This is definitely one of those small places that can be overlooked if you blink. It's in a strip mall with a closed convenience store and laundromat. That being said the parking lot was full had to circle the lot and luckily found on street parking within a block. The dining area is sparse with three tables. Really no decor at all. After looking over the huge menu I ordered two of their dinner plates one with beef chop suey and beef egg foo young. The dinner includes an egg roll, your choice of white, vegetable or chicken fried rice and soup or can soda. I went with chicken fried rice for both and hot and sour soup for one of the dinners. The hot and sour soup was over thickened with a faint sour taste. The egg foo young gravy was over thickened to the point where the gravy congealed. I like to pour the gravy over my rice. The chicken fried rice was okay not stellar. Small pieces of chicken and plenty of rice. I love the chop suey with plenty of vegetables. I love the price, the portion sizes but the food is just okay overall. read more

OKAY SO the food is WAY better now than it has been in the past. I've been eating here since I was a kid so I have ordered from here for the last 20ish years, through all the twists and turns of what I think was a change in ownership. I got the beef udon, beef & broccoli, chicken kow, the curry chicken and veggie egg rolls. The veggies and meat are all so fresh! The sauce is just enough to cover each piece of food; not pooling! The egg rolls are the best I have ever had: crispy, chewy and flavorful. The salt level of everything was low and perfect, especially with all the rice that was provided with each dish. We got smalls of all the dishes listed and it was enough for three people. The staff are very chill, straight to the point. When we came to pick up the food, they were busy and still got us in and out in under 5 mins! It was ready when they said it would be. We ordered at about 6:30pm and got the food at 7:10pm. As of this point, I am done with China Ling I really like their food and their service, but they are very disengaged with customers. For example, when I asked if I could get noodles with my order instead of rice, the lady said no, even though I was willing to pay for it. She insisted that I couldn't order a side of noodles, and I decided that rather than argue with her about it, I would just take my business elsewhere. I felt disappointed because I believe that if a customer requests something and it can be accommodated, it should be done, especially if I'm willing to pay for it. I wasn't asking for anything for free. But since she wouldn't make it happen, I told her that they had just lost a customer. I won't be going back to China Ling as they have a poor customer service record. read more

after about five years, I decided to try again to see if anything has changed. It's gotten worse. The food quality is bad. Beware ordering anything called orange because it doesn't taste like orange. It taste more like a barbecue. And what they sell you as dumplings and when you talk to about the dumplings, they say no they are potstickers. They are not instead of giving you 12 give you eight and column potstickers because you're supposed to get eight potstickers. I am never going there again. The place is horrible. read more

When having a case of the Mondays, I opted to grab some Chinese takeout - the last thing I wanted to do when getting back home is slave in the kitchen. Stopped in China Ling & while the decor wasn't much, I was hoping the food would be better. Service was speedy & my food was ready in under 15 minutes. I ordered sesame chicken, pork fried rice, & egg rolls. Egg rolls were standard fare, bbq pork fried rice was quite good - even though the container was small, they over filled it nicely. Just the right flavor of sweet & salty that's familiar with bbq pork. I wish the sesame chicken was good, but sadly this is where the meal went south. There was too much breading & the chicken (when I did bite into some) was dry, & hard. Almost as if it had been re-fried. The sauce was good & I appreciated the broccoli that came with. This is a hole in the wall that my husband found on Western, since he didn't care for my preferred place up the street. (No names!) He has brought carry out home from here many times and each time, we enjoy it. We particularly like their chicken with Chinese brocolli, Mongolian beef, special fried rice, and crab Rangoon and egg rolls. Very good stuff! I came here because it happened to be the closest restaurant near my friend's apartment that served Chinese. I was excited to try a new place since I usually go to the same places in the suburbs where I grew up. The cashiers were very nice to me and my food was packed perfectly. I got the sesame chicken with egg drop soup and egg rolls. My friend got another dish, but I didn't try it so I can't review it here. He said it was great though! Reasonably price too, The lomein is the best I've had in Chi-town... The restaurant is not much to look at but don't let that detour you from experiencing a great Chinese meal. read more

