Same review I just left on Google. I will give two stars only due to the fact the nurses and security guards were extremely nice. We spent less than 4 minutes with the doctor. Don't get me wrong. I am truly appreciative to get an appointment so quick. However, I feel disappointed. The doctor comes in. He says hello. Ask my daughter to bend over so he could see her back. And asked where her pain was. Said he would see her back in a year to monitor her back. No concern for her pain. He didn't feel her back was too much of a concern even with it being curved for a 4 year old. Pretty much blamed the X-ray curve being on her "leaning" which she wasn't. She held on to a bar to keep her as straight as possible. (Which I have a photo as proof.) They even retook images to ensure she wasn't leaning and was straight. The appointment today was just rushed. No explanation, nothing. I honestly don't know what "normal" scoliosis looks like, especially not in a 4 year old. Her primary doctor says scoliosis is more common in teenagers. I have no clue what to do. I still don't have any answers. Wasted over an hour drive for 4 minute first time appointment is crazy. read more

When I went back to pick them up, nobody knows anything, and they seem entirely more concerned with preventing people from passing the reception desk without being challenged, than they are about the status of their patients, or their whereabouts. read more

Unfortunately was not referred to a regular hospital. They seem to be more concerned with billing insurance than patient concerns. I guess the surgeon did ok except for the after care. They don't care how much school the patient misses, as long as they get their office visit paid. I was biased before like Dave M. but they have convinced me to not belong to Shriners after this year, there are other good works my dues and donations can go to. read more

The referral staff is awful. My son's pediatrician put in an emergency referral for a broken leg and Shriners is telling us that it means nothing because their doctors have to review his chart and determine whether it's a bad break or not, which I don't mind, but I was told it would take 3 days just to review X-rays. And that they may deny us care if their doctors see fit. They will not inform us if the care is denied so we have to keep calling back to figure that out. They also said we can't call back more than once a day because we can't hold up their phone lines. This care is absolutely ridiculous. If I as a parent waited this long to get my child medical care I would have CPS and possible neglect charges against me, the same should go to medical providers that don't take care of patients that are referred to them. read more

My daughter was referred here due at 6 weeks due to hip dysplasia. She is now 4 months old and still does not have an appointment. I have called multiple times asking about scheduling. Every time I call they say their scheduler is out and she will call me back OR it just goes to voicemail. It should not take months to call someone back. I'm so frustrated because this is a time sensitive issue and the last thing any mother wants is for it to get worse. I thought they were supposed to be the best in the area. read more

Shriners practiced malpractice denying my 9 year old surgery based upon discrimination. And putting him in a cast when he should have never been in a cast. They wrote x-ray orders for the wrong arm. And now tell us we must remove the cast immediately as it is endangering him. Robert, the head of patient care was extremely disrespectful and unconcerned. In fact I have to say with the exception of AJ all Shriners employees have been rude and unhelpful. And my child still hasn't received care. read more

