I have been going to Siam Pasta for over 20 years. It has gone through some changes over the years, however I notice an improvement over all. They do not skimp on the fresh crunchy vegetables in each entree and when I eat there i actually feel good afterwards, no salt/grease hangover. The service is very kind, I've taken my kids there several times and the waitresses are always sweet and bring out kid safe cups. My kids love the pad woonsen and any of the dumplings. I love the embroidered tapestries on the wall and the peaceful atmosphere. We love so many dishes there, especially the ginger chicken, rama chicken, spicy crazy noodles, the beef salad, and oh my gosh the baby egg rolls are my favorite. When you get tofu instead of meat they also do it very well, crispy but not greasy. I hope they stay open forever. read more

I had a taste for pad Thai so I walked to the restaurant to have a sit down meal. When I walked in and asked for a table, the lady said that they weren't accepting dine in patrons because "the electricity was about to be shut off". She suggested I order something to go. My thoughts were if the electricity was going to be turned off "at any moment" then how do I know that my food will be able to be cooked? I had walked there and didn't want my food to get cold walking back home. Plus I wanted the ambiance of sitting in a restaurant. This is the OG spot in Roger's Park for thai food. I have been a loyal customer since I was in grade school so over 10+ years. I was obsessed with their food since like the 6th grade. And the best part... it's less than a 5 minute walk from my house. Their pad thai and pad see eiw are impeccable! It's a little on the oily side, but what thai food isn't? I haven't had a single issue with this place and is definitely my favorite. I always crave their crab ragoons! They come in a unique shape that I don't see anywhere else and they are ALWAYS crispy and perfectly made. I don't think I will ever stop coming here. I really plan on trying other stuff from their menu because I am guilty of always getting my usual. I love the feel of the restaurant. It hasn't changed much over the years. However, I value its authenticity. There is always plenty of seating inside as well. I live for their lunch specials because I spent only $10 on my meal and you get an entree with an appetizer. This was my favorite thai restaurant growing up. No matter what you ordered the food was always amazing and never too expensive. Last year the owners sold to a Japanese couple and now food is no longer vegetarian. Fish oil is used for all dishes including the vegetable dishes and there is no vegetable oil substitute available. Huge loss for the vegetarian community of Rogers Park, West Ridge and Evanston. The food is also tripled in price. Its like they just use the name and facade as a friendly familiar costume to get you inside but the restaurant is completely different now. BRAVO. I have been coming to Siam Pasta long before they expanded into the two storefronts they now occupy. Recently the flavor has some added zing (not too much) and they are very customer focused. My Roasted Duck Curry was amazing the other night and I had the pleasure of their sushi today. On top of the flavor and an excellent coldness to the sushi (mandatory in my book) Chris did an excellent job on presentation. While my one visit to the dining room wasn't much to write home about, Siam Pasta has become a go-to delivery spot for us. Once when a friend was visiting from out of town, we ordered from here because my husband really enjoys their various catfish dishes, usually curries, and he recommended one to her, and whichever she ordered did not disappoint. Hubs likes to get curries, often green and often beef. We also often share the chicken satay appetizer. Lately I have been eating very low fat, and the basil chicken offers more than adequate flavor (especially for a menu item found in the diet section of a menu). We live fairly close, but delivery is always fast and the food arrives hot. read more

Crab Lagoon were 6 tiny little pieces and sauce ($5.95) The Duck Curry was $14 and very small portion compared to most other Thai restaurants. The Crazy noodles was also small and about $12 if I remember correctly. We spent $40 after including a $5 tip for the driver, and were still hungry after we ate. First the prices have risen astronomically. My favorite appetizer Shrimp in a blanket was clearly frozen when it was cooked and it was completely undercooked. The shrimp inside the crispy wrapper was grey, looked raw and tasted like a walk-in. The chicken Pad Thai was unseasoned and completely tasteless. I ate one bite of each dish from this horrible overpriced meal and threw the rest in the bin. To add insult to injury when I picked up my food the place was cluttered and filthy. Siam Pasta has been around about 10 years or so. Before it, there was a little dive-y dinner called the Coffee Pot w/a really friend, lil old woman serving bad eggs and excellent java. Wonder whatever happened to her. . . ? Henny way, Siam Pasta opened at half it's current size and used to serve twice the amount of food per entre. Additionally, the quality of the chicken used to be a bit better and they used to use a higher end type of mushroom in the fabulous Tom Yum soup. All that said, the food continues to be wonderful. The crazy noodles, pepper steak, crab rangoon and thai custard (sometime like flan, but so much better) are wonderful. One can easily eat for $10-$15 dollars a piece. The service has always been good. Fast, relatively friendly, etc. Another excellent point - they really know how to package the food for delivery. Always sent with good napkins and little pieces of cardboard separating the foods. Very fine work. A tip when dining in, upon leaving, ask for a coveted 'to go' menu. There's a cut out coupon on the back you can use the next time you go in for 1/2 off a 2nd entre. I ask every time -- I find the cashier's level of irritation most amusing. I've ordered from here a handful of times over the years, and I have to say the quality has gone down. Ordered delivery on a Monday at 1:45. Order was late and only lukewarm. Crab rangoon was meh, pretty flavorless. Shrimp dumplings came with a garlic soy sauce that had about 3 tablespoons of sugar in it-way too sweet for me. Pad thai was ok. I asked for extra lime wedges and got 2 wedges. While technically they did give me extra, usually at other restaurants I receive 3 or 4 without having to ask for a specific amount. Had to get my concentrated lime juice from out of the fridge and use that instead (not as good, but works in a pinch). Granted, I've only have take out and delivery from here, but there are better places. Spend your money at Cozy Noodle, Indie, or Hello instead. We sampled a lot so I'll tell you about each. Tasters: 1 ) Crab Langoon - WOW! Delicious! Fluffy with actual crab flavor. 2 ) Tod Mun (Fish Cakes) - Texture wasn't fabulous but the flavor was. Served with cucumber and a spicy sauce which kicked it up perfectly. Soup: 1 ) Tom Yum - Nice, light, a few shrimp, and tons of mushrooms. Curry Bowl: 1 ) Mussaman - curry with potatoes, coconut milk, peanuts and chicken. DISGUSTING. Had a chemical taste to it. Potatoes were crunchy which the cook said was cooked right. BLECH! Specialties: 1 ) Spicy Catfish - FANTASTIC! Tons of green beans, eggplant, basil leaves with catfish that has a sauce similar to sweet'n'sour on it. We took a groupon and felt the waitress was a little rude with us because of it. Even when my friend sent back the Mussaman because of the potatoes and flavor she told us that it WAS good flavor.... maybe to your palate... It was kind of weird. Perhaps a cultural difference? I have purchased carry out twice here, and for the most part food is good. Normally I stick to standard dishes, and they do just fine with those. I recently tried the chive pancake, and it was not good at all. It tasted like ashtray. The soup that came with the entree was also lackluster. I was expecting perhaps a hot and sour soup or the like, but it was pretty much chicken broth. They offer a lunch special menu. You can place your carry out or delivery order online at their website. Great Ameri-Thai. I love the lime chicken, which is battered friend chicken tossed with a tangy lime sauce. The curries are almost all meat and don't have very complex flavor, but they are satisfying nonetheless. I wish there were more vegetables, but most Thai places have the opposite problem.
