Ordered two 3-4lb lobsters ad 4 lbs of clams from them on Thursday. Product was shipped and arrived at my house on Friday around noon. I opened the package and one lobster was allready dead and the other one died the next day, they certainly didn't appear to be 3-4lb lobsters, they looked like maybe 2 lb ones. There was NO ice included in the shipment, so its no wonder why they died. The clams were about a lb and not 4 lbs. I ordered through an email and paid with a credit card. I then tried to contact them with another e-mail, actually sent two of them, and have not received a response from them at all. Poor way to treat a customer. I paid for a product that I could not use when I received it and no effort was made by them to correct the issue in any way. Pretty sad that they treat an elderly customer with no respect, but they did keep the payment. Will never purchase from them again. read more

Have been coming here for years, never again. My husband and myself went on Christmas Eve day to purchase 2 3lb lobsters, scallops, cod and lobster tails. Went home, put the lobsters directly in the fridge. Never even opened the bag, cause why would we? We have been there many, many times over the past 10 years and never had a problem. When it came time to cook, one of the lobsters was dead. Went back today to just get a new one. My husband went in first, thinking it would be an even exchange, no big deal. He was met by a woman who from the start got defensive. Told my husband "What do you want me to do with it?" Then told my husband, "YOU HAVE 3 DAYS TO EAT A DEAD LOBSTER." That is probably the most irresponsible thing I've ever heard. And honestly, makes me question their quality of their product. After her causing a scene, my husband returned to the car with a new lobster. Lobster looked much smaller to both of us, so I went in to have it weighed and the old lobster weighed. I knew she was difficult with my husband, so immediately I went to the window to speak to the man and asked that they weigh the lobsters. Same woman came bounding from nowhere yelling at me that they didn't need customers like us. She was pacing frantically and aggressively around the store yelling at me. "I threw the lobster away." " Well, not my problem, please weigh it."I replied. She continued to refuse and caused a huge scene. She finally broke down and weighed the 2 lobster, almost exactly the same weight. She then bounced around the place, yelling some more at me like a child. Then proceeded to follow me outside and continue to yell at me. I was in this morning to buy some fish. I know it's busy and the holiday, but the woman serving the counter was very rude. I will never go back there again. She was also very rude and disrespectful to other customers. I later called and asked for what I wanted and the man who answered the phone said come.down in 1 hour. She preordered and the order was ready when expected although I suggest a call saying "we are on our way" to make sure. Picked up some extra items as the items in the case looked very tasty. Tons of options in the freezer case. Looks like they do a ton of shipping. It's not a fancy place so you know you're coming here for the fresh seafood. Holy Lobster... if you want HUGE lobsters (7+ pounds each!) and a huge array of seafood galore, this is your stop. Note: they don't cook anything for you, but items can be shipped frozen as well! I would recommend this place, wholeheartedly, to anyone looking for high quality seafood. We had leftovers for days (rarely happens), and the claw meat alone with around 6 ounces which is unheard of. Shyer's has been on S Broadway now for a number of years, used to have a store in the Cumbie's plaza but they closed that and now just have a hidden shop out behind Cumbie's. Sometimes I see their fish truck parked out front, and I know their there, but if it's not there. It is forgotten, as they have no sign viable to busy Rt. 28. Inside is a huge lobster pound with hundreds of tanks and shipping boxes. It looks as though they do a ton of restaurant business. Today I got some sole fish. $9.99 lb. Which was caught today off the waters of Boston. Not a huge fish selection, but I spied, haddock, salmon, mussels, clams, oysters, tuna steaks, swordfish, shrimps and scallops. They also stock some pantry items like lemons, spices, and VT Common Crackers. Service was friendly, and down to earth. Personable. My fish was delicious. read more

