I got a delicious scone from one place and some nice purple beans and green beans from another. Then got some fruit from a local farm but it was over ripe and they put some bad fruit on the bottom. There were at least a dozen food stalls selling anything from home baked bread, cookies, donuts, Mexican food, and Asian. There were stalls selling arts and crafts which are unique to Orca's. We picked up some lunch and enjoyed as the local band sweet music on the stage. A few folks and their kids got off the ground and started dancing. What a scene, as if it's out of a movie scene. It was truly magical.

Orcas has a long and rich agricultural history and I've seen plenty of farms and roadside farm stands that stood vacant in Decemeber. I was stoked for summer. Cue COVID.... Well, I'm happy to report that the market was still happening. I'm glad they didn't throw in the towel on it, though from what I'm told it was vastly different this year. Oh, you can imagine that in previous years there wasn't a mandatory handwashing station at the entrance. And I imagine there weren't dots on the ground to indicate where you should wait in order to approach each booth one party at a time. But more importantly, I'm told that the market, even though it's small and mighty in its biggest years, was only very teeny this year. There were probably 7-8 booths there, and that made for a quick visit. Still, we bought some flowers at one booth, and a bar of locally made soap at another, so we did our best to support the vendors who are making an effort despite the restrictions. I have nothing but love for a farmers market, and nothing but admiration for the participants. Though we were only here for a little bit, I'm glad we made it.

Aside from great people, you will find produce, hand-crafts, meals, baked goods, coffee, Kombucha and more that I have probably overlooked. What you won't find is dogs. Sadly, dogs are not allowed. Even nice ones. But now let's talk about goats. Get this: The market opens every year in April (I think) with a goat parade!!!!!!!!! Mind blown. A goat parade? Yes! Goats marching to music! I LOVE GOATS! Okay beyond my obsession with goats, here is some useful info: The market is currently twice a week. Wednesday is mostly food. Saturday is food, art, and the works.

They had social distancing in effect. Had amazing treats there for breakfast. Someone was selling pizza but it was 10 am so we passed on that. The variety of things being sold was varied. Besides fruits and vegetables, vendors were also selling masks, jewelry, art, honey, shells, lavender, crafts and flowers. Downside is that the vendors weren't required to wear masks, so some didn't have them.

There is a good mix of fresh produce and small business/crafts/artists with their wares for sale. Everyone was really nice and it felt like a welcoming community. It was a nice open air space that had ample room to space yourself away from others. In stark contrast to the more crowded and darker recessed Farmers Market in Port Angeles this one was airy and had more room for various vendors to set up within. It is ADA accessible and wheelchair friendly - something you may only otherwise appreciate when you are incapacitated!
