I read "World Performance Arts Center" and thought it seemed a bit presumptuous for what I figured would be a small college theater. It is actually "Wold" in honor of the major donors haha, my bad. The theater is not small at 750 seats. The venue still looks new inside and out, and it is almost 20 years old. The lobby is amazingly airy and spacious with a reception area and stunning contemporary chandeliers. The theater itself is modern, with warm woods and bathed in red...red curtains and seats. It is a beautiful performance arrangement with good sightlines and excellent acoustics, with fine sound system (based on the mics the actors wore, I could hear almost every word). No wonder it was selected for the final televised 2012 US Presidential Debate between Obama and Romney. Rest rooms are huge and clean. One minor note is the box office can be slow to purchase tickets and there could be wait. In this day and age, when purchasing with a credit card, why do they need to manually type in billing address, etc.? Update the system so the ticket buyer only has to insert the card and be on their way.

I enjoyed "Ethan Bloom" the independent film presented at the Movies of Delray. For $8 I had a fabulous evening here. This sweet coming of age film had an All-Star cast that was both funny and profound. The film touched on themes of grief, spiritual identity, first love & belief that faith and love can transcend religious differences. I enjoyed the background information presented by the director & producer Herschel Faber. Afterwards he answered many questions from the audience. I used to enjoy film clubs & events in my NYC independent theater; the Movies of Delray are truly a gem here!

It has intimate seating, is immaculately clean, easy free parking, or valet, elevators for older patrons, nice bathroom facilities, hi-tech sound and audio equipment for a smaller space, the lighting sets that I witnessed, which I know nothing about in technical terms, were up during a production of my daughter's summer musical were artistically so far beyond what I have seen at adult regional theatre. This blew my mind! I felt like Judy Garland was going to pop out at any moment! The show that the group put on in that space, all with amateur kids, was beyond my wildest expectations. They made a play that was $12 that I would have paid to see on Broadway for $80 and still felt it was worth it, both because of the space and how well the kids were received by the audience, cracking up with laughter and crying during the emotional scenes. There is great food all around the area of the Arts Center here, free garage parking, paid metered street spots, an even valet at a downstairs Jazz club in the same building. Best area of Boca for culture and stuff to do. This kids drama troupe was phenomenal, and the space was more than I had expected. The friends that I dragged along to see my kids perform were expecting a auditorium stage like in a cafeteria with a performance by kids that was unbearable, and they left leaving stunned and thrilled with what they thought would be a waste of a night but wound up being better than an actual Broadway NY night now! That was an actual comment that I heard! Unbelieveable. They (the Arts Center, not the kids theater) did a great job turning this downtown building over into a multi-performance, restaurant, club, and office space from what occupied it before, the Cartoon Museum. If you ever have a chance to see a show here, especially if it is a kids show with that summer group, take advantage, and get in some much needed cultural arts into your life for a good price and a great night out! Take my advice. This place is a gem in a largely culturally-void world of South Florida, especially Boca. It was easy to buy tickets, easy to take wheelchair-bound people to, and easy to see a musical theatre show with intermission there. Tremendous experience at this venue!

The Boca Raton Children's Museum is located in one of the oldest homes in Boca Raton, (1913)…read moreSinging Pines. The home was originally owned by Boca Raton pioneers Mamie Myrick and her daughter, Aldah Myrick who had one of the first automobiles in Boca Raton. In 1917 the house was sold to its next owners Nellie and George Race. Their daughter Race Williams named the house Singing Pines because of the sound the wind made when going through the pine trees on the property. Race entered a nursing home and passed away in 1979. The house was moved to Memorial Park in 1976 and the name Singing Pines was changed to Children's Museum when it opened with it's first exhibit Pioneer Kitchen. The museum is very small but wonderful for toddlers and the preschool set. Admission is $5. The different play stations are Ricketts Corner Store which gives children the opportunity to play store in a recreation of Boca Raton's first grocery. KidsCents Bank Sponsored by First Southern Bank has bank teller windows and a vault so kids can practice their money skills. Oscar's Post Office gives children the opportunity to make postcards for a friend. Dr. Dig's Back-Porch has fossils and a puzzle. The Children of the Wilderness demonstrates the pioneer history of Singing Pines.There is also a pirate ship and fort outdoor exhibit and water tables for water play which are sponsored by FPL. This little museum is filled with old fashioned charm. What a wonderful place to get kids to put down the tablets and just play and interact. I love how this historic home has been transformed into a place of play and learning for children. I think that the civic leaders and pioneer women who occupied the home would be happy that it is continuing in this way. I had a lot of great times in this museum with my daughter who is grown now. I especially loved coming for the Halloween party. I was glad to see that they are not only going strong but expanding and increasing their programs for the public.

There's no attendant at the front, so you head to the concession counter for your movie snacks and to have your tickets scanned. We sat in the back row, which does not have the in-seat ordering service. Also worth noting--those seats do not recline. You'll need to upgrade to the Lux if you want the reclining seats. The screen was crisp, the sound system was great, and the theater itself was really comfortable. What impressed me even more was seeing attendants waiting to clean the theater as soon as the movie ended. That seems to be few and far between nowadays! The women's restroom was also very clean--my last restroom experience at another fairly new theater was basically a horror movie of its own. Parking can be a little bit of a walk since the shopping center gets busy, so you may end up a few aisles away, but everything is still very walkable and it really wasn't a big deal. I live in Lake Worth, and after some not-so-great experiences at theaters closer to home, I would absolutely make the drive back to Deerfield Beach to enjoy a clean, comfortable theater again. Definitely recommend!
