I love living here! Amazing amenities, maintenance is very quick, management is timely, love this place!

My name is Noah, and I applied to Shorewood a few weeks ago after learning that my mom was selling the house I'm currently living in. I had heard good things about the community, toured a few units, and ultimately applied for a classic unit that I wasn't able to tour but was assured would be available for move-in by July 30. After completing the entire application process, submitting all required documentation, paying my holding deposit, and receiving my approval, I was genuinely excited to have secured a place to live during a stressful transition. Then, just yesterday, I received a call informing me that the unit I had been approved for was suddenly no longer available because of an "emergency." I was told that the current resident had rescinded their notice to vacate. While I understand that unexpected situations can happen, what was most disappointing was how the situation was handled afterward. With very little notice, the only option presented to me was to rent a different unit that cost several hundred dollars more per month. After taking a day to think it over, I proposed what I felt was a reasonable compromise: given the last-minute change, the difficult position I was now in because my housing plans had fallen through, and the fact that this situation was entirely outside of my control, I asked if they would honor a rate closer to the unit I had originally been approved for. My request was immediately denied. Throughout this entire process, I remained patient, respectful, and understanding. Unfortunately, I did not feel that same respect was shown in return. At no point did I feel there was any genuine effort to find a fair solution or even acknowledge the stress and hardship this unexpected change created. Instead, I was left feeling like I simply had to accept paying significantly more or start my apartment search all over again with very little time before I need to move. I understand that emergencies happen and that not every situation can be controlled. What can be controlled is how people are treated when those situations arise. I expected better communication, more empathy, and at least some willingness to work toward a reasonable resolution. Instead, I walked away feeling like my time, trust, and circumstances meant very little. I sincerely hope others have a better experience than I did. read more

TLDR (but I suggest you read it): I don't recommend moving here. The only good thing about living here were the maintenance workers (they were super timely and kind). One of our major issues with Shorewood was their utter lack of communication. There were many times that vendors and/or the property management team would show up without proper notice. There were also times when we would receive proper notice, and then they either wouldn't show up or would show up after the date they gave us. For example, the first year we lived there, they did fire alarm testing without any warning/communication at all. Also during the first year we lived there, a flood occurred in our building and we had active construction in our unit/building for 6+ months, but they still raised our rent even when we brought it up with the property management team. Tangentially, during this time, the fire alarm system constantly went off, and it became so reoccurring that some people just stopped evacuating the building and waited in the ear splitting ringing for the fire fighters to reset the system. Going off of the above, some of the contracted vendors that they use are super unprofessional. Some examples of things that we experienced include vendors peeing in our bathroom when we actively have no water (we didn't necessarily care that they used our bathroom, you gotta go when you gotta go, it was the fact that they were there to fix things so that Shorewood could turn the water back on [i.e., they knew our water was off] and the fact there was pee on the toilet seat), leaving their trash in our apartment, and stabilizing the ladders that they're actively climbing on the glass of our window panes. There were also times that we didn't receive updates about when vendors would be working which lead to water being sprayed into our apartment as well as confusion over why there were random men climbing on our balcony. Lastly, I don't know if it was the grounds staff, maintenance, or the office staff, but they started to park their golf carts in front of building entrances more often and would only leave enough space for the door to open, not for people to leave quickly. So in order to actually exit the building, you'd have to open the door, move to let it close, wait for the door to close, and then you could leave by walking around the golf cart. When asked why they parked there, they said, "it's an emergency," but there were open parking spaces that wouldn't been a safety hazard right behind where they parked. read more

Community is nice. However, a bit of background I'm the caretaker of an individual that has recently fallen ill prompting us to have to move closer to the city and put that individual into an assisted living space. Being the caregiver and working a time consuming job in Seattle and the sole source of income for the family I went against my judgment and signed a lease sight unseen. I figured greystar is reputable it will be fine photos should be accurate. Huge mistake. The day came to get the keys I gave them the down payment and went to look at the unit. Absolute garbage. It smelled horribly of curry and in wood floors, failing laminate countertops and press board cabinets, that smell won't come out. I immediately went to ask for a different unit,l which theoretically would have been more expensive so I would assume better for them? I would have happily paid more. It was hilarious how quickly Shane changed gears. Within 15 minutes I had given a deposit and essentially got told to go F myself. I'd recommend a different property. I'm in the process of buying out of this lease. I don't even think I'll move in. Trusting a company is something you don't do in this day and age. I knew better. Nevertheless, run away or at least be very careful, it's easy to throw a few thousand dollars in the trash. Oops. All photos were pre-move in inspection. The management at Shorewood has been unprofessional, rude, and unresponsive throughout the move-out process. I've made repeated efforts to get clear answers about lease and notice requirements, only to be ignored, misinformed, or dismissed. Despite disclosing a physical disability, I was told to come in person again without being allowed to ask questions, and the call was abruptly ended when I mentioned I was recording for documentation. Even after clearly stating I'm moving out, no one has explained the required forms or next steps. Communication has been inconsistent--sometimes saying a form is required, other times saying email is sufficient. If a form isn't required, why wasn't my in-person notice accepted? If it is, why wasn't I informed at the time? The team seems unfamiliar with their own policies and unwilling to assist residents who are not renewing. Greystar needs to seriously address the lack of communication, accessibility, and accountability at this property. ZERO STARS!!! read more

