I've been here hundreds of times over the years, but I stopped in recently to grab a snack, use the bathroom, and get some gas for a little adventure up to Spruce Knob. FYI: This is one of the only places in the area to get gas that is usually open when you need it. Thank you because I forget to get gas in Elkins and everyone else was closed. Yikes! Every time I am here I enjoy eating their food whether from the store or the restaurant up stairs, I love looking around at all the cool stuff they have for sale, I am always buying this or that, and I truly enjoy sparking up a convo with one of the owners or employees. Also, there's usually a bulletin board up displaying events happening in the area like live music, farmers markets, yard sales and things of this nature. More importantly, and the reason I am writing this review, is that Midtowne Market stocks an ever changing selection of unusual/hard to find beers. They stock Rouge Ales, Bell's Beer (a good brewery from Michigan), and many other brands that you will be hard pressed to find without a trip to Northern Virginia. Finally, note that their selection is ever changing, so on a positive note there will usually be something new to try, but on a negative note, you might find your new favorite beer only to have it disappear the next time you visit. It's not perfect, but it's a refreshing change from the usual beers sold at supermarkets elsewhere.

Pepperoni rolls are near and dear to my heart. They are comfort food from home. I have rarely found them outside of West Virginia so when I visit I pretty much eat a pepperoni roll diet for a week. The pepperoni rolls here are a bit different. They are soft and light and fluffy. Most of the ones I find are made from a thicker bread that's heavy and dense. I find the pepperoni and cheese ratio in these to be perfect. Not too much of any one ingredient. I tried the special of the week which was Crab Rangoon and I wish I didn't--not that it was bad, it just wasn't a real pepperoni roll. Then of course I got a regular one and a jalapeño one. My son got one regular and as we at them in the car he asked if he could have another so I gave him my card and back he went. They were about $4.50 each. Later when we came back through town after going to Blackwater and Douglas Falls, he asked for yet another and of course I obliged. I took mine to Blackwater Falls and ate it there. Nothing like enjoying West Virginia's most iconic waterfall while eating its most iconic food (sorry WV Slaw dogs). The liquor store here is convenient. Prices were only slightly marked up except on one bottle. The distillery and other stores have it for $65-69 and they had it for $110. I would have purchased it for the real retail price. They had a great selection of WV bourbons which was very nice. We will definitely be stopping here now each time we pass through, especially since Hellbenders closed.

My family of origin did not do biscuits and gravy, chicken wings, pizza, pepperoni rolls,.... We delight in the Mountain Pepperoni Roll Trail.... There's butter, cheese (no fancy cheese to go with wine, though), milk, yogurt, some meat (pork chops, chicken breasts, NY strip steak, bacon, bologna). There's a variety of ice cream. For pantry items: an assortment of chips and snacks, oatmeal, canned beans and other canned items. I was not impressed with the bread selection (lots of white and some honey wheat). There's bagels, but its $7.50 for a bag. There's stuff for baking- sugar, flour, etc. There's wine and beer, like others have mentioned. I was hoping for some fresh local goods, like pies or breads, but there's none of that to be found here. And even though here are a number of places in both Petersburg and Morefield, this is my favorite place of all. The staff is friendly, the gas is relatively more inexpensive (as long as you use the Sheetz card which knocks off 2 cents off the price... there is ample space for dog walking right next to the station, and the made-to-order food is always fresh. My pup Tango likes the meat from a chicken sandwich or the chicken tenders... In addition, the store contains a variety store with the necessities. I wish they carried soy milk for the lactose intolerant, but that's probably way too much to ask in the WV hinterland....

Yes, the interior has snacks and supplies galore as well as most of the terrific "order from the touch screen" conveniences we've come to expect from Sheetz. But the store is a bit dated and dingy. There were railroad tracks and several types of railroad equipment, including a couple engines and even some cabooses. Unfortunately, the tracks are a long buried and even washed away where they crossed the creek. I don't think anything has run here in many many years, but it was still incredible to see they had their own man-made creek that originally had a concrete bottom and stonewall sides with a very neat covered bridge. I guess they had live animals at one time, but all I saw were some geese. I didn't get a chance to venture too far because the grass was very high and I didn't want to take a chance of getting ticks. There is a nearby store which serves lunch counter food, I had a foot-long hotdog and fries, which was quite good and reasonably priced they also have soft serve ice cream. I found the place by accident by taking the back roads on my way across West Virginia. I'm really glad I found it. It's just a place I enjoy.
