Incredible place. Incredible people. Anyone who says otherwise is full of it. We get our bagels from there several times a month. The gluten free bagels are better than any around. No one can tell the difference. They make deli sandwiches on them for me and they are perfect!! I'm on Yelp today to boast about their catering. Three times in the past year we've had home parties with 25-35 people. Their 3-4foot heros are on spec every time. They deliver exactly what we order and I ask for tons of specific alterations. It's insane how they are so perfect every time. We were in the catering business for many years and it is not an easy task!! Their hot foods are affordable which makes me think they wouldn't be the best -- they are. The sausage and peppers isn't greasy gross. They use awesome sausage that my big italian family raved about. I've been coming here for so many years. This place used to be great - very friendly service and great food. The last few times I noticed the service was a little inconsiderate. Also the food is not as good. Went today for a simple BEC on a toasted english muffin. The workers were talking amongst each other and to the other customers waiting for their orders. Finally gave my order and waited longer than two nice looking women who came and left. Asked about my order and received a rude reply. Got home and the english muffin wasn't even toasted. Stopped in for a egg sandwich this morning and while ordering they asked if I wanted to add a drink for $1.50. I said sure and ordered a orange juice. I paid my $7.50 for the egg sandwich and oj. Much to my surprise upon opening the bag (See the photo ) i received a salad dressing cup of orange juice. Seriously, never in my life would i have expected to receive a salad dressing cup! Not just because of the size, but seriously you couldn't spare a cup...and no they were not out because there were many coffee and teas ordered as well. This is the most overrated Bagel, Deli and Bakery within a 10 mile radius. First is the amount of people who frequent this place, most talking or not paying attention to when it's their turn, and quite honestly the volume of the people talking in this place is deafening on a Sunday A.M. While they do have table seating, unless the people who sit at the tables take the time to clean up after themselves, most are dirty on top and around on the floor. They could have a worker go out and clean off the tables and take a broom and dust pan and clean up the floor. The garbage is also overflowing I noticed the 4 times I did go there. The bagels are just average, the deli part, I have no clue what they mean by that. It is so overwhelming when you go there that you need to just know what bagels you want and get out. Parking is plentiful, but due to the amount of people for just that place alone I have personally witnessed 2 accidents in just my 4 visits. I will not be going back any longer. I gave it 4 tries. On try #3 the chocolate milk I purchased for my grandson who knows he isn't allowed to have it until we get home and I went to open it & felt chunks in it & before my nose got to the bottle the smell was making me gag. The date was still ok with it still having 2 more days before it should be removed from the shelf. We were the lucky buyers of that little breakfast ruining experience. I called up TPK BD&B, had to hold on for over 5 minutes because they were busy. I was told by a young man who sounded like he wasn't old enough to be working and wasn't too happy to be up on a Sunday before noon and said just bring it back whenever you want and hung up. Didn't take my name or anything. My 6 yr old grandson wasn't going to be coming back until the following Sunday and I wasn't going to waste more time going back there that day so I waited until the following Saturday afternoon figuring it was a better time, less busy which it was and also not having to bring my grandson in tow the next day. I made the mistake of ordering my bagels first, not looking at the case as I went by to get the replacement Ch. Milk, but all of them in the case were days over the due date. So I had to go explain who I was and that I spoke to this young man who I then found out was no longer an employee there, no big surprise and this young girl who was SO ANNOYED BY MY ISSUE that she kept giving me this face that I wanted to just smack. She asked for my receipt which I didn't have because I was never given one and she said well you should have asked for one. Hmm, how stupid of me not to have asked for one. Several of the employees were now involved in this and surprise surprise all agreed that I could have gotten that choc. milk anywhere and just because I was coming here decided to tell this story. I said then how did I know the name of the guy I spoke to on the phone and this girl actually said to me you probably know him from outside the store and already knew he was no longer working here. This stupid ch milk cost me about $2.25. Would I be going through all of that for a stupid ch. milk plus that the date matched up to the dates in the expired ch. milks they had in the case still? I was so aggravated and then she acted like she was doing me a favor of taking the amount off of the bagels I was buying which now I didn't even want but paid the difference for anyway. Just to annoy the gang leader loud mouth girl I asked for a receipt with the notation of what the $2.25 credit was for. At the end I asked her to sign it but all she did was put a scribble mark after giving me the nastiest look any teenager has ever given someone old enough to be her Nona and walked away with the pen and left the receipt sitting on the counter with the bag. My biggest surprise though was when I got home and found that I was short 2 bagels from my dozen, but I also didn't have some of the kind of bagels I asked for and it contained ones I didn't want. Was this someone else's bag although it was the only one on the counter and there was only an elderly gentleman eating his bagel at a table, with coffee and reading a paper. I also, in hindsight, remember seeing the bagel case as I walked out and thought wow they sold a lot of bagels today, because by now it was after 3 in the afternoon and there was not too many bagels there and most bins were empty. Then it dawned on me they probably make or get the bagels delivered in the early AM and they are sitting out all day or even over night. Either way these had to be toasted to make them edible, which my grandson doesn't really care for but he had no choice and also had no ch. milk. This place was given 4 shots and it failed miserably for me each time. I will never go back and suggest you don't either or buyer beware. read more

Sure bagel shops (or delis/groceries proclaiming they sell fresh bagels) are a dime-a-dozen around these parts, but the majority of them don't live up to the hype of a good New York bagel. Turnpike Bagels isn't the best bagel shop I've ever been to (you can see that in a previous review on my page at another place), but it's definitely in the A tier. So what exactly defines a great bagel place? Quality of the bagel is most important (the bagels are best when made on the premises, served fresh out of the oven, and offer a selection ranging from slightly undercooked to slightly overcooked, since some like bagels on the lighter side and some prefer the dark side, aka slightly charred). Essentially, if you need to toast the bagel (key word is "need" as some prefer toasted), it's probably not best. Turnpike Bagels meets all the check marks listed above (made on premises, served fresh out of the oven, ranging from light to dark). Another defining feature of a good bagel place is the selection. You want more than just plain or sesame. Turnpike Bagels offers more than 10 flavors of bagel. The selection of spreads is also varied, and you can order the standard bacon/egg/cheese with salt/pepper/ketchup, which is another great option for a place like this. Plus, there's a good selection of your standard coffees and other beverages, plus deli options. Meanwhile, prices are fair and service is pleasant. It's easy to get mesmerized by all the options. There's Raisin& Walnut Creamcheese, scallion and Lox. These bagels are fresher than a new shape up. Pillow soft and the sandwiched are stacked thick.