I've lived here for about a month and I've already had issues in the apartment with ants, the apartment smelled like pee before move in, and there were (and still are) cracks in the tub. We've attempted to contact the team several times to figure out the ant problem, as they've gotten into our food and our pets food, with no response so far. My partner and I are extremely displeased living here and do not advise anyone to waste their time even applying. read more

Don't even waste your time on applying, just find somewhere else. I filled out an application and they were going to offer me a Renovated unit and last minute told me they didn't have one available and I was not interested. I paid the application fees and did everything to the book. a few months later I get a call claiming I owe over $350. I was told to call the leasing office to discuss and after many attempts no one ever called me back. I just got an email from a collection agency claiming I still owe them money. This is terrifying and completely unfair. I have never experienced anything like this before. Don't waste your time or put yourself at risk. read more

We really enjoyed the nearly three years we were there. The property was beautiful and conveniently located. The onsite team was generally wonderful. Greystar, their corporate overlords, are awful. Due to a misunderstanding when we left in July 2022, we were charged an entire month's rent in December 2023 for about $100 we had missed. Their unresponsive accounts receivable department took two emails for every request. I do have to say, they were benevolent enough to reduce it to $750, so Merry Christmas to us. Financially speaking, this property is not worth the BS you may have to put up with later from corporate. read more

It's the middle of winter and we just had several days of snow. Typically I'm pretty frugal when it comes to turning on the heat but given the circumstances and chilly temperature outside, I decided to turn my heaters on. Turns out, they actually don't work. None of them. Apparently a boiler broke down, and the maintenance folk didn't get a city permit to install a second one. That was a few months ago - and the issue still hasn't been resolved. Now it's February and we're anticipating several more days of snow. My apartment is frigid. I'm literally wearing layers and layers of clothing and blankets to keep warm. None of this seems to concern our landlord. The worst part is we had to find this out ourselves after trying to turn on the heaters; we were never even informed there was an issue. I lived at Shorewood for a year. It was one of the worst apartment living experiences I've ever had. Shorewood will lure you in with a cute and updated model home, pretty pictures and manicured landscaping. Don't be fooled. It's owned by Greystar, a nationwide property management company that is more focused on ripping people off than being an honest company. What they don't bother telling you when you move in at Shorewood is that none of their apartments are metered; everyone's usage for water, sewer, garbage, gas and common electricity is tossed into one bucket and then divided amongst all residents. My unit was over the boiler room; I hadn't turned on my radiators since January and yet I was still paying $50+/mo for what everyone else was using well into summer. You are required to pay $25/mo for "valet trash service," that was occasionally picked up, but you were still charged the full amount, regardless. And you cannot get out of this lease requirement, if you use it, you pay, if you don't use it, you still pay. One month I was charged the full $25 and my trash was picked up one time. I got it waved and the email I received after I complained said "we'll wave it this once." As if I was the problem. I moved out 10/12/23 and my lease was up 11/6/23. When I moved out, my apartment was left in immaculate condition. I was specifically told not to fill any nail holes, as that would create more problems for maintenance to fix. I found out I was charged $85 for "partial paint," and when I called for an explanation (I left 4 messages and I sent an email) I did not get any response. There is no way the nail holes cost $85 to repair with paint. And, rather than call me back to explain the charge, they simply took it out of the $750 deposit I'd made when I moved in. I'm still waiting for my deposit to be refunded, I was told it could take 3-4 weeks. They were quick to take my money, but not to pay it back. They also charged me $150 for utilities dated 10/1-11/6. I moved out 10/12, so the majority of what I was charged wasn't even my use since I was no longer living there. This included $40 for water, $24 for trash, $34 for sewer, $24 for gas, $6 for electricity (never mind I also paid Puget Sound Energy separately) and two "move out fees" that totaled $20. Because all charges are thrown into one pot, I was charged an amount that wasn't at all reflective of the fact I wasn't even there to use these utilities. If anyone moved out and left their garbage - and they couldn't be located, the total amount is divided and charged to all residents and WE paid for other people's trash. I am unsure where my $2000+ rent was going, as it seemed to be a fee just to live there. The walls are thin, you can hear everything on the sides, above, below you. It's apparently a lease violation to smoke weed inside an apartment, yet our lobby area always stunk of pot. When I complained, I was told it would be dealt with. It never was. Oh, and parking was a joke, you could never find a spot after work. They employ a landscape service that uses carcinogenic pesticides in the spring, but they don't mark where they are spraying. If you confronted any of the workers, they become belligerent and threatened to call the cops. The rental office responded to my emailed complaint and told me that they would look into it, but that once it rained, it was safe for pets to walk on the grass. Really? There were so many people that lived there with children and animals and yet Shorewood/Greystar choose to use cancer causing chemicals rather than picking weeds. If I can save one person from making the mistake of signing a lease here, taking the time to write this review will have been worth it. Don't do it. Just don't. read more