Another Chinese take-out found in a lesser than lovely, strip mall. The parking spaces aren't properly spaced, so often your car doors could be closer to the next car than you'd like. The food is grossly overrated in these reviews. Grossly. As in, soon after getting my fill of food, I threw the rest away. This is low grade Chinese take-out. Some may argue, "Jacob, for $6 dollars what do you expect?" Try Kam Kong Cafe in North Park, their lunch special is $7 and you can taste the difference. Fresh food and freshly made eggrolls. (Shit, they even make their own sweet and sour sauce, for the egg rolls!) I've said this in another review of another Chinese take-out place; but something I remember sensing on the car ride home with their take-out. A sweet ingredient used in the preparation. Maybe hoisin?, is of a low grade quality. Every time I've smelled that chemical-smelling-kind-of-smell, I've usually hated the food. Ding, ding, ding! Per their menu it states "ONLY THE BEST", "we use only the finest ingredients..From garden fresh vegetables and tofu to high quality chicken." It goes on to mention that their beef is USDA flank steak and the seafood is a "sure delight." The menu continues with saying it's healthy, low in fat, cholesterol and they cook with 100% corn oil. If the ingredients they started out with were fresh, they have to fire their cooks because these guys are overcooking the hell out of it. Let's discuss the lunch special. I asked that they make everything spicy, including the rice. I wouldn't mind an up-charge. (I was ordering a couple lunch specials) They said, they would do it, no problem. The fried rice was dry and the chicken pieces in it were grossly overcooked. (I've been told, that dryness can be helped easily. One need only tell the counter-person to hydrate the rice a little better. Or say, "make it fresh", they aren't really going to make it fresh, but they will add a bit more water to the steamer to present the rice in a nicer fashion.) Commonly; at most fast food Chinese take-out spots, foods are made in advance, either that day or in worst cases, a few days ahead. Especially large quantities of the fried rice and soups. Oh boy.. let me tell you about their hot and sour soup. It was a "goopy" mess. The texture of it, was grotesque. I couldn't stomach eating it. As if it were made with fat and oil, the soup had congealed into a blob. (For rockstar hot and sour soup, try Kam Kong Cafe in North Park. Soups are made fresh!) What else? I got the General Tso's chicken which I thought was overcooked and served in a goopy (yes, I said it again), thick sauce. The egg rolls tasted like that variety that's purchased in bulk. One of my lunch mate's commented that it tasted "medicine-y." None of us were satisfied with the food. It was just, OKAY. Honestly, I hated it. I'd also ordered some potstickers for sharing and those were the pits as well. The texture of the shell was like plastic and thick. The potsticker had lost it's spongey-feel. I dunno, I feel as though some of this food was made a few days in advance and reheated. If we listened to other reviews which stated that this is the "best" of Rogers Park, I'd say y'all need to get to another neighborhood and try something a hell of a lot better. This is THE place to get HOMEMADE potstickers. They service Cantonese Shrimp and Egg scramble too!!! And fish filet with ginger and scallions. Fried banana or mushrooms too. ($5.95/order) as a side dish! Random but Excellent. Try pairing either of these with fried rice, TRUST me, you won't forget it!!!! They sell smoothies too. With or without tapioca boba. The food is good. I have been here few times only. Only tried the Mongolian Beef. Yes, every time i went i got the same thing. Would give them a higher rating, but on two different occasions I had some major attitude from the woman behind the counter. First incident she ignored me, i repeated my order 3 times and left. I was also the only person in the whole place. I am stupid enough to come back again since it is so close to my house. Same thing happened, only this time it was my friend trying to place the order. I must admit in between those 2 incidents i received normal service from other worker. Maybe there is something I'm missing here. For China Ling - here's what I found in this very typical Chinese-American establishment: Get the order to-go. Seats and parking are difficult. Or, get delivery. Order a vegetarian meal (no fear of over/under cooked meat that way) - they have veggie egg rolls and tofu options. Order something difficult to mess up: like fried rice and an egg roll. The spicy string beans (vegetarian) were decent - and that dish is difficult to serve if it isn't fresh. The fried rice was definitely over-cooked, though that's a dish you can over cook without much concern. I ate it, I didn't get sick the day of or the next day, and the price and service were good. I'd order again, though really only because it's close and sometimes you just can't pass up your craving for something familiar in the genre. read more

I ordered the sweet and sour combination, crab rangoon, hot garlic chicken dinner special and seafood soup (note that I had company and was NOT eating all this alone lol). The sweet and sour combo was okay, nothing special. I bit into the crab rangoon and noticed it was yellow! I called the place to ask why and they add curry to it... So heads up! We live close to Great Beijing in Lincolnwood and thats our usual, but we decided to try something new. We chose this place only from the yelp reviews. Yelp I want my money back!! Egg rolls were dry. Crab rangoon was not good at all. Mongolian Beef had no flavor at all but the beef was tender. Sesame Chicken was also dry and tasteless. Egg drop soup should be called Water Drop soup. One overly made up, long-term female employee at the counter often prefers talking on her cell phone to taking customer orders.
