesterday was my first and, regrettably, my final visit to Shoppers. Also, this is my first time writing a grocery store review. I was enthralled by the store, particularly their International section. And, because it was my first time there, I wandered about aimlessly looking for my goods. I believe this made the employees or management apprehensive or suspicious of me. So I asked for help, but I got the old shoulder or a side look, because apparently you can't chat in the store. Then I noticed a stubby white man in a light blue shirt on the phone (clearly the manager) following me, as well as one elderly gentlemen and one young man in red, pretending to arrange stuff around and also following me. It struck me as odd that, rather of assisting me since I was plainly perplexed, they made me feel uncomfortable and nervous. I'm not trying to make this a race issue, but it was clear why they were just following me. I'm a short, bald, black woman looking around as though I'm in Walt Disney World. When I noticed the "manager" following me to the pharmacy section, I felt terrified and went to the self-check so I can leave. The Hispanic lady at the self-service checkout was extremely friendly, however I noticed she constantly staring at the manager in blue. I've worked in a grocery store before, and I understand the need to protect your business, but making your customers feel uncomfortable and targeted is not the way to do it. Please check your bias and utilize your store cameras, and if you don't have any, I recommend you get some so you don't antagonize innocent citizens. It will benefit your company if your staff and management create a friendly environment for all visitors. read more

Normally I like this his Shoppers store. This rating is based solely on my most recent visit. On This last Sunday I entered the store at about 9:30 pm. It's always clean and organized with a very large selection of produce and products. This day was no different, so I gathered everything from my list and unfortunately and as usual, several things that were not on the list . So by the time I was ready to check out... I had about 20-25 items in my cart. I headed to the checkout (around 10 pm) to see that not a single one of the normal check out lanes were open. The store still had plenty of customers. I asked the employee attending the self checkouts if they were going to be opening a register and he said that they would not because the only employees at the time were himself and the young lady at the customer service desk. The store wouldn't be closing until 11:00. I had to scan about 25 items on my own in the self check out line which took entirely too long. Their check out software is antiquated as it is so sensitive to what items It believes you have or have not bagged .. and what items should or shouldn't be in the "bagging area". Also when you are ringing up produce if it has no sticker (like the collard greens I bought) than it is not user friendly when it comes to determining the correct number code for that item. Other stores have a Rolodex type of tool to assist you but not Shoppers, at least not at that register. I had to ask for help with that. After scanning about 15 items I was tired of it and ended up just not purchasing nearly 10 items because I already have a job and I was already paying for all my groceries so it didn't seem right to have to do this much work just to buy my groceries. I just stopped scanning new items and decided I would just make another trip somewhere else to make up for the missing items. read more

Another great Shoppers! After the closing of the two Shoppers closest to me, this is the next closest location. Overall it's a good Shoppers. The isles are wide and organized. They have a fair selection of different items. The donuts are amazing (as expected) and still very cheap. The employees are nice and get the job done in a quick manner. My only issue is that they seem a little understaffed. Would I hold this against them? No. There are competitors out there (*Cough Giant Cough*) that are way worse than Shoppers. I would recommend this place to others and I will definitely be back for Donuts. read more

I only come to shoppers if I need a few things, since I shop regularly at wegmans and costco, but I do like this location and think it's a-ok. The salad bar is best when it's first put out; the donuts are still on point even if they aren't as colossal as they used to be; they have a nice selection of products from cereals and drinks, sometimes flavors you typically only see in wal-mart and not other grocers; self-checkouts available; always clean imo; I'm not a fan of the meat selections, probably b/c I'm a wegmans stan. All in all, not a bad place. Not sure when this location will close, but I'm guessing Giant will scoop it up as they have most other Shoppers locations. I'd much rather have Shoppers =/. read more