Extremely poor upkeep. The common spaces are rarely cleaned. The gym is full of spiderwebs and dirt balls. The seats outside the gym are always dirty. See the attached pictures. The water dispenser needs filter replacement and has been like that for over 4 months. Talk to the management and they always have an excuse ready. I'm a current resident here. I want to leave this so that future residents have their expectations measured a bit here. While the area of Mercer Island is nice and surely there are other apartments that are better on the island you can stay at I enjoy the non jail like feeling you get from other apartments that are crammed in one building. Here is why I gave two stars though. Leasing: During the leasing process due to covid I was under the impression I was getting an apartment different than what I got when I signed the lease. The pictures I saw prior to signing my lease showed a balcony and different floor plan sadly I was unable to see my apartment before I moved in which was odd to me. Quality of the apartments: Quality of the apartments for their area and price are quite lacking and here is why. The walls are not insulated, it's hard to keep it cool in the summer and hot in the winter. Because of poor insulation you will hear your neighbors conversations ver clearly and you'll hear them enter and leave their apartments clearly. Let's just say I have neighbors who I could hear into their bedroom very..very clearly and I heard things no neighbor should hear and still be able to look that person in the eye the next day. Water pressure is quite low, it's low enough that I called maintainable who said they fixed it but still not fixed and they closed my ticket actively trying to avoid the issue because I think they simply may not know how to fix the problem. Paint quality: they people they hired to paint the apartment have actually painted some doors and locks shut to the point I've had to rip the door loose with force and they've left some paint on the windows. Appliances: while the fridge, stove and dish washer are new the washer and dryer are old and really really small and aren't energy efficient. Danger for children: so there is still asbestos in the building. There are attic slots in the ceilings of hallways that the Maintenance Man said don't open it or you'll get sick from the asbestos. The apartment company doesn't let you know about the asbestos or the lead paint until after you sign your lease which to me is a bit backwards. Parking: if you live at this address your insurance will go up about 65 dollars simply because of how bad parking is here. Progressive let me know the insurance rates are higher at this address due to the amount of complaints they get from people who have had their cars dinged. Oddly my insurance in downtown Seattle was much cheaper. Parking is really bad here and I would say get the garage for the extra 150 a month if you can. Landscaping: sadly all they do is mow the grass and trim hedges. There are areas where there is dead grass from dogs peeing on it but they don't treat that which is quite an eye sore. Internet: The only 1gig Internet is Comcast and that's only 1gb down unless you pay for the 300 dollar a month 1gig pro package. So you're extremely limited on internet choices here. Guess the property didn't get the memo that WaveG is the best internet you can get. Oh well. Staffing Issues: often times when making a request for help it seems like no one is actually manning the station for lack of a better way of putting it, you'll often be forwarded to the answering service which has no ability to do anything as GreyStar blinging defers all responsibility to the property managers and won't get involved. God forbid you have an emergency too as the emergency maintenance line is also unanswered from what other residents have confirmed. Rent payment processing: If you're paying rent make sure you give it a week to process. They use a third party processing company which ACH transfer take 7 days otherwise if you use your debit card it costs a transaction fee which varies if you use debit or credit cards. A Wild Karen has appeared: Yes this place has a lot..I mean a lot of Karens, so it it's best to kind your Ps and Qs here otherwise they'll write letters and etc instead of minding their own business and letting you live peacefully in your apartment. read more

Anya is correct about the parking situation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twT_XtEtlcU sums it up, perfectly. My car has been dinged and bashed so many times. Parking is free, but I would rather pay the extra to ensure: 1) availability and 2) safety. We have lived here for 2 years and it has been nonstop construction and renovations for exterior fixes. The gym's water filters and TVs have never worked in our time here, and there are always promises about renovations contributing to XYZ but it never seems to be complete. Greystar works with third party contractors for trash valet services (which you have to pay for) and they are consistently unprofessional. I have seen them haphazardly toss trash on parked cars, leave torn garbage bags filled with cat litter in stairwells, continue smoking their cigarettes when entering the building, etc. Look, some of this is not entirely Greystar's fault. Let's be honest, most of us would rather be able to purchase a home and not have to live in an apartment complex. There will always be issues. For the location and access to the MTS greenway, this complex is great. We do not have children, but there are many families who sacrifice living here to ensure their kids can go to the MI public schools. Just know that this community is not a quiet one. Kids are often screaming and playing, which again, is fine, but be aware that for peace and tranquility, you should probably look elsewhere. My main issue and the impetus for my posting a pubic review is that there are staff members who work for Greystar that post "glowing reviews" of staff and management across Yelp and Google. They will inevitably deny this or make some excuse about how those staff members do not work at this specific apartment complex but are actual residents (who get significant discounts and have every incentive to mischaracterize their experience). Do your research, weigh out the pros and cons of a "cheaper" rent rate, and make peace with wherever you live. It will save your sanity. Until then, save up for a mortgage or until you can afford a better living experience with less people. read more

