Yesterday, 5/9/26, I experienced something that was humiliating, upsetting, and honestly…read moreunacceptable. I booked a flight with Southern Airways Express from Lancaster to Pittsburgh. When I arrived at the airport, I requested wheelchair assistance because I have Cerebral Palsy and need help with long distances and stairs that do not have secure railings. I was told they could provide a wheelchair inside the airport, but they could not help me board the aircraft. Staff explained that the plane required passengers to climb four steps that were secured only by rope, and they said helping me physically would be a "liability." I was then informed that because I might not be able to independently get on and off the aircraft during an emergency, I would not be allowed to fly. As a result, I had to cancel my trip completely. I later called customer service. Although the representative apologized, she told me I should have requested accommodations when booking my flight -- despite there being no option to do so during the booking process. I was also told I potentially could have been physically carried on and off the aircraft and that I should forward my concerns to their legal department. I checked the airline's website afterward and could not find any disclosure warning passengers with mobility disabilities that they may not receive boarding assistance or may be unable to fly. People with disabilities should not have to fear humiliation or uncertainty simply because they are trying to travel. Accessibility and dignity matter. I'm sharing this because others deserve to know before booking with this airline, and because situations like this should not continue happening in 2026.

It's now 9:04 and flight was to leave at 8:50. He assures us the plane will not leave without us. Very frustrating way to begin a vacation!