Do NOT buy anything here! This business is dishonest and does not respect customers. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Today this business cheated, charging me for more weight of lobster that did not exist. I picked up what was tagged by the store as 2.78 LB lobster costing nearly $53.00. I returned home and thought that the lobster package felt light for nearly a 3 LB lobster. So I weighed it on 2 different scales, including a kitchen scale. The lobster, including paper bag and plastic bag, weighs only 2.1 LB!!! I called the store right away and experienced rudeness, the store rep calling me a liar. 2 different scales are not wrong, especially cross-checked against other products on hand--1 LB spaghetti, rice, etc. I also cook professionally, which is why my experience told me that the package weight was too light, and 2 scales confirmed it. Customer service--horrendous!!! Cheating customers on weight of a costly product! Wow, Shyer's Lobster Pound thinks that customers are really stupid and they treat them exactly that way! Followup: I returned the lobster to Shyer's, along with my scale and a bunch of kitchen new products to demonstrate that my scale weighs properly. Kevin and another refused to admit to and error or cheating, and that my scale was wrong. (It is 2 different scales that had same weight). They tried hard to make the lobster weigh in higher on my scale, insisting on placing the lobster in a tall Home Depot plaster type of heavy bucket, and even with that extra weight, the scale confirmed 2.1 LB!!!!!!!! Unhappy with their demonstration, they plopped the lobster sprawling it out onto my scale, but the weight was even less!!!!!! Bought a 7.25 pound lobster for my husbands 60th birthday. The meat only weighed 14.9 oz . Not even a pound! Called Shyers to complain and they said sorry and hung up. Didn't even try to make it right. I read that if the lobster is left in the tank and not fed it will live off itself and slowly starve itself. This place primarily serves locals who want to buy uncooked fresh or frozen seafood and prepare it at home. It is basically a warehouse where they sell lobsters and other seafood to other establishments. However, for those who are traveling and want authentic Maine lobster they are more than happy to cook lobster for you and crack it so you can eat it immediately. They do not sell ready to eat sides or have tables or butter however. The lobster was incredibly fresh and fairly reasonable. From 1.5-3 pounds a hard shell lobster was $11 per pound and above 3 pounds was $9 per pound. We got two 2 pounders which was enough to get a good taste of lobster and be filling if you aren't starving. read more

Bought two 2.5 pound lobsters the day after Mother's Day. My wife doesn't like going out on Mother's Day so it was a belated treat. They were excellent, hard shell and chocked full of meat. Very good. Place is a little strange behind Cumberland Farms on 28 and looks more wholesale but my type of place. Can't comment on their other seafood and they may have a tough time competing with Market Basket since they stepped up their game. Bro recommended the Hannaford for seafood, which I scoffed at, and found Shyer's online. Shyer's had giant tanks of lobsters, every size to choose from. It was like being at the aquarium. We bought 4, plus a few dozen Blue Point oysters. I didn't know much about buying lobsters, and the staff was very nice and patient with our questions. The oysters were very fresh and delicious. The lobsters were good too, but what do I know? Anyway, everyone loved them. There was also a good selection of shrimp, scallops, fish, etc., which looked fresh and good but I didn't try them this time. We were looking for a local seafood market and then we found this one on the news paper. I liked the service and mussels (4 lbs) and rock crabs (10) that we ordered. However, some of the crabs were small and one of them had only one claw. Some places would sell you the small crabs and one clawer for cheaper price, but it didn't happen here. We purchased 4 two pound hard shell lobsters paying hard shell price (11.99). I don't recall the soft shell price but it was significantly less. When we cooked the lobsters we found that only 1 was actually a hard shell. The others were soft shell (MUCH less meat). After my experience this past weekend I will never return. I wanted a certain size lobster and out she came with one almost twice the size, asking me "do you want it or not?" The last time I went there I was overcharged so when the price didn't jive with what I was told I would be charged and I asked for an explanation, the lobster was literally thrown down on the counter and the clerk walked off. Was looking for a fish market, to buy fresh fish for my s-i-l and me for dinner while visiting. Their home is in Derry and I researched using yelp, found this place in Salem. Kind of hard to find, missed it the first go around, but found it in the back lot of 380 S. Broadway. Nice clean, environment, friendly people, lots of lobsters, and many frozen items, We went to get fresh haddock, we were assured it came in today and we bought at a good price plus two frozen stuffed clams. Best stuffed clams i have had in a long time. The haddock, was fresh--how do i know--no odor when i smelled it. No fishy odor when i cooked it, and a delicate nice light flavor when tasted.