We have had insufficiently hot water for almost a year. See my other Yelp reviews, including my past positive review of Shorewood under its previous management and Yelp business profile. I loathe leaving 1-star reviews and only do so if a situation remains unaddressed and unmitigated. I tried to go through management repeatedly first, over the course of months. At one point management claimed that they had it set to 120F by law. Fine. But 120-degree water needs to be available **at its final destination out of the faucet** on a constant basis. If that means the boiler/water heater/whichever appliance in the basement needs to be adjusted higher to make up for cooling en route, then that's what needs to happen. This is not an individual faucet problem (all faucets in my unit are affected), nor even a single-building problem, as it's been noted across other buildings in online forums. At the time of this review, water is getting to 108 degrees at its hottest, and generally cools down to 106 within 30 seconds of that initial peak. Lack of sufficiently hot water is unacceptable, particularly at the rent we pay. In the winter, it's bordering on sadistic. It's uncomfortable and miserable physically, and it doesn't get dishes clean. At its hottest, hot water needs to be too hot to touch. That is never the case with Shorewood water. To be clear, this isn't **running out of** hot water, this is water never being hot enough to begin with. I have lived here for several years, and, up until about 10 months ago, this was never a problem. That tells me this current issue is able to be fixed -- all with a simple adjustment of temperature. The canned response to this review will be just that: "thank you for your feedback and contact us to make it better." A hollow PR gesture with no actual solution. I am more than happy to remove this review once the problem is addressed and we have sufficiently hot water permanently. read more

I lived here for close to 6 years and I broke my lease early just to GTFO. This place has turned into such a hot mess since Greystar took over and the customer service is just heinous! I honestly have no idea where to start with this review because I really want people to have full transparency into how rude and unprofessional the staff is. There are some good aspects about this place. Granted I lived here forever and never had a bad experience until Greystar took over. The good: 1- location! Growing up on the Eastside it was important for me to stay on this side of the water. Mercer Island is an awesome place to live because it safe, quiet and peaceful! It's easy to get into Seattle or Bellevue and you're just so incredibly central to everything. You're a 10 minute walk down the hill to Luther Burbank and about 15 minute walk into downtown MI. The bad: 1- the buildings are pretty old. But it gives a rustic look at the same time. However, the walls are so incredibly thin that you hear EVERYTHING! I complained multiple times to the office about my upstairs neighbor who would get into arguments with his lady friend every Friday night like clockwork. They would scream, yell, throw things and it would be so disruptive. The first few times I called they told me to call the police and complain. Of course I called the police and they told me it wasn't their responsibility to deal with this. Needless to say it was a dead end because the leasing office never did anything about it. Oddly enough I was the one that got scolded in the end for making noise when I was banging on my ceiling to silence my noisy neighbors... 2- maintenance sucks! I probably only had to call them a handful of times in 6 years and the last few times I received the worst treatment. First issue, my refrigerator had very obviously started leaking because I had a massive stain on the carpet in the dining room area which shared the wall with the fridge. Filled out a form online, the guy came and took everything out of my fridge and claimed the issue was because I had " something" like juice leaking... basically the blame was put on me. Cleaned everything out and sure enough a week later the leak started again. Second issue, my shower wall had started peeling (fake tile on the wall) and there was a huge hole that water would get into when I would shower. I raised not one but 4 service requests for this. The first two times they would tell me there was no issue. The third time I left a very clear note with an arrow pointing to the hole! They painted over the damn hole! Fourth time I had to physically show the man the hole and how paint will not help. He took his sweet time to come back and finally added some sort of glue to hold it. Third issue, the fire detectors go off randomly. I had been traveling and came home (severely jet lagged) to the non stop beeping of the alarm. I assumed it was the battery even though I had JUST changed it before leaving. The noise would not stop, I called them to complain and they said to unplug it and they would come change it out. Left town again for 2 weeks and came home to find that the detector was still unplugged. Called again and they told me they had forgotten to send someone. Unreal... My biggest issue is when people in the customer service industry tell you directly they don't have time for you. The above issues I had to call multiple times and if I did have someone answer they would be so rude or not know how to help. If I left a message they never called back. When I would call back and get someone on the phone I would directly and by multiple people be told " sorry we are really busy with other residents"... The worst service issues have to be when they re-piped all the units in 2018. We received notes that they would be doing this and that you would have to be out of your home during certain hours while they worked for 10+ days. The mess the workers left while carving out chunks of my wall from the bedroom and bathroom was awful. Not to mention my cat naturally got curious and would crawl into the wall. I had to move out for the 2 weeks and pay for a hotel. Of course they were not sympathetic. After coming back my water didn't work. The hot water did not work for several days and the maintenance manager was visibly annoyed whenever I would call to ask when I could shower again. Come on! Even moving out was a pain! I called and emailed dozens of times to get insight into anything else required after cleaning and returning my keys. I finally got a response close to a month later and when I complained about the overall AWFUL SERVICE, they made me feel like I was in the wrong. Thankfully I kept screen shots of ALL the ignored emails. Not like that did much but I wanted to give them insight into how awful their resident center staff is. Cannot be more thankful to be out of there, even if it cost me nearly $4k to get out of my lease early. read more