What is happening to the Shoppers Food Warehouse in Dumfries, Va.? I have always loved this store that has a 'heart'! They employ a few mentally handicapped people, who are very polite and seem dedicated to their work. Shoppers is famous for its Colossal Doughnuts, which are delicious. NOW THEY HAVE MANY EMPLOYEES RETIRING AND /ORJUST LEAVING. There are new people in the bakery, and the same delicious donuts are now much fewer in number, and the 'old favorites' (at least mine) are not there! I've never been to a Shoppers before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I will say I'm not a fan! The store was dirty and employees weren't the most helpful or friendly. I ordered a birthday cake from the bakery and I just wanted to have some simple "Happy Birthday" wording added, but the woman who worked there was acting like I was asking her to fly to the moon or something. She did it, but not without making a fuss first. The prices were low, which was great.. but not great enough to bring me back next time I'm in town. read more

During the snowstorm on January 3-4 we were stuck in the parking lot for a couple of hours trying to figure out how to get around I-95. I noticed the lights on in the store at 6:40 am and tried to go inside to use the bathroom and buy water. The manager explained the store was shut but that he was letting people use the restroom. While in there, I saw the manager let a woman take some food (without charge) because she also got trapped in the I-95 mess and her kids were without food. This manager went above and beyond and if I lived in the area I would shop there exclusively as a thank you. read more

Customer Service at its very WORST! I live in the neighborhood and this store is the only one that is closest and convenient to me. I usually stop two or three times a week and in the past two or three months, I feel like saying something to somebody about the service but there just isn't anyone there that I feel would care. Usually I come in after 10:30 pm so I don't expect the night shift staff to be too happy to see customers walk in to do their last minute shopping. Lately, I opt to use the self-checkout just because I feel the two front employees are just too busy talking about whatever they talk about. Because I either buy some type of alcoholic beverage or some other type of Age-restricted item, someone must "OK" me before I can proceed to checkout. I am the only one customer and even though the light flashes, nobody bothers to come help! When I called the cashier's attention, she didn't bother to look at me or even say anything! She continued talking to one of her friends and finally when she decided her conversation was done, she walked to the station and okay me. I have witnessed the same kind of service more than 4 times and finally I feel I've had enough. I know I must change my route from work to home so I can go spend my money someplace else and I urge you to avoid this place if you can! I feel I haven't expressed my disappoint with my neighborhood Shoppers and that's just because I am not a good writer. read more

This is the grocery store we head to when we can't find what we need at Lidl (although that like never happens). They have a great selection of products and produce and we've never had a bad experience here. Knocked off a star only for cleanliness, because it's really lacking there. read more

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the store has all but given up. The employees don't care and have personal conversations with each other while you're trying to check out. The shelves are more empty than stocked and some aisles are completely empty. The freezer cases have always leaked (at least for the past 5 years or so) in numerous places. The only remedy they've tried is sticking a yellow folding hazard sign when the water is all over the floor. They make no attempt at all to clean carts or baskets. read more

I've only been in once but it was a VERY nice looking store. I'll sure have to go back and see what all they have. So many things that Giant Food no longer stocks, perhaps Shoppers will have those missing items. Close to Panera Bread also which I like. I bought two pies in the store, a pecan and a PEACH. This is a great Shopper's, but one of the biggest reasons is the location. I love the shopping center because it is not too crowded, but has great places- Target, Five Guys, Panera. But, something happened yesterday that made me like this place even more. I stopped in and needed to pick up a birthday cake for my wife. Our daughters wanted to get her a chocolate cake with white icing and red roses. There was nothing like that out so I asked if they would be making any more soon. Without hesitation, the lady in the bakery said she would get me exactly what I needed. I walked around for about 10 minutes and came back. She already had it boxed up and ready to go. It's the most convenient grocery store near me but some (not all) of the employees can be rude and unhelpful. On my most recent visit, a checkout employee was training another employee. I received no greeting when they began to check me out. The trainer was eating cookies at the register under her mask while overseeing the trainee. Then when I tried to make small talk, they began whispering under their breath and snickering. I just came for the groceries, not to make friends, but who the heck is managing this place? How hard is it to be polite? And if that's the example for new employees, I don't see much hope for improvement. read more

