So the husband and I just moved to bonham and I'm pretty much a total foodie. I love food, it is my life and so I'm eager to try EVERYTHING this little town has to offer my belly. Just tried this place and I think the biggest take away is that food is okay enough to come back but, oh my goodness at how much potential this place could have to grow. Forget about it. This place has an extremely limited menu a bartender that is capable of opening pop tops but not mixing any drink. Horrible experience all around. Wouldn't even let my ex mother in law come to this place Do yourself a flavor and NEVER COME TO THIS PLACE. However if you enjoy incompetent people this is the spot for you. read more

First time here and totally enjoyed the atmosphere (love the booths), the service (friendly and prompt), the prices (very reasonable) and most importantly... the food (very good!). I've visited this place a few times for lunch and it is consistently average. Prices are ok, food is decent, speed is so-so. Nothing really sticks out as wonderful or great in comparison to other eateries. Oh, and I hope you're not on a diet - this is good ol' country cooking complete with a ton of fried options and items smothered in creamy sauces & ranch dressing. If you want an appetizer, I'll recommend Victor's Stuffed Jalapenos or the Chicken & Shrim Embrochette. The jalapenos come with stuffed with shrimp, jack cheese, red chilies, and cilantro, and then fried to golden yumminess. I was surprised that the jalapenos weren't spicier, but still served as a good vessel for the rest of the ingrediants. This comes with a side of ranch, of course. The embrochette consists of bacon-wrapped chicken and shrimp, which is fried and then served on a mound of fried onions. Ranch & some spicy mystery dip complete the heart attack style dish. As a main meal, I've had the Sante Fe Salad, Grilled Shrimp, and the Catfish plate that was on special one day. The salad was massive, of course, and came topped with grilled chicken, tortilla strips, guacamole, pico, and sour cream... Oh & don't forget the southwest ranch dressing. Recommendation on this one: get the dressing on the side so as to avoid a drenched meal. I also opted out of the sour cream - seemed like overkill. But the chicken was good and the guac and pico were fresh, so yay for that. The shrimp was a simple dish, but cooked well. You also get to pick from side items, which led me to the fresh veggies. Eh, they were ok at best. Really, they were flimsy and oversteamed, I think. The baked sweet potato was alright, but really, how do you screw that up? Again, I opted out of the mound of butter that usually comes with it, but my arteries were already hurting at that point. The catfish plate was quite extensive given it was on lunch special. Of course, the fish is fried, but you get two fillets of it, so at least you can have leftovers. The breading was ok, but I thought it was a bit thick given that the fillets were relatively thin. The hushpuppies were a nice addition to the dish, but I can only stand so much bread, really. Still too much food for me, but it was less than $8, so why complain :) The waitstaff, while mostly friendly, are terribly slow and seem to mess up orders half the time. Everything gets fixed, but I don't see how it takes that much effort to get it right the first go 'round. I've said it before and I'll repeat it for those who may have missed it: its average, so don't go in expecting to be blown away. If you have average expectations and want a sit-down meal, then this is your place. read more

I was in bonham overnight and happened upon this restaurant pretty late... The staff was very friendly, despite the hour. Food was average... However the thoughtfulness of the staff made the experience well worth the stop. The host overheard that it was my birthday so after our meal, they brought me an ice cream sundae and sang happy birthday. Very nice gesture :) the drinks were cheap ($3.50 for well) and the mood was casual and inviting. I will definitely come back when we are in the area!!! Thanks! read more

It is a shame the service was so terrible and the food was bad. The facility and bar are very nice but that is the only nice thing I could say. I had a steak that was thin and over cooked, the vegies were out of a can. Nothing fresh. Wife had similar experience, nothing at all special about this place. We live in N.E. We wanted a beer and that was cold and good. Everything else was below average and for it to be 7 pm on a Saturday night, it was not busy. The bar noise was loud and having fun but we sat with 4 of us in a dark booth. Kid's food was good but my burger was burned and the pulled pork sandwich was dry. It's important to understand the palates of people from the south if you want to succeed in a steak and seafood restaurant in North Texas. I would recommend the fried mushrooms and drinks from the bar to anyone, but the chicken fried steak should not taste like a pumpkin pie or mincemeat. They need to keep the yankee twist out of the flour and meat; or maybe they don't care about selling a good chicken fry with simple flour, salt and pepper. Not my business, but I'm givin' my two cents. Another problem with the chicken fry is a soggy crust. Crust should be crispy. I'll just stop right there. Their bar is nice--don't drink and drive. The employees are awesome. The chicken fry was the answer. They need to take the Yankee spices out and fry it crisp. No Texan wants soggy, pie-spiced chicken fried steak. Love the people. We were out the other day and stopped by for dinner. We hadn't been here in years and it use to be pretty good. The table accross from us was seatted 10 min after us but received their food 15 minutes before ours. My husband's food was cold and my grilled chicken was thin and more like jerkey than chicken. I was hosting a baby shower for my niece who lives in Bonham. i live inanother town and had to do all the planning over the phone. i called and emailed several places looking for help and Shumardii's was so friendly and helpful that i decided to hold our event there. They set us up in a private room, rearranged the tables, set up a cake table and a present table. Helped us order appetizers and drinks for everyone and made sure we had everything we needed. This is a cool place to get together with our friends. We drive over from Paris and do not feel rushed to leave so we can have relaxed conversation. The wait staff was friendly, promt and didn't interrupt us too much. The food is simple and fresh. The restaurant wasn't too noisey. We will visit here as often as possible.