Shorewood is a great rental community if you have young kids and can't afford to purchase a home. The school district is wonderful, the island is safe and the people in the community are friendly. Now the reality- these units are old. You are guaranteed to get ants from April-September, some units even have rats...most of the work done on 'restored units' is questionable and the turnover is HIGH, understandably because no one knows what's going on. Quick feedback on the 'restored' units: we've been here two years...paint is peeling off of the walls (multiple walls), the wood has a sticky feel and it's apparently a varnish intentionally used, oh- our 'newer' dishwasher feeds dirty water into our sink, making both unusable for days on end. No repairs done yet and it's going on four days. Lastly-The property manager is bogus and barely makes an effort to effectively manage the property (hence why people are leaving/ both renters and employees). If they don't have time for you when you are trying to LEASE an apartment, I'm fairly sure they wont be there to help after the lease has been signed. At roughly 4:05 PM we were told that it was too dangerous to show us a tour of a unit because it was getting dark. It was not dark. It was 4 PM. I strongly wanted to ask if it would also be dangerous to walk around the premises past 4 PM if I lived there, but I figured I might as well take my time elsewhere. My boyfriend and I had a great time reading the recent reviews left by current tenants. Happy we missed a bullet. :) read more

Rant: They neeeever follow up. Call the residents center with an issue (like never receiving functioning key cards) and they say they will get back to you and NEVER do. One time they said their phones broke so they couldn't call ppl back. LOL! You keep feeling like you are harassing them and finally are required to go to the office only to have them seem annoyed that you are interrupting them. Seems like they need to hire more office staff. They are swamped in there! However I have had an amazing experience dealing with the maintenance team. And thank god because things are always breaking, alarms going off etc. Grounds are nice but when my lease is up seriously will not consider renewing as the office staff are so unorganized. Don't even get me started on the unintuitive way things are billed and how they cannot explain it to you. read more

I write this as I've been standing in front of my apartment building for 45 minutes with the fire alarms going off. This is the 3rd time in as many months. In short, it's the worse run complex I've ever known. Management changes hands constantly. You can never get hold of anyone. They are in and out of your apartment seemingly monthly testing and retesting stuff, saying they need to come in to see or clean something then rescheduling it until you eventually give up. The lawns and green spaces are nice but It's not worth it. Live anywhere else. read more

A positive review to balance the negative: Our move in experience was TERRIBLE. Our move in time was pushed back, our entire place had not been cleaned (everything was sticky, drawers were filled with dirt), and the unit stank of urine. That said, Mica in the leasing office singlehandedly made our experience from a nightmare into our wonderful new home. She coordinated our carpets getting fully replaced, always followed up with us on issues, and was incredibly understanding the whole time. Shorewood Heights doesn't deserve such a dedicated employee. Maintenance always follows up on our issues 1-2 days later, very quickly. And at the Shorewood's price point, with free parking and amenities, I really can't imagine a better place to live. TLDR: Move in was a nightmare, Mica in the leasing office coordinated everything getting fixed, now living here is an affordable dream. read more

Supremely disappointed with my experience here. Don't expect any professionally managed apartment to give two shits about you, your family and your needs. Don't expect them to hold their side of the bargain on your lease terms. Do expect to be gauged at move out. Do expect to have issues finding parking every night. I have lived here a little over 4 years. The area is safe and serene. True, through multiple management changes and the issues that were raised, the current team have been striving to make improvements on many issues. I travel so often, and need a place to feel secure while I'm away. They have made me feel that. They responded in a timely manner, and follow up on requests. Special shout out to Shannon for helping, following up. Temara had been the person I reach out to, and am glad she is there. Through many changes, Shorewood Heights is still my home, and I love staying here. They have been improving many aspects to make this community better. Maintenance, Curt in particular, is a sincere, trustworthy kindest person you will ever have helping you. read more

Just moved in a week ago into what was supposedly a "newly renovated" unit. I was told the place was cleaned and move-in ready. Upon move-in, I discovered the non-carpeted areas (kitchen and bathroom) were dirty. There was dust and debris all over the floor. The carpet seemed new but had clearly not been vacuumed because there were little pieces of what I think were chips of wall-paint scattered on the carpet. When I raised this concern with one of the managers in the leasing office, she told me "this unit has been vacant for a while, and has been shown around to a bunch of people, so they probably forgot to clean it before you moved in." Ultimately, I ended up cleaning the place myself. The unit was definitely not in "move-in ready condition" I noticed there were large, disgusting stains in the toilet. When I submitted a ticket for this, I was told "porcelain always comes to life" and that "this could easily be cleaned." I'm annoyed that I am expected to clean the toilet myself upon move in, when I am clearly not responsible for the stains. Upon move-in, I also noticed the toilet was pretty small and is a great inconvenience to use. I raised this concern with one of the managers and requested for a larger toilet. I was told they would order parts after Christmas. However, now I am being told that this request cannot be entertained because the toilet is functioning properly, and there is no grounds to approve such a request. When I expressed my disappointment with the fact that they were refusing this request despite initially suggesting it would be taken care of, I was told that I could order my own toilet and they'd be happy to install it for me. Upon, move-in, I deposited a check for the pro-rated rent amount for December. Naturally, the check wasn't cashed until after Christmas, but I was slapped with late-fee charges. I had to take the initiative to remind management to remove the late-fee charges, since I had already deposited the check in-time. Not a big issue, but definitely a big inconvenience to have to constantly check your account to make sure there are no erroneous late fees. Overall, I can definitely say the attitude of the management was very welcoming and warm at the time I was trying to make-up my mind with regards to signing a lease, but that seems to have changed since I moved-in. I will continue to provide updates, but my initial impression has been disappointing. read more

