The marker has the same text on each side and it reads, "Built in the early 1840's by Major James Stephen Bulloch. His second wife, married in 1832, was Martha Elliott. Their second daughter, Martha (Mittie) Bulloch and Theodore Roosevelt married here in 1853. Their son Theodore Roosevelt was the 25th President of the United States. "Elliott Roosevelt, another son of Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch, was the father of Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, who married her fifth cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 31st President (1932-45)." All are located within a 1/2-mile radius, and 2 are literally within about 200 yards of each other. We started our tour with Bulloch Hall. It is located a bit south of the main Roswell business district. They have dedicated parking lot. Adjacent to that is a gift shop, but visiting that is optional since there are no tickets to buy. This was also the home with the highest profile historical connection, that being Teddy Roosevelt's mother. It was her family that built the house and she had lived their for part of her childhood. We wandered up to the main house and entered via the front door. The docent on duty was friendly and just asked for our zip code and how we'd heard about the venue. You are then free to wander the house via whatever route you like. Most rooms have a sign with a 4-digit code. You call a phone number and enter successive codes as you proceed. For each code, there is an accompanying description of the room's historical context and of its furnishings. The mansions of this period all seemed to follow the same basic floorplan - a central linear hallway with 2 or 3 rooms off each side and a staircase at the end. There was also a cellar/kitchen area and an upper floor. Most rooms just had period furnishings but some were given over to history displays, such as the family tree of the owners or their family's military participation. The same code scheme extends to part of the grounds and one or two outbuildings. I thought this was a fairly interesting place. It provided a good overview of what life was like in the area in the 1850s, at least for the upper tier of local society.

There are two structures on the grounds that are all that is left of the mill. These are great for photo shoots. Finally, there is a shaded playground with a lot of new equipment, as well as a bocce court. Oh yeah, the neighborhood association also hosts a Parktoberfest there that had great beers last year! If you only had time to tour one house of the 3, I'd still begin with Bulloch Hall. However, this place was nice to visit if you have another 30 - 45 minutes.

We entered the wrong door but the gracious woman who is a docent welcomed us warmly! She gave a grand tour of the home with many interesting stories about its former residents. The home is well maintained, plus has some actual furniture from the owners and other items representative of the era. I wish I could recall the woman's name who gave us the tour, she was amazing! That is the background noise you hear. The whole time. I ended up playing some music. Lots of birds due to bird houses. Really nice little walk and spot. Take a break and enjoy.

Check the city's website http://www.woodstockga.gov/90/Special-Events This charming place located in the center of downtown Woodstock features a gazebo, a water fountain, a war memorial tribute as well as a 9/11 memorial. There is also a time capsule as well as a centennial clock. Towards the front there are two drinkable water fountains for public use. This area is very family friendly as it is close to all the shops and restaurants in the downtown area. It's well maintained and gets lots of use on the weekend...hope you'll stop by and check it out.

They have multiple benches and a fountain. I have seen tons of wedding parties taking pics in this beautiful setting. While you visit the park, make sure to walk Main Street! They have great shops and fantastic restaurants! Some of my favs include; Dress Up, Morgan's Ace Hardware, Salt Factory, Reel Seafood, and Mad Life Stage & Studio. There are new businesses popping up like crazy! They recently finished a beautiful amphitheater located right behind the park. If you haven't visited Downtown Woodstock, it's a MUST see in the OTP!

I should be a shame of not knowing more about the town I lived in. The historian the rides along was great and took time to point out most of the hot spot on the tour. Wished there had been more time on the tour to exit the buss and shoot some pictures. Our next trip back home will be spent driving our selves to some of these places. In today's world where people are trying to erase history instead of embracing it, this is a tour you must take!! They are doing some improvements and adding some more sights so we will have to take this again on our next time out.

No commercial or businesses allowed within the community is not only a way of life for the people here but it's a statement that not everything needs to be about profit. I have a GA state fishing license and trout license which has allowed me to fish at 99 percent of all public waters but this one. I feel taken advantage of and there are much more available waterways to fish in the state anyways.

A very well maintained nature preserve with short trails for a perfect hike/stroll through the…read morewoods. At first glance the trail entrance seems like you are walking through the back of a car company - the parking lot is off Roswell Rd in the Tag office parking lot. But once you enter and see the trail signs you are taken from urban business buildings into a gorgeous forest preserve. There are a handful of bridges and streams to see. I suggest sitting near the stream and taking it all in. The loop may be fairly short but it is a great stop for a solo stroll, with friends or pets on a leash. There is a water fountain and bathroom near the parking lot should you need one. I'd call the hike easy though there is a small incline slope going down into it. The trails are a mile or under and the main one loops around. We were there during winter after the Christmas holiday and saw an abundance of beautiful brown and orange leaves everywhere. There was even a tree decorated with nature friendly ornaments. This preserve is a nice little gem in the middle of an urban area to give you just enough quality nature time if you need it.