We literally cannot thank Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California enough for how amazing all of their team is. I need to tell this story because we need bright spots with how divisive and toxic the news cycle is these days. In the ER at Santa Rosa memorial, in the middle of saving multiple lives our Dr. Omar Ferrari was scrambling to find a children's hospital willing to take Emma on short notice. Both of the hospitals that were in our insurance network turned him down. So he called Shriners. He got the most amazing woman on the phone Dr. Claire Manske who spoke to us with such confidence, sweetness and understanding. She was willing to help as she is a pediatric hand surgeon....and as she is known in our family...the magic tiny hand lady. We were scheduled to see her the next day. I had called our insurance company 4 times while in the ER to make sure we were all good. I was disconnected 3 times and left a message the fourth. The next morning I called our insurance company and described the situation. They asked us to get our primary care Dr. to forward some info and told us we would be good. We did that and started driving the 1.5 hours to Shriners to see Dr. Manske. While in the car our insurance company called us to inform us even though we did as they asked us they would not cover the visit as Shriners was not in their network. Despite the fact they could not tell us if another pediatric hand surgeon was available and when we could expect an appointment and surgery. Dejected I called Shriners to tell them we wouldn't be coming because our insurance wouldn't cover it. I will never forget this sweet woman's voice as long as I live. "Oh....that doesn't matter....Bring Emma to us, we will cover whatever cost the insurance company does not. We provide care regardless of the patients ability to pay. Bring Emma, we want to take care of her." Before I spoke to this lovely woman I was in fight mode. I was going to get home and destroy, fight with every fabric of intellectual capacity to secure Emma the care she needed regardless of the coverage. But this woman just met us with love and said come let us help you. I cried. Seriously....this was an amazing response of love when I was in a place of fear and sadness. No fighting required. Just love. If you have never been to Shriners Hospital I can't explain what it is like especially when you are scared and afraid and need help. Every person we interacted with from the security guards to the woman who checked us in, to the nurses and Doctors greeted us with such warmth and love. Literally the nurses caring for Emma looked at her the way her family does, her Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents. They explained everything we needed to know multiple times. They were dialed in every step of the way at every level. Even their waiting room was dialed in for kids and parents. Seriously. This organization and their HR department and their volunteers, patrons and staff are special. Now that we are home I am so grateful to them to take something that was scary for us and make as easy as possible. They just loved us up. When Emma woke from surgery she reached out for one of the nurses to hold her and when we walked into the room for the first time this Nurse who was a mom of a little one, was just rocking her back and forth..Thank you Nurse lady :) Just had to share, because as I said....The world is filled with divisiveness these days. While our family is blessed in so many ways I am so used to having to fight, scrap, navigate, and apply administrative fortitude to achieve outcomes. In a time of need many people just said.....no....just come we will take care of your little one. Don't worry about anything...we got it. That's special...and I am so grateful to all the people along the way who treated us with such care and focus despite the chaos going on around them. Heros. Like Avengers status. read more

DR.VU plastic surgery Well she come out of recovery yesterday about 4:00pm amd she was doing good they took very good care of her and the team that was with her did a wonderful job when she got discharged they helped me get her to the car and she was not in any pain. They keep her pain away and sent her home with some pain mads and antibiotics today's is day one after surgery and shes doing really good shes not in pain as of yet and if she does the pain meds they sent home with her work really good s9hes got a little bit of black eys other then that shes doing good thank's again to all.... They have food there and parkinging as well so i did not have to go far for any thing nd if i could not find something some one helped me find it or got it gor me....And DR.VU did a wonderful job i will definitely recommend him to anyone I know that needs surgery. read more

My daughter was diagnosed with Scoliosis at the age of 11 and at the time, we just went to her pediatrician, he prescribed physical therapy. Meanwhile, the pain in her back just got progressively worse. My husband found out from a co worker about Shriner's and never knew much about it. The co worker told us that in order to be able to be seen here, you need to get an approval by a Shriner. We were able to get that referral and my daughter was seen her from the time she was 12 until the age of 15. I can't thank the staff and this hospital enough for the treatment my daughter received. This place is such a blessing to so many families. On our visits there, we've seen the hospital treat a wide variety of cases. They had my daughter use a brace for her back and she wore that for several years. Each time we went to our appointments they would x ray her to see if there were any changes. The x ray technician, can't recall his name, but he was such a crack up, always making patients laugh and smile. All of the staff here are genuinely passionate about what they do. My daughter's seventeen now and no longer needs to go to Shriner's. We don't know how the outcome would've been if we never found out about this gem in Sacramento. We really are fortunate to have this hospital in our town. We are so fortunate to have come here because your child's health and well being is, "Priceless!" read more