I have never written a review, but I have to write one on shorewood. Horrible management. STAY AWAY! I lived there for a year and a half with my boyfriend. We were getting bit by something for at least 6 months. First, we tried to fix this problem ourselves, but nothing worked. Finally we contacted the management and they 'attempted to fix the situation'. They sent out the pest control company, in which the guy looked around for 5 min, both times, then proceed to tell me that it could be 'all in our heads'. We have gone to the dr for this issue, and verified that we were getting bit by some kind of pest. After about 4 weeks of going in circles with the management office, they could not find a source. They never looked in the walls, in which we have heard rats scurry around, and never looked around more than 5 min. Then they told us it was our fault because they thought the pests were in our furniture. Our neighbors also had mite issues, and a hole in their wall from rats. I am very unhappy about how they handled this situation, and half assed their way through it, and ended up blaming us. They wouldn't let us break our lease. Eventually, we paid our way out to move. Since moving, keep in mind we have the same furniture, we have not had one single bite. Although it is a great location, and the only semi-affordable place on mercer island, STAY AWAY! read more

Worst place I've ever lived. I work all day 6-7 days a week and every other night I come home to a new problem and by chance a new property manager that no one knows about. They will do anything to cover up the bed bugs the dog piss on your patio and anything else that makes them look bad. I would first like to say the maintenance team has been wonderful. They reply quickly to every request I've put in, are beyond professional, friendly, and efficient, and I've never encountered an employee who was anything less than kind and welcoming towards me. That being said, I understand every complex has issues, but this is by far the worst I've had to deal with. Please keep in mind while reading this that I live in a 1 bedroom apartment on the second story of my building. I have had pest control come into my apartment four times now; they've sprayed twice and set out spider traps as well, but none of these things are working. I realize it may sound slightly ridiculous to complain about spiders, but I feel like I'm living in an infestation of them. There are probably around 6-8 spiders/day in my house (huge brown ones), and I live on the second story! I've documented my experience with this on social media, and I get tons of messages from people all the time saying "I have no idea how you can live like that!" and friends of mine don't want to come over due to this issue. On top of this, I HAD A BAT IN MY APARTMENT!!! Not only do I have to deal with a ridiculous amount of spiders every day, but then I come home, get out of the shower, and get dive bombed by a bat!!! When I reached out to maintenance they suggested I call 911 because getting a bat out of someone's apartment is not covered in overtime - ridiculous!!! Luckily my amazing neighbors happened to hear my screaming and came over to help me. On top of all of this, I have had to pay upwards of $500 in parking tickets since being at this complex because there is never any parking. I'm not sure what I am supposed to do when I get home after 9pm and there is not a single usable parking space on the entire lot, I'm a 22 year old woman - walking far distances in the middle of the night alone is absolutely not ideal. I reached out to the complex via phone call on Friday 8/30/2019 at 9am, noon, and 4pm to discuss this and was told every time that they were "off-site" and "would have management call back". I received only a generic email asking for permission for pest control to enter my home from them on 9/3, to which I responded with almost exactly what I have detailed above, and it is now 9/5 and I've received no response. If I could put 0 stars I would!!! Their staff in the residence center is so unprofessional and rude. They charged us moving out cleaning fees after we did a professional carpet cleaning and left spotless apartment after. I personally bought new stove drip pans and they charged us even for that!!! We requested a move out inspection (that must be done according to the leasing contract). They scheduled it 3!!!! times and 3 times no one showed up. I had to rescheduled my meetings at work and lost money because of that. Finally, we insisted to have an inspection. A lady from residence center showed up. She did inspection and said that everything looked good, however the final inspection will be happening after we move out. We asked if we can be present and she said that they document everything and take pictures for the report and that they will send us that report. We ended up with no report, and overcharged for stuff we disagreed with. There were more little things during our lease that represented how unprofessional and disrespectful they were when we asked them for any help. If you consider this company I would not recommend them. The parking is horrible, they repaired the roads and drew the smallest parking spots they could. My car on the sides is damaged from other people trying to get into their cars. The spots are so small you literally have to go inside of your car through the trunk!!!! I had to do it a couple times. Also, we noticed homeless people living in their vans in the parking lots. Shorewood does not track which cars are parked and for how long they have been there. This place was a huge disappointment from beginning to end. I've lived in several apartments before and this was by far my worst experience. The recurring theme here is that the ball gets dropped over and over by management. -If you are promised a call back in 10 minutes, you won't hear from them in 1 hour + -If you go to the leasing center with a question you'll get bounced between there and the resident center (whixh is usually empty) -Half the time if you call or email there is no response, which is why you have to go in to take care of stuff in the first place -There is no financial accountability and there are LOTS of unexplained fees. We were charged hundreds of dollars for gas despite not using our heating unit ONCE during our short term lease. -Management doesn't hold residents accountable for noise, garbage in the hallways or other lease violations so if you get unlucky with neighbors, you're SOL. -Greystar is doing lots of projects inside and out at this property and you, the resident, will be inconvenienced repeatedly. For 3 weeks we had repiping done and couldn't be in our apartment on days off. The walls were open for a full week and our furniture was displaced for those 3 weeks. And they didn't even tell us when they were done and could move our stuff back!! 3 weeks is a long time to have your kitchen and bathroom emptied. Isn't that what we're PAYING FOR? To LIVE in these stupid units? Oh, the trees are getting trimmed at 7:30am outside your window? Just part of life here at Greystar. Oh we're repaving the whole complex and the ALREADY LIMITED parking is now much smaller? Welcome home. My family wasn't shown any semblance of customer service. Greystar is nothing more than another greedy corporation and you will suffer for their benefit. read more

