I'm having a hard time saying anything nice about Gary Bicknell. He does his job. He definition of NICE not one recognized by many. He's matter of fact, black and white not nicer than he has to be. I'd be like that too I I worked alone and in a cave. Mr. Bicknell is blunt and curt to say the most. His estimates take a long time. I got mine in the mail 7 days after I dropped my lens off. Then when I paid up front for it the invoice and he told me that the repair would be 15! 15! Working Days! Seriously?! I've got to really look around for other repair places in FW. I'm sure he isn't the only game in town. If anyone knows, please let me know. I'd rather not go to Shutterworks again. read more

I busted the living sh*t out of my Nikon at home, and didn't have a reasonable alternative to fix it other than have Best Buy mail it out to the manufacturer for three + weeks of work on it. Enter Shutterworks. After dropping it off to a young, late 20ish male and given an estimate of a few days before it was even looked at (due to a first come, first serve basis with customers), I received word that my Nikon needed a new lens + shutter parts. The estimate would be 15 business days. Sigh. After receiving the repair estimate via email, I was surprised that the owner mentioned that with parts, my camera would be ready in 5 days. Awesome! I paid my invoice via PayPal, and I received another email a few days later that the camera was ready. In picking up the camera, I had an older man (assumed to be the owner) explain which parts were used in order to make my Nikon operable again. No fuss, no muss. Altogether, I didn't have too much to complain about. The location is just off of Henderson & another street close to White Settlement Road and directly across from a small gas station & German restaurant. Given its location, Shutterworks can easily be missed. Parking here is a slight issue, and you may be blocked in due to customer traffic if parking in front of the building. Highly recommended to park on the side. Very impressed with Shutterwork's repair timeliness & attention to detail in making my Nikon operable once again. read more

I came here for a simple film removal because I had improperly removed the roll from my Nikon FE film camera. I spoke with an employee about what I would like done (have them remove the film in a dark room to avoid exposing it and place it in a dark sealed canister) and I thought he wrote down what I wanted but apparently not. I came back the next day because I received notice that the service would cost $65 and when I came by to see why anyone would charge so much for such a simple task, a very rude man (I'm assuming the owner) told me that there was a service request as well (there was not) and that he was told to inspect the entire camera, which is not what I wanted at all. He then told me, still very rudely, that it would cost me $30 simply having had him look at it. The maneuver he did to remove the film was extremely simple and would have taken only about a minute to do myself and I would have if I had access to a dark room and if it wasn't film I cared a lot about. During this whole ordeal he treated me as if I was extremely stupid and I think he thought he could get away with charging me so much just because I am a young woman. I know my way around a camera. I know what he was charging me for was ridiculous. I will never be returning here and would not recommend it to anyone. read more

I have a lens that is experiencing some focus problems and, rather than sending to the manufacturer's repair facility, I decided to find a certified repair tech in the area. After a recommendation from a friend, I called Shutterworks. The guy that answered the phone did not sound happy that I was calling him and very quickly interrupted me to tell me what he needed to know as I attempted to describe the problem I was having. Not knowing what the service capabilities are I asked, "What type of repairs are you capable of with this lens?" His response was quick and harsh "Listen, I have been in business since the 80's." There was no comment as to his level of experience in this type of work, no questions as to the status of warranty, no interest at all in discussing the issue further to better understand my problem, nor did he attempt to inform me that he was certified to perform the work needed. I don't care how long he as been in business, I care about qualifications and quality work. I'll never know whether Shutterworks is capable of the work I need because I am packing my lens up today to ship to the manufacturers repair center. read more

PLEASE, DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! I am in the process of Suing Gary Bicknel to get my camcorder back. In February 2018 I dropped my Camcorder off to fix a minor repair, it was working and recording just fine, the rewind feature was not the only thing not working. I called several times in the next few months to see how the progress was going, each time I spoke to Gary (who said he was the owner), after 3 months of not getting anywhere with Gary, I asked him to just give me back my camera, at that time he confessed that he had accidentally broke another part and was waiting on that part to come in. I kept following up and Gary continued to say the parts were coming. After a few more months of this, I again told him to just give me back my camcorder the way I gave it to him, He refused to give me back my camcorder, and stopped taking my calls. This is an $1,100 camcorder. I was frantic, I finally got a hold of Gary (Recorded the conversation) he was incredibly rude, saying if I wanted my camcorder I could pick it up in pieces. I threatened to Sue him at which time, he calmed down and apologized, saying he needed more time. I continued to call and email on a regular basis, he basically had me over a barrel, because I was afraid I would never get my camcorder back. It is now 10 months later going into December and he now says he can't fix it and to come pick it up. (I advised him that I expected him to fix the part he broke, he said he was at his wits end and could not fix it, I told him the camcorder worked when I dropped it off and I want a working camera back, I expect it back in that same condition as when I dropped it off to you). He has stopped replying to my emails and I now have no choice but to Sue him. I also contacted the BBB so you should be very cautious about leaving your equipment here. I have been more that patient, and have documentation to take him to court, it sucks that I actually have to do this to get my camcorder back, I offered to settle this with him but he refuses to try and resolve this in any way. read more

I have used the Shutterworks in the past with no problem, but this time they burned my bridge and then some! I am a professional photographer and use my camera for weddings, portraits, etc. I took it in on March 5, 2015 to have the shutter replaced, which cost me 250.00. Got it back a week later, but the camera wasn't reading my lenses and was telling me the len's contacts were dirty. They weren't. The technician had BENT one of my lens contacts. Left the camera in for another two weeks and finally got it back. It appeared to be working. I took it on a photo shoot and, though in the small monitor on the back my photos appeared focused, in actuality not ONE was in focus. The whole shoot was a loss. I had to call my client with egg on my face and offer her money back. Took the camera back yet again. A week passed and today the owner, Gary, called to say it was ready. I asked what the problem had been and he said that a new technician had needed some retraining. When I picked the camera up, I asked for a refund on the original repair, since I had had so much trouble and had lost time and money. He rudely told me he wouldn't give me any money back on it. I explained again that as a professional, I stand behind my work and assumed he would, too. I asked for his insurance so I could file a claim. He refused, telling me to get a lawyer. I told him I would do that, and he told me to tell my lawyer to "kiss his ass!" I was floored. I told him I would never use them again and that I would post in the professional forums where I am a member about his service and lack of professionalism. He TOWERED over me (I'm 5'1, 120lbs; he's probably 6'4" and 300 pounds) and told me to get out of his shop. He then strode to the door, opened it and yelled at me to get out. Seriously.... These guys are great. I cracked the screen on my Nikon and they were able to fix it in TWO days! This was even while they were busy and moving between locations. Granted, since they already had the part available in store, it made the process slightly faster. But they are nonetheless efficient and fast. Great service too. read more