I was very lucky, for two reasons: 1. I have never known anyone who has needed to go here, and 2. I was privileged enough to work here while I was a genetics intern. The quality of service here is incredible. It is free, but you certainly get the feeling that you are at the most exclusive, high end hospital there is. Not only are the staff and doctors amazing, but it's designed to make kids comfortable. From the clown that checks you in at the door (no really, it's an actual clown) and gives out stickers, to the decor, to the little gifts and toys for the kids...this place is truly magical. It's a one-stop shop for everything the children need, be it genetic services, orthopedics, vision care, physical therapy, surgery, you name it. Compassion meets passion here, for children and families. I hope I never need to take any loved one here, but I thank God it exists for those who do. read more

My son has been receiving surgeries at this hospital every 6 months since he was 2 years old. He's now almost 10. His surgeon, Dr. Gupta, was always amazing, however, he has made a move and we have a new surgeon. I can't make a report on that one yet, but if he's anything like Dr. Gupta, I will be exceedingly happy with him. The second floor play room is always his goal after surgery. He can't wait until he can get out of bed and see what's going on down there. It helps a lot with the recovery, giving them something fun to look forward to. They also have the pet therapy people come in, and my son is like the dog whisperer. So when a dog walks in, he is all kinds of excited and they love him right back. Also, they have people that bring him things to do while he's bed ridden (We usually get Melissa and she's super sweet)...legos, crayons, video games. The nurses we see prior to surgery and in recovery are awesome. However, the nurses that monitor him in the patient rooms later are generally non-existent. Most surgeries have become routine and it's not an issue. His first big surgery and one other occasion when we had a complication, though, I was worried. When we needed someone, I could never find a nurse. His last surgery, a g-tube insertion, we were there for 3 days. We were lucky to get a nurse named Merida (sp?) that was AMAZING. I was relieved each morning when she arrived, knowing that if we did need something, she'd be right there. She went above and beyond and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job. I did have a bad time with my child's case worker for a while. The one and only person in charge of my child's "case". She was extremely rude, to put it nicely. I requested a new case worker, but she was the only one that did these patients. The person I spoke with did ask why I wanted the change and it gave me to opportunity to let someone else know how she's treating parents that are only looking for information about their child's health. This person agreed that the case worker was way out of line and I haven't had any issues with her since. There's also a complaint about the other patients at the hospital. We've had items stolen when were weren't in our room and most of the people we've shared a room with haven't been courteous at all. Then there's the one's that you hardly notice are there and twice we've had really awesome roommates. The kind that you hope you get every time. While I have these little complaints, I'd never want my son to be seen anywhere else. The surgeons and their staff are experts in their field and the little things that boost his moral make it an exceptional hospital. read more

Great hospital. While we were waiting for my 2 year olds appointment there was a lady with crayons and coloring books for the kids to color. She was super sweet. We only waited about 10mins. The doctor was very knowledgeable and took his time explaining everything to me regarding my daughter surgery. This review is specifically for orthopedics. My son broke his arm badly at school 4 years ago and this hospital told me that we would not be able to tell he ever broke it after a year. They did not offer or want to perform surgery to correct the deformity. I trusted their decision because they are supposed to be the professionals. Flash forward to now, his arm is still visibly crooked and his ulna pops out of alignment whenever he turns his wrist. I've taken him to other orthopedic surgeons who always want to refer me back to Shriner's. On x-ray the bone looks fine but there is clearly an issue. It is unfortunate that this hospital almost has a monopoly on ortho referrals. I wish more local hospitals would provide casting. I would recommend going elsewhere if it's possible. read more