I would give it 0 star if I could. The only con for this apartment is that it is a little cheaper overall compared to other apartments on Mercer island 1. Location sucks. It will take you 30min walk to bus stop. We have cars and we drive to work so this one is bearable 2. Residents service is worst ever. It took them 1 whole month to correct my overcharged bill. And it's a result of me keep pushing them do their job. I have lived here for nearly a year and I still don't have key fob for the garage downstairs. They have free parking yes. But if you don't have key to garage it's useless. I ask for key fob at least 5 times. Now me and my roommate only have one key fob 3. We had a pet when we moved in. But we lost it for some complicated reason. So we asked to cancel our monthly pet fee 50 bucks. However it has be several months and we are still paying it. 4. The elevator breaks down all the time. It's a 3 floor building. Not big deal for young ones but think about elders living here. It's nightmare. 5. It stinks. They send someone collect garbage 4 times a week. And they use the same residence elevator to carry those garbage downstairs. Just imagine how it will smells like 6. Paint hallway without pre notice. Now they are painting the whole hall way every floor in our building. The smell is terriable. Definitely unhealthy for kids and elders. The apartment door is covered by dirt and dry paint. read more

Okay, I have to admit, I have lived at Shorewood Apartments now for 16 years and that doesn't count the 10 years that I lived here in the 80's and 90's before the initial renovation in 2001/2002. And I have never left a review. However, I want to take the time to show appreciation and acknowledgement to both Shannon & Betsy for their attention to my requests and concerns. Being a property manager is a thankless job - I know - as I did for HOA's and condos for more than 10 years. I got out and moved to construction. That being said - when I have something come up - I know I can reach out to one of these 2 ladies and the concern is resolved. Like the time my living room heater refused to turn off and I came home to an apartment over 90 degrees. Betsy immediately sent Josh out and with a little magic - he was finally able to turn that heater off. Problem solved within 15 minutes of my call to the Resident Center. Now that's service - plus it was just before 5pm. When the building heat was out a couple weeks ago - they got it up and running the same day. These radiators and boilers are tricky but again, great service. Shorewood is a huge community of 645 units. Just a personal thought - if people living there would take the time and "play by the rules" things would run smoother. Examples - Let's not drive the wrong way on a one-way road, try not speeding through the community at 35 mph - pick up after you dog; there isn't a complimentary poop pick up service just waiting for you - keep your dog on a leash, it's the law - abide by the garbage in halls rule - don't leave your stinky can out from Friday morning until Valet Living (Waste) comes to retrieve on Sunday - keep the noise and partying to a dull roar after 10pm. Just a few thoughts that would help the entire community out and allow management to do what they need to do. They are not a babysitting service. Over the years I have lived through 4 different owners/management companies - nobody is perfect but give people a break - they are honestly doing what they can. Being a property manager again is a job that people don't take the time to just say "thanks" when things go right. People tend to only complain - try taking a moment and give one of the gals a compliment. We all like being appreciated and a little thanks can go a very long way!!! I lived at Shorewood for about 17 months in a two-bedroom apartment. Overall, I wouldn't recommend living there. I was aware of some of the negatives when I moved in originally, and it was okay when it was cheap (about $1550 for a two bedroom apartment), but not for the $1900+ which they were asking for in a lease renewal. Also, it's been more than a month since I moved out, and after repeated emails and phone calls, they haven't sent my deposit back or even a move-out statement, which is illegal under WA law. They've given me the run-around each time I've contacted them - there's always another department or someone more important who is supposed to call me back and never does. Pros: - Safe neighborhood (same as all of Mercer Island). - Free parking for residents and visitors. - The grounds are spacious. Cons: - Apart from a few newer units, the apartments are old; they were built around 1949. The original doorknobs haven't been replaced and leave a weird metallic smell on your hands. Closets also have a musty smell. - Small kitchen and bathroom, at least in my apartment. - Bugs. Lots of silverfish, ants and other insects would come into my second floor apartment. - Floorboards creak and sounds easily travel between apartments. - Maintenance sometimes didn't bother to show up at all or contact me to reschedule, leading to repeated requests. - On a couple of occasions, management would schedule inspections with a window of any time within a three day period, and then not bother to show up. - The rent has been jacked up a lot - far too much for the quality of the apartments vs. others in the area. - The location is okay for driving, but not close enough to walk to much easily. - Often hard to find a parking space close to your apartment in the evening as it gets parked up. Some of the above might be changing, as the property was managed by Pinnacle when I moved in, but is now under Greystar since just before I moved out. However, I don't have high hopes. Everything has been very disorganized during the transition, and the move-out process has been incredibly negative under Greystar, as mentioned above. This isn't the first time I've had move-out issues with Greystar, either. Unless you can get a great deal, I'd look elsewhere. It's probably still the cheapest place on Mercer Island, but you get what you pay for. I've moved elsewhere on the island and I'm already much happier. read more