I normally do not shop at Shoppers in Dumfries, VA, I previously went there and purchased so Carolina Pride lunch meat and realized the dates were outdated so I let them know and the front store worker said she will let them know they need to check the dates. Last Wednesday I was in the area and wanted some crab cakes for Mother's Days so I purchased crab meat that said to be sold by May 6th and today is May 8th. I was cooking my Mother's Day dinner and the crab meat didn't smell like crabs, so I said I'll mix it anyway, and the smell had my house smelling unpleasantly with a bad odor, as well as my hands, OMG. The crab meat had to have been spoiled before May 6th. I sprayed my house with Bath & Body Works Spray and the odor is still lingering. I do not recommend anyone to buy fresh seafood from this store. If you continue to shop there, make sure you check the dates and don't buy anything dated within several days. Good Luck!!! read more

I like this grocery store a lot. Convenient, great variety. Great produce, great bakery, and a decent selection of everything else. While they do have organic lettuce & fresh spinach, the Organic/gluten-free canned and boxed goods section is pretty small, but does have some of the stuff I'm looking for (mostly dry goods, not a lot of gluten free frozen food). And they make up for that by having a large ethnic foods section - they have foods imported from a lot of different counties, including Greece & Israel. Usually though I come here for the produce & bakery & sometimes the large and pasta aisle - pretty big variety there. I know others have complained about the customer service but the employees I've interacted with have always been nice to me, and I've gotten out of there expediently. read more

Well I like this location but I'm giving it 1 star... the old white guy who runs produce department told my son to shut his mouth just beca he was singing I didn't hear it personally but my child said that he told him that and another customer cane up to me and told me what he had said that in my opinion is disgusting you don't tell anyones 6 year old child to shut up if that child isn't even yours very rude and my child had a banana in his hand which I sent him to get a single banana which the old man snatched from him very rude I didn't ask for manager because I didn't want to cause a scene. Very unprofessional of him to do that will not be going to this location anymore very disgusted... what if a child with Special needs was singing wouldn't that totally ruin it for them? This is the absolute worst grocery store in the area. Not only do their "self-checkout" lanes not work properly but when you ask for assistance the employees look at you like you're crazy. I have heard rumors that this store is closing. If that's the case, I completely understand why. read more

Produce section is absolutely never adequately stocked. They were out of broccoli and cauliflower for 3 days last week, and this is not the first time. They are ALWAYS out of spaghetti squash; over the last 4 weeks, they've stocked it once with somewhere around 10 squashes. The produce goes bad very quickly. The lettuce wilts within a day or two. I used to shop only at Shoppers, but with their lack of items I'm no longer able to. The quality has also gone downhill. Customer service is meh. Wish I could say better things. read more

Average grocery store that has the basics of what you need, no complaints from me. I do my weekly grocery shopping here and get what I need. I do like the 10% military Mondays which gives discount to already pretty good prices as compared to a Wegmans. If I need some good seafood or meat products for a special meal, I will travel a few miles to the Woodbridge Wegmans though (and pay a higher price). Location is great for those in Dumfries/Montclair and right next door to the Target, 5 Guys, Starbucks and Panera Bread. read more

Called at 8a.m. to order a cake for pick up by 4p.m. Asked for Strawberry Short Cake. however, it had the entire top covered. I needed to write Happy Birthday in the center. Therefore, I asked for a yellow cake (which is already baked in the display), with fresh strawberries as a border, simple....right. The lady told me it would take 24 hours to place the order. What?? Are you serious????? She was serious......I just told her thank you and have a good day. I called Wegman's, Giant, and Walmart with the same request.....neither had an issue with the request. After I had no problems with the previous stated companies; I called the management at Shopper's. He stated that that should not have been an issue.......oops! He spoke with someone in the Bakery department and I was later transferred.. This lady was very apologic, stating that the lady I spoke with earlier was stressing.....what????? that has nothing to do with how you represent the company you work for ..(thinking this). She then asked if I would like to order...............What...again??? No thank you, I have already ordered the cake and it will be ready before 4p.m. Watch out for Stress days...............your service may not be nice....just saying...... read more