Shriners Hospital was a blessing from God! My daughter's ligaments never developed and her knees were dislocating with every step. Dr. Haaus, Penny and all the nurses are amazing! Pre-Op nurse, Ed, is unbelievable. The Robin Williams of nursing. The care she is receiving is as good as it gets! Now, she is receiving physical therapy and they are just as fabulous. An emergency room visit with one of my children ended with a referral from their pediatrician to this place for a thorough check and perhaps surgery. Surgery was necessary and so my child was immediately scheduled for two days later. Upon arriving at this hospital the first time, I was taken back by how many children were waiting to be seen and how quickly everyone was getting called back to see the doctors. The front desk people start the journey you are about to take at this hospital and they do an amazing job at being pleasant and thorough. Once they called my child I literally stepped into a place full of angels. Everyone that spoke to me was respectful, compassionate and very supportive. I was nervous, worried and scared because none of my children have ever needed surgery for anything. Not only that but the one that brought me to this hospital happens to be autistic so I had no idea how they would work with him since he does not like to have strangers touch him and he is non verbal. The orthopedic surgeon came in to talk to me about my son's surgery and to answer any and all questions I might have. I found it so incredible that I never got that rushed feeling I ALWAYS get at any doctors appointments because they book 60 patients for every hour then don't even have time to answer the actual question you popped in for. The night before the surgery I received a call from one of their nurses. She was kind and thorough when explaining and answering my questions. On the morning of the surgery we were greeted by a woman that seemed to be able to understand my son. He was cooperative and allowed her to check his vitals, weigh him and check his height. Once prepping for surgery, we had an incredible team. The nurses were amazing. They were gentle, respectful of my son's boundaries and would always ask if ok to do something prior to just jumping in and touching my son as many usually just do because they are doctors or nurses. They'd introduce themselves to my son and say what they needed to do and he'd allow them. The anesthesiologist stopped by to explain things to me and also introduced himself to my son. This was incredible to watch. When it was time to give my son a shot to calm him down before wheeling him off to the surgery room, there were four people helping. It was hard to get that shot in because my son became very resistant but they patiently worked with us. They had to medicate him prior to wheeling him off because he is not the type to just let strangers just take him away from me and he would have jumped off that bed if not medicated. Once the surgery was done, I was called in to my son. The nurses there were amazing too. Very compassionate and very thorough. My son had to wear a cast covering the area for a month. When we returned to get the cast off, those working in that area were amazing too. Patient, friendly and so understanding. When the x-rays were done and I saw the work that had been done my jaw dropped. The area looked as if nothing had ever happened. The orthopedic surgeon has magic hands. Her work was impeccable. The injury was pretty bad and this doctor managed to fix it to perfection. I kept thanking her. She was so humble though. I had never seen that either. She was so good that if she wanted to toot her own horn she could have and nobody could say anything about it yet that was not her style. I'm grateful. So although I hope not to have to ever visit Shriners for anything serious again, I am feeling pretty blessed that when we did have to go, an experience that was awful was treated as if my son was the most important person in the world. He received the best care from amazing people. Everyone that works at this place is beyond special. It is obvious that they love what they do and that they care about every single human being that walks in there. Thank you. read more

I'm really happy with Shriners and all that they do. My sons specialist is AMAZING and we'd be lost without him. The equipment all looks old and outdated, but I'm hoping it's because this place is not for profit and not just a lack of caring. The staff is hit or miss. I've never encountered a rude person at the front desk, in an exam room or in orthopedics, but the receptionists where we check in to see my sons specialist are always, ALWAYS short tempered and act bothered by you. Perhaps I've always gotten the bad apples. They've never been polite on the phone either. But, I will tolerate all of it for Dr. Davidson. He's simply the BEST. read more

This hospital is great! They take great care of their patients and always try to cheer up the kids. They've put so much thought into making them feel like theyre not so much in a hospital. On the other hand their evening or night reception/"security " staff is horrible! Ive never met more unpleasant people in my life!! Amongst many other things they don't seem to want to talk to you and they talk bad about you and patients while you are right there. Its such a shame because this place is so great. Most would think I would give this place a five star rating. I go in here often donating cash on behalf others. They do host " A Tropical Affair" as a benefit for the burn unit. Some do attend. Here is where I find it lacking. 1) One may not go to the children's wards without some special permission even when wearing a costume. 2) They have not asked for a local Shriner's Bowl game featuring collegiate athletes. 3) They do not have very young volunteers wearing the fez . The downstairs is very sterile looking. They do help people for no fee. There are cures and patients do get new devices to help them cope with life as a disabled person. However, I have not seen evidence of Faith based clergy of any kind. Were I there today, I would donate. I would not expect a letter of reply to any suggestion I made on the donation envelope. A charity worth donating to. The outdoors needs less lawn . read more