I currently live at Shorewood and have been here for about 2 months. In this short span of time, multiple problems have already occurred. PROBLEM 1. We moved in right when they were beginning a repiping project of our unit. We were forewarned of this, but not all information was provided. We were not told that water would be shut off during work days and I had to find this information out the hard way - I had no water access during the 5/12 business days they worked on my unit. They also had to take apart some of our closets to get to pipes behind - On the 12th day, the project was still not done. We asked one of the contracted workers from the outside company they hired why one of our closets was still not done. He said he had lost the shelves and would need to check in later. This problem could have easily been solved if Shorewood was constantly communicating to the contracted company about the progress of the repiping project. They would have figured out a way to replaced the shelving so the project would be done on the day it was promised to be done. PROBLEM 2. They recently decided to make the club house which includes the resident lounge/gym key card access only. Nobody was ever notified of this new installment. My sister and friend also live here and they were never notified. I went to the gym one day to find it locked. It wasn't until I called THEM that I was informed of this new installment. I also called about a week afterwards to receive the new key card - they said they had run out and would notify me as soon as more would come in and just left it at that. Did not notify me of an alternative way to get into the gym until I followed up with them again regarding this issue. Also of note, my sister received a key card and it is temperamental, it doesn't always work. PROBLEM 3. Our dishwasher has not been draining properly and we had someone come take a look at it on 6/5. We were told they would get us a new dishwasher. It is now 7/2, almost a month after and we still have not heard from them. Does it really take 1 month+ to order and install a new dishwasher? PROBLEM 4. We provided ample proof of a copy of our renter's insurance upon move in, with a confirmation email that it was received. Just checked our online charges and saw we have been charged since move in for a $15/month non proof of renter's insurance fee. Called the front desk at the resident center and we were just informed that an apartment wide notification had been sent regarding insurance audits, and that we should have received it. Not even addressing the fact that we did provide ample proof and what can be done to remedy the situation. As echoed from the previous reviews - professionalism and accountability is nonexistent. Property management has decided to re-pipe the entire apartment complex's potable water network. This would involve construction work on every single apartment for 7-10 business days between 8 am through 6 pm, including, but not limited to, abatement, plumbing, dry-wall repair, and painting. Through the course of the re-piping, residents were told that they should expect water shut-offs, in addition to water supply being turned off during working hours (8 am through 6 pm). As this re-piping project was forced upon residents, management held a town-hall to brief residents about the process. I am very surprised people have anything positive at all to say about this apartment complex or the management, because every single resident who showed up at the town-hall complained about the poor state of the complex. Residents complained about various issues, ranging from dead rats in hallways not being cleaned up for several weeks to dirty hallways, crumbling fixtures, and general lack of response to maintenance requests. I was really taken aback to see how absolutely dissatisfied every single person at the town-hall was, which says something about the state of the property as well as the management. Management absolutely refused to provide any details about what residents were supposed to do and where they were supposed to go during times that the re-piping project would take place. They also said it is "impossible for us (management) to clean the debris and dust left behind from the abatement and dry-wall repair", essentially telling us we were going to have to take care of the mess left behind ourselves. No compensation or recourse for residents during times that they are prevented from occupying their apartments. I truly regret signing a lease at this complex. Please save yourself the hassle and trouble; sign a lease elsewhere. Management here is absolutely indifferent to tenant concerns. State of the property is dirty, to put it mildly. Maintenance requests will go unheard, and 9/10 times, management will reject maintenance requests, claiming there is nothing wrong. The positive 5-start reviews here are most likely by shills from within the management. read more

We have lived in Shorewood for a decade. We love the Island, the beaches and parks and the schools are great. Thanks to Greystar and people like Betsy in the office, we now love Shorewood. In the short time since Greystar has acquired the property there has been a great effort at making this a 5 star place to live. They have worked hard to improve the property and the folks in the office are great. Extra props to Betsy in the resident center! She has been amazingly attentive our needs and offers genuine support and practical problem solving. Thanks to Greystar for making me love my home again. read more