Fantastic hospital for children (under 18)! It treats children w/ burns, and other special needs!! It has 7 floors with different specialties & best of all, their services are free!! It's very big and spacious--customer service is fantastic! It doesn't feel like a clinical hospital but rather cozy and home-like due to the soft colors, caring environment, and child friendly set-up such as the "monkey jungle" in the front lobby. VU plastic surgery Hi, my name is Kiah. I'm 15 years old and I'm a patient of doctor VU. Before i had the surgery i was nervous but the nurses and doctor VU walked me through everything and helped me not be so nervous. Everyone was so nice and kept checking on me, asking if i need anything or if i was okay. When i went into the surgery room i was kinda out of it because of the medicine the anesthesiologist gave me. Then they gave me anesthesia to put me completely to sleep and then they began the surgery. Surgery was about 3 hours but it went by really fast for me. When i woke up i was still kinda out of it because of the anesthesia but i didn't have any pain. When i got to the car i kinda felt nauseous but I never threw up. Finally when i got home i had a little bit of bruising but the medicine that doctor VU gave me took the pain away. I believe that doctor VU did a very great job and if i was to recommend anyone for rhinoplasty I would recommend them to doctor VU. read more

My son has been a patient at Shriners Sacramento for 10 years for his scoliosis. This week he under went surgery to correct the curves in his spine and received top-notch patient care from his surgeon to the nurses and CNA's and the administrative staff with 24 hour care. My son has Asperger's which made things a bit more challenging for everyone involved. Everyone helped to make his recovery go well and prepare us to go home. My son had to spend 5 weeks at Shriners Sacramento. It that time I was able to see the dedication and care needed to be given to a child. The treatment of a child I've learned takes a different kind of person! At Shriners over all we had amazing nurses who took such great care of my son. Some were exceptional during our time there and went out of there way to make not only my son comfortable but me as well during a very scary time. The way they treat the children explaining there every step was just what my son who already tends to be anxious needed. Virgie, Sarah, Mohani, Sierra, Deann, and Quincy at one time or another went out of there way to take such good care. We will be forever grateful for there hard work and love they have shown our son and helping him heal. I absolutely recommend Shriners! Hands down this hospital and the staff are amazing! From the first moment Shriners contacted me for my sons diagnosis of scfe Slipped capital femoral epiphysis! up until current, I have been more than pleased! From the hospital ,staff and most important the doctors! My son had a rough start getting His hip diagnosed! took more than 8 months to get it diagnosed, and I'm extreemly disappointed in the orthopedic doctor who told us he had scfe he never even told us what it was called, told my son don't run or jump! We had to ask for a pe note! he said he would need surgery ,I asked for a referral to Shriners! He said yes and told me I would get a call with in the week! over a week later I called the doctor wanting the status. the doctor forgot to send for the referral, leading on like my sons condition was no big deal! He sent the referal to Shriners and it was less than a hour later my phone was ringing and it was Shriners they asked if I could come right away to get my son in surgery , his condition was treated as a emergency with high priority! I took him down and the staff the doctors every one showed the true depth of how much they care about the children! Dr David, was the doctor who did my sons surgery and he was so informative he explained where we could understand and he had true passion for what he does and he cared so much, my son was in good hands! The hospital stay over night was nice big room ! I had a bed in my sons room and it was a nice stay! I have never in my life wrote a review on yelp and only written a couple negative reviews as to warn others about a product! I wanted so bad to get the word out about this hospital, no stress or worry when your children are in the care of Shriners hospital! Hands down the best hospital experience I had after my childrens birthing in paradise more than 15 years ago!
